What? We are ready on 10.5.5? Doesn't time fly by so fast? Does it feel like Leopard was released a month ago?

Or is it just me?

I heard that time speeds up faster or seems to go by faster as we move closer to the year 2012.

Consider yourself lucky. When Tiger was released I reported that the option in International preferences for customising number formats disappeared. They closed the bug as "third-party to resolve"

I don't know why but I find that extremely amusing. I just picture the guy receiving the bug reports as some slacker with a baseball cap on backward sitting at some cluttered desk in a dark and run-down part of Apple reading your report and saying, "We ain't got time for that crap. Someone else can do it."

Updates are good. I just hope they continue with this level of support even after snow leopard is released.

Hey so im new to a mac and i have leopard and i think its great and really dont care much about rumors of snow leopard but the only think is if its so rushed and lets just say it has bugs can my macbook be switched to snow leopard if its a better OS?

thanks

Sure...as long as you buy it. The next release will probably come with a price tag of about $129/USD. That's what all the other Major releases cost. Then you'll get all the 10.6.x updates free.

Another massive patch?

Well, I guess I can collect my bets that Leopard was the buggiest and most pre-maturely shipped version of OS X.

Now, let's hope the server version is finally usable. At this point, the client version is pretty good, and this patch will most likely make it excellent. The server version still is not commercial quality.

I'm a big fan of Apple, and I hope these dark ages of quality---bugs, heat, screens, fit and finish--are coming to an end.

With all of the embarrassment of the iPhone and mobileme launch, I hope with all of my heart that the leaders of Apple are taking this quality slide seriously and are now focused on building Apple into a company which not only innovates, but can deliver high quality products.

They'd better fix Mail - it is still rather buggy. They did fix the failure to search full-text messages in spotlight in 10.5.4 update, but there is still no new mail sound in secondary accounts and there are still bugs in applying rules to messages. Nothing back-breaking but still annoying.

Oh, and iTunes 7.7.1 introduced a crop of new bugs, it looks like.

ok thanks but i just had this thought what if apple is trying to rush through leopard and not really do much or really try with it and send out snow leopard as just a more sturdy leopard nothing new or anything just for an extra say 129 I know for one I would be very annoyed with it

I'm tempted to re-submit it now, just to see what happens

Yeah, if Snow Leopard is going to sell for $129, several people are going to complain about Snow Leopard's lack of new features, but the rumors that have been floating around about Snow Leopard give reason to believe that it will improve stability, speed, and performance. Many of us pay mega $$$ to upgrade our hardware to get some speed and performance boost, but an unconfirmed $129 for a speed boost via new software is okay for me. Just another way to look at it.

I think you may be slightly confused. This rumor is regarding the next version of 10.5 Leopard, namely 10.5.5. Snow Leopard is a brand new OS for lack of a better term, 10.6, which will not be released by Apple until next year. This rumor is referring to the different builds being tested and released by Apple for 10.5.

If you come from a Windows background, think of this as Service Pack, not a new OS.

I agree about Mail being a little buggy which is why I use Thunderbird.

yeah, quality of the OS is declining, quality of the hardware is declining . . . as apple becomes more mainstream and has to produce more, quality is being sacrificed.

Tell me about it. My MBP went in today... AGAIN! This is my third MBP in two years, because they keep replacing them due to multiple issues. I treat my computer like my baby, so it's not like I'm abusing it. I've had plenty of Windows computers that I haven't had any problems with.

When I walked into the DHL drop off, there was another guy there dropping of a box exactly like mine. He looked at me, smiled, and said, "Apple?" I said yes, and he said, "this is all part of the Apple user experience."

The guy behind the counter told me that they have A TON of Apple laptops going in for repair every week, and I know it's true because every time I've had to go send my laptop in, I see some other Apple laptop boxes in the back.

It is sad.

I've always wondered about that. Thanks for the info.

BTW, any news on new features or do those only come out with 10.X (New OS) releases?

Just big releases (10.4, 10.5, 10.6)

Tiger (10.4) and Leopard (10.5) saw a lot of new features (spaces, dashboard, etc). 10.6 Snowleopard, being released next june or so, won't see as many awesome "features" but should be incredibly stable, sleek and lightweight. Also, (highly unprobable) there have been rumors that it will be available for PCs.

But no, no new features this time around.

I really want to use Thunderbird, especially with the ability to write and format html emails easily, but for christ's sake, you can't even use Apple Contacts.

Hopefully we will see that in version 3. Anyone know when that is?

I am beginning to think the same thing.

SJ gives a faked demo of future features, everyone oohs and aahs about how great OS X is, no one can wait to buy the next version, however reality is a completely different experience.

I have had nothing but trouble with Apple products lately. TM takes so long to backup that I have to terminate it because at the current backup rate it calculates out to 27 days to backup 250 GB.

Back to my mac works correctly every other second Tuesday of the month.

Sync completely hoses my mail boxes and contacts.

MobileMe only connects when it feels like it.

My brand new 1 TB time capsule runs so hot that it nearly sets fire to the desk it sets on.

My wireless mighty mouse seems to get a mind of it's own when wireless backups are running or I plug certain devices into the USB port.

iPhone consistently crashes.

I get more help from discussion groups than I do from the Apple "Genius" at my nearest Applestore (224) miles away.

WHAT HAPPENED TO APPLE?

I remember when they actually built reliable products, that just worked.
