Well you know how computing and components are evolving really fast.

The thing is you can't customize/change your component and they didn't update the Macbook Pros for a Year !!

I ended up switching back to an XPS that I needed for work because of their lateness.

Seriously?

What did the XPS have that the MacBook Pro doesn't? =O

This is a honest question

I really don't like the new exposé, if you have two windows instead of putting them side by side to view largely and keeping them a good size, it puts them in tiny little thumbnails stacked vertically leaving a huge amount of unused space on the screen while i have to squint to figure out which one i want, also, when you have more than about three windows open the are all the same size and usually go in the exact direction you don't expect it to go (like a window on the left will go to the right when in exposé) finally, they are all the same size, so my adium chat will be the same size as a safari window the size of my screen so its much harder to tell which window you want. expose actually slowed down my workflow quite a bit

also, it pushes the processer so much harder than leopard. my macbook battery went from 3-4 hours to 1-2 hours. It also increased my temps from 40-50c to 60-75 on even the 9400m card! I once tried to watch a hulu video with the 9600 enabled, it hovered at 80-85c with the fans at 6000 rpm! absolutely ridiculous. flash videos shoot the temps through the roof and it is actually less pleasant to use my macbook than my old crappy toshiba vista computer both heat and noise wise on snow leopard.

anyways, i just downgraded back to 10.5.8 and its much better, typing this message im at 40c (2000 fans) rather than 70c (3000 fans) with snow leopard. can anyone let me know if when 10.6.3 comes out if it fixes all the heat and exposé issues with macbook pros?

other than that i haven't had many other issues with sl, but until then i will wait to upgrade

wow. Works much better on my hack lol. Though you have a good point on the two window thing. Never noticed that because i have 24" screen but that would suck on a 13-15". Expose is pretty tough sometimes. Like it much better than leopards though.

Yes! It's like a dream come true! But if it doesn't fix my crashes, I'm going back to Leopard for good!

and what about MBP 5.1 blinking screen issue? in announcements there is nothing said.. fixing new iMac model and leaving one year users without any care looks unfare.

Okay, I have problems with people who state things like this. Snow Leopard runs amazingly for me. It's been a VERY solid upgrade so far and it's only going to get better. I don't understand why everyone has problems with it. What are you doing to your computer to make it run like that?

I love Snow Leopard. I admit it. It doesn't crash and it's wicked fast.

Note: Those have been my experiences, so don't bash me.

Absolutely the same for me; SL is FLAWLESS.

So much for those reports of Blu-Ray movie playback finally being delivered in 10.6... *annoyed*

Hopefully iTunes will finally go 64-bit?

Maybe Apple should disallow flash on Mac OS X until they make a 64-bit version too? :D j/k

Mac 10.6.2 HDTV HDMI via DisplayPort connectivity is abysmal, in my experience...

Do you play any tracks that exceed the 4 GB 32 bit limit? Or maybe it is foe videos? For I could see no benefit from having a 64 bit iTunes, at least for now (it will happen eventually when 32 bit becomes completely obsolete). To do that though they need to re-write QuickTime in its entirety in cocoa 64 And for this to happen there must be 64 bit versions of all third party codecs QT utilises. Do you like domino?

I hope 10.6.3 fixes the Intel graphics problem where sharpening photos in iPhoto, Aperture and Preview causes the screen to corrupt and sometimes the Mac to become unresponsive, from forums it seems that many other users with Intel graphics have had this problem, I reported it quite a while ago.

Other than this very annoying problem, Snow Leopard has been fine for me.

So is this going to fix my defective $5,000 Mac Pro?

What's defective about it? Maybe if you elaborate? My £4000 mac pro has no issues in use for audio, video or graphics work, so unless you tell us/Apple the problem, how are we to know. Have you reported your specific issues to Apple?

Well, Apple have never announced Bu-ray support, quite the opposite - if you listen to the rumour mill, you'll end up disappointed.

iTunes is not a part of the OS, so an OS update won't affect iTunes.

Flash is not blocked on the iPod because of lack of 64 bit support, it's blocked on the iPod/pad/Phone because it doesn't work without making a mess of the user experience by draining battery, swamping the processor, hanging the browser or crashing the device outright. No, it doesn't happen every time, but there is some atrocious flash content out there (ads, games) that will do it to you every time.

