It was a pain to upgrade to 10.5.3 but I'm not having any problems with it after a clean install. What are other users encountering?

Exactly the same here. I tried an upgrade and it burped.

Did a clean install, updated everything Apple, then installed other software. Updated again and since then.

Stable. Fast. Better than XP.

The cost of dotMac...worth every penny, for me.

At $99/year I actually save $20 per year just by hosting one website through dotmac.

I have 4 websites that are hosted by my ISP. The first website costs me $15/month and each additional site costs $10/month in hosting fees. By moving just one of those sites to dotMac I no longer pay my ISP $120/year to host that site and Domain name, thus the $20 per year in savings.

That essentially means that all other dotmac services are free for me.

That's reason #1 of why DotMac is a great value for me.

Goody. Thanks :)

I hope with 10.5.4 that Apple fix the serious bug with Time Machine / Time Capsule that was introduced in 10.5.3.

At present, Time Machine is unable to perform backups to Time Capsule, and due to resetting Time Capsule to try and fix the problem, the wireless network is now the default and permanently unsecure.

Because Airport Utility can't find Time Capsule, I can't change the network settings to be secure (WPA2) or stop broadcasting my SSID.

I have had my subscription for about 3 or 4 years and it has been worth it for me just to synch up my cal and address book on a few computers and have online backup of those if I am out of the office (even though I barely use that feature) the new features with the iPhone will be nice and make my next years upgrade a definate.

What app do you use? I have basically stopped using a ical, but would really enjoy a better application.

It's omniplan.

From here:

http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniplan/

It's a great and very, very powerful app. I really enjoy their products. Hell, they have the only web-browser I have ever bought. That says a lot (to me) about how good their products are, considering there are free out there. Oh, and I also use their Omnioutliner which is a great "to-do"-thingymajig.
Anyway, there's a demo, so you get to try it before buying it, as it's quite an outlay, to be honest. Just keep in mind it's much more than a calender.

thanks, i'll check it out. It does seem a bit pricy, but it would be nice to have a calendar program again. This might be a silly question, but will there be any way to sync this calendar with the iphone?

I honestly don't know, as I never wanted an iPhone, nor have any intention to buy one. But if you have an iphone now couldn't you test it with the demo?

Edit: While doing a search for this feature, it turns out that Omnioutliner has had a name-change and is now called Omnifocus. As luck would have it, this new app seem to be able to do what you want. Hell, it even syncs back and forth between iCal.

Here's omnigroups blog about it:

And here's the product itself:

I hope you find something.

No issues at all. I wonder if I just don't push my system hard enough to find problems or am just extremely inattentive - but I have *never* had a problem with an OS X update (from 10.4.3 to 10.5.3). I always feel amused by the "10.x.x Killed My Mac" threads but I guess I've just been very lucky so far. Touch wood. :)

Everybody I know (outside of this site) is also very "lucky" :D

Man, I sure hope so. I've used the new Safari versions on Windows and my Mac and the performance is JUST AWFUL!

Sometimes pages are slow to load, sometimes the pages won't load at all, startup times are abysmal. I'd take any improvement.

Yes, my install of Leopard was a "clean" install.

However, using the new Safari on 10.4.11 is still awesome. Go figure...

Well older internet plugins (especially older RealPlayer and DiVX plugins) in /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ play real havoc with Safari. Plus if you bleeding edge Safari go with the daily WebKit nightly.

Actually, they are two different products. OmniOutliner is still an existing product.

Ah, okay, I guess that's why I didn't get a "try this new beta" in omnioutliner. I guess I got confused when I went to their website and there was an "upgrade price" for Outliner-users.
Thanks for the correction. :)

Anyone know if this update might fix the problems with Adobe CS3 ? Wanna buy a mac laptop and CS3 but am wondering if I have to wait for CS4 or some crap ok thx...

Anyone know if this update might fix the problems with Adobe CS3 ? ...

In my dreams ;) I read on an Adobe blog that they expect Apple to fix the problem in 10.5.5. I can't find the link right now but the topic is covered on Adobe's support forums at length.

I hope they fix the issues they caused in 10.5.3 with FF3. Its preventing me from upgrading. Yes, I know there is a work around but I am not able to recompile FF3.

FF3 RC3 has a fix in, and it is already available for download.

hopefully it´ll fix the fans always at 6k rpm issue i´ve had with 10.5.3!
PLEEEEEEASE :apple:!

6.000! Sheesh, that's ridiculously fast!
If my computer had that speed, I'd begin wondering if it was properly cooled with "cooling paste" (no idea, what's it called in english).

Did it begin doing that just after the 10.5.3-update or did it slowly evolve after the update?

6K. I hate when mine goes to 3 :(

reset the SMC. if it doesn't work, try the apple hardware test shipped with your computer.
i had the same problem. it was a faultly motherboard, had it changed by Applecare (along with the screen and the topcase, but that's another story)

Note to Microsoft Ad execs: Please contact me. I'll be happy to provide a consumer quote about how crappy Leopard is, and how I'm downgrading to Tiger. You can use it for free in a "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" ad.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky is the agency that won Microsoft's $300 million account. They have been charged with making Microsoft cool. No small feat. New campaign slated to begin in July.

Very interesting read.
