I'm not sure what's happening at Apple with OS development (perhaps they're focusing on the iPhone too much).

Yes, they are.

Leopard and Leopard service pack one are turning into a real Vista moment. Customers are really getting fed up. I'm getting tired of dealing with it. "I thought this computer would just work".The Apple store up the street has a three week wait for a genius, so folks walk in and we take care of them right away and we're the sales staff.

All the hardware & OS issues of the last couple of years are going to come back to haunt Apple.

i hope they fix issues with ctrl zoom. Thats the only issue in SL that really bothers me.

Also, is anyone else experiencing SLOWER than Leopard sleep and shut down times? Sometimes I have to click on sleep 2X before it responds and even then it can take 15 - 30 seconds.

Wow. This sounds like a Windows Vista forum. I think Apple needs to stop running those "funny" ads.

I have a printer that is newer than my iMac and since I installed SL, it won't work at all. I can get a test page to print and that's all. Not exactly useful. Yep, tried all the stuff on their support site, checked with HP (I have a LaserJet P1505 - not exactly an old printer) for new drivers, nothing.
Come on, Apple how could you have released such a beta OS with so many obvious errors? Surely these things were tested?:(

Rich

Admittedly, for someone who's realised the wisdom of not upgrading until 10.x.7 or thereabouts, it's been fun reading all the bugs people have been getting.

Now hear this. A real reason why Apple rushed Snow Leopard out so soon is that, in the following months, SL is going to get better and more refined so that when Windows 7 comes out, SL will have had a few point updates to make it relatively stable. Hence SL will be in a more refined state, whereas Windows 7 will be at the start of its public refinement curve. That will allow SL to be seen in the better light compared to Windows 7.

Whereas if SL had come out at the same time as Windows 7, SL's initial bugginess would make it seem on par with Windows 7's initial bugginess.

Folks, that's why Apple brought out SL early -- so that you guys could beta test it.

And for the millions of us experiencing no bugs at all in Snow Leopard... a characteristic week of silence.

As you were.

In Leopard, if you were not using searches in the SEARCH FOR section of the sidebar, the SEARCH FOR label would not vanish. Has this bug been fixed with Snow Leopard? If not, add that to the list. Some may argue that it isn't a bug, but I have to ask, how the heck is it a feature? Since I never use it, I'd like to not see it.

My computer is running great! I couldn't be happier with Snow Leopard. I love it. Works like a dream.

I noticed this too; what annoys me more is how slow the grey progressbar is on the boot screen.

I had no idea so many people were having issues with 10.6.

I haven't had a single issue since upgrading to 10.6. I'm using a 2.16 GHz, 15" MacBook Pro.

Are you all sure it's not just YOUR system? Did you try a clean install to make sure it really is a problem with 10.6?

I upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6, and everything works fine. In fact, after a full system defrag (yes, Macs can get heavily fragmented), I cut about 40 seconds off my boot time and so now the system is running better than it did just a few weeks ago.

I see that HP released this driver driver on August 15, which I believe was after SL went GM. However no mention of compatibility with 10.6. I have the HP Photosmart Premium, and HP did update the driver to be compatible with SL. Looks like it's HP's holdup, not Apple's.

Wirelessly posted (HTC_Touch_Pro_T7272 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11))

i think its funny how all of you complain about bugs...but not a single one of you are experiencing the same bug as another.

I wonder how many of these problems are a direct result of Snow Leopard, or the result of 3rd party software developers not having their code ready for the new OS?

Not according to Apple themselves.....http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375?viewlocale=en_US

Well to be fair - they do say you can get fragmentation but they suggestion simply reinstalling everything (oh that's efficient). Out of curiosity what tool are you using to defrag your OSX drive? I'm convinced I need to do some sort of optimisation (partly because my drive is very full and thus prone to fragmentation) but do not want to back everything up and reinstall if I can avoid it.

I hope they keep improving Safari. I just had Safari crash (all together, not plugin) twice in a row while trying to reply to a Facebook message. (No other tabs open) Pretty pathetic.. blah!

I've noticed that Facebook and Safari on Snow Leopard don't play very well together. I've had multiple crashes while trying to upload pics, etc.

Just tried it, 2-3 seconds, one click. Must be some process running in the background that's preventing your machine from sleeping. I had Safari, Mail, HP Device Manager, ScanSnap Manager, Boinc, Calculator, Pixelmator and my printer device running when I tested.

I have found the console to be incredibly useful in diagnosing incompatibilities. I had software installed that I had forgotten about that was not SL compatible. The console showed that each application was running a process every 5 seconds (VM Ware and Little Snitch). This killed my mac's performance. Uninstalled both, and the problem was solved.

Although it's far away from current hubbubs and what nots, and chances are we might not even GET to see this with how things are evolving, but I cannot help trying to picture how Mac OS 11 will look like and with all the troubles we've had now, how we'll moan about the troubles then.

For an OS that was launched on the basis of "The Most Stable OS in the history", I think Snow Leopard is a bit of a lie.

We've all done the updates, most of us on a fresh new HDD and somehow, the same computers, same model, same build, clean install STILL produces different anomalies when it comes to errors and bugs, right out of the box.

I get periodically a constant slowdown, beach ball spinning and the hard disk spinning out of control. All the while I can't do a damn thing with the OS, it's stalling and the beach ball is here more often than in Leopard.

What causes this is beyond me.

Anyway, I agree, since 14th of August this OS is in high demand of a new update.

This was NOT a finished product. Somethings just work.
:(

What release of Subversion is included in 10.6.1 for server?

The initial release of Snow Leopard Server contains Subversion release 1.6.2. The svnsync for that release of Subversion contains a bug when syncing with a respository that has log messages with the 2 character end of line contained within. There is a newer release 1.6.5 that is out that does not have the bug.

Can someone check to see if the 10.6.1 update for Snow Leopard Server contains an update to Subversion?

I'm pretty disappointed in the fixes included in 10.6.1, but maybe the issues that I sent Apple feedback about (VPN, Apple Remote, wireless) will be addressed in 10.6.2.

This has been fixed in Snow Leopard. I was surprised to see that when I first installed it.

Even the initial beta release of W7 was very stable. W7 has been beta tested for months and MS didn't charge anybody for it.
How is releasing a buggy operating system early going to help it to be seen in a better light? I think your theory is ridiculous, OSX is supposed to "Just Work" and right now it's just not for everybody. Apple should take a look at releasing free public beta's like MS if they want to use costumers as guinea pigs.

My iMac wakes up in about a second, shuts down in about 2-3 seconds and starts up fairly fast. No complaints at all with Snow Leopard, except Airport sometimes not working.

There is a major difference between actual documented bugs with the OS, and problems that YOU are having. Random things will always happen with an OS upgrade, and it doesn't matter if "it was working fine before". That's actually what happens when something breaks or something goes wrong. It works one minutes, then stops working another. Otherwise, you never noticed it before.

It's NOT Apple's fault if a developer was too lazy to upgrade their product ahead of time. Afterall that's why they have the "developer seed".

If you are having problems, then do us all a favor and backup your data and perform an erase and install. Then, just as with my sig, toast up some pop-tarts and spread a little bit of peanut butter on them (you have to hurry, it's tough to spread warm peanut butter) and sit down with a big glass of cold milk and relax. Don't panic, everything is A-OK! :)
