Although it's far away from current hubbubs and what nots, and chances are we might not even GET to see this with how things are evolving, but I cannot help trying to picture how Mac OS 11 will look like and with all the troubles we've had now, how we'll moan about the troubles then.
For an OS that was launched on the basis of "The Most Stable OS in the history", I think Snow Leopard is a bit of a lie.
We've all done the updates, most of us on a fresh new HDD and somehow, the same computers, same model, same build, clean install STILL produces different anomalies when it comes to errors and bugs, right out of the box.
I get periodically a constant slowdown, beach ball spinning and the hard disk spinning out of control. All the while I can't do a damn thing with the OS, it's stalling and the beach ball is here more often than in Leopard.
What causes this is beyond me.
Anyway, I agree, since 14th of August this OS is in high demand of a new update.
This was NOT a finished product. Somethings just work.

I'll take the "half full" approach: There are plenty of people who have the same machines, same installs, and are having no problems at all. Generally, people are only vocal when there is a problem, but that doesn't mean that people are only having problems or that nothing is working.
Also, if you can take the same OS and run it on multiple machines that each have different problems the chances are greater that there is something on that machine that is causing the problem, whether an application/driver was on there in the first place or transferred/installed shortly after. Even the migration assistant can cause problems with a fresh install.
Thanks Issmit02, I am aware of that driver and have tried several times to install it with no luck. It goes through all the dialogue boxes just like it was installing, but, alas when I check the driver in System Profiler, it is still the old 1.0.6, in stead of the 1.0.7. Frustrating for me and apparently LOTS of others are having issues with printers.I see that HP released this driver driver on August 15, which I believe was after SL went GM. However no mention of compatibility with 10.6. I have the HP Photosmart Premium, and HP did update the driver to be compatible with SL. Looks like it's HP's holdup, not Apple's.
I had no idea so many people were having issues with 10.6... Did you try a clean install to make sure it really is a problem with 10.6? I upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6, and everything works fine. In fact, after a full system defrag (yes, Macs can get heavily fragmented), I cut about 40 seconds off my boot time and so now the system is running better than it did just a few weeks ago.
How do you do a defrag on a mac?
Also, what is a "clean install"? I put in the snow leopard disk and followed the prompts to install - is a clean install something different? Thanks for your input.
And by the way - a cool change with SL is that when something crashes, it automatically reports the issue (after notifying you with a bunch of code stuff) instead of asking if you want to report it.

My computer is running great! I couldn't be happier with Snow Leopard. I love it. Works like a dream.
Sounds like you've got some major problems.. I've upgraded several systems of various types without experiencing any of the issues you've mentioned. Has your system been upgraded before (e.g. from Tiger to Leopard)? My recommendation to those of you out there still considering installing Snow Leopard... wait a bit longer until there have been several patches.
Maybe the issue is pizza smeared all over your laptop? j/kMy "WTF Apple, Please fix this List:"
1. Fans and heat on laptop. Especially when playing video in Safari
2. Safari gives the spinning pizza randomly when opening new tab or window.
3. Sound randomly becoming muffled.
I miss this greatly from Tiger. I guess they decided that the Show All should behave like a Finder window. And I still wish Spotlight's "Show All" was like that of 10.4 Tiger, where it actually divided up everything by it's kind (Folder, Document, etc.) instead of Leopard and now Snow Leopard's "Show All" which just displays the results all thrown together in a folder.