I'm using a doctor bott HDMI adapter - it looks incredible on screen. Even if the HDMI feed was ropey with the doctor bott adapter - how is that an issue for Apple? They don't make the interface for third party manufacturers...

What about the 'error -36' one regularly gets while copying files/folders from Mac on to a USB drive?
It's not just me. Google it and you'll see many more are affected by this. Tried almost everything suggested. 'error -36' still shows up!
The only way around is: Copy files one-by-one. Coz once you drag-n-drop an entire folder, the error -36 pops up!
I hope Apple fixes this. It's an irritating bug!

I've never had this issue, quick ask around the office and the same response from everyone - very quick to look at the OS - have you tried a different manufacturer of USB drive, wondered about a file corruption happening with a specific piece of software? Reported the exact circumstances of the issue to Apple?

Exposé "fix" please?

What's broken about it - again - your issue, as long as you've reported it to Apple and others with the same configuration are experiencing it, it will be being worked on. Apple don't want you to have a bad experience.

It's "no known issues" with the latest developer build of 10.6.3 :)

Of course - every time the OS update is exhaustively tested, with pressure from sites like these to get it out in the wild as soon as possible. If the developer community find errors, they would be fixed and reported before the upgrade was released. I don't understand how people don't realise that each set up is slightly different, different configurations, third party ram, third party hardware, software. It's simply not possible to test every combination, so people have to learn to follow simple instructions:

Back up your computer.

Perform the update.

Then, if any problems do occur, you can turn the clock back. Simples. Report your issue to Apple citing as much information about your set up as possible. If you don't tell them, they're not going to know.

People really do need to learn that problems they experience are not indicative of the experience of everyone on an operating system (windows, linux or mac os x). I see people complain "this is broken - fix it apple", and expect that everyone experiences the same issue. When apple become aware of a problem that isn't specific to one users set-up, I've yet to see a software or hardware fix not be issued. It takes time to isolate the cause, to work out the fix, to fully test it and then release it to consumers.

A little patience and perspective are needed.

The problem is caused by (invisible) metadada files named ._*, which cannot be copied to a FAT volume (why???).
In a Terminal, when you're in the folder you want to copy, just type:
find . -name '._*'
and you should see a lot of those files.
These are the files which are causing the copy problem if you're USING THE FINDER to copy the files/folders (!= using cp in the Terminal). If you delete all these metadata files, you can then copy the folder using the Finder. Apple is aware of this bug, and I hope they fix it soon...

Another annoying bug in FAT support is that you can't copy files > 4GB in a FAT volume (this is normal), but the Finder displays an alert saying "cannot copy file, error 0".

I've never seen this happen - what response have you had from Apple when reporting it?

My one issue at the moment is with mail, if i send a large file (10meg plus) I get a spinning beachball and the entire system hangs - the mouse is responsive, but I can't interact with anything.

I'm trying to work out what I've done to cause this, as I don't see many others reporting the same - would appreciate if anyone has any ideas how to solve this. Nice guy at Apple support is trying to help, but without taking my machine in there's not much more he can do for me.

I'm with you on exposé.

But hulu and flash video? Well, that's flash causing your heat and processor draw issues (was the video playback choppy as well?), and the reason why flash can't be ported to the phone/pod/pad. Hulu are about to offer a non-flash alternative.

I don't think exposé is an issue - it simply takes more power to process the new look, and it doesn't need 'fixing' as it's not 'broken'. I preferred it before, but I'm not sure apple will see this as something 'broken'.

Would love an issue to switch modes between "classic" and "new" exposé.

Take it back to Apple for a repair or replacement? How exactly are you expecting a general OS update to fix your specific 'blinking' issue. What have Apple said about your issue when you've spoken to them? It's odd that they have told you that they don't care about your issue.

I'm typing today on 5.1 MBP, and I've had no issues on it in the (nearly) year that I've owned it - it's not all models (just as the 27" iMac issue) But there will always be a minority of any electronic device released into the wild that have issues, it's the nature of electronics, multiple configurations and environmental factors.

These aren't 'bugs' in the mac OS, they are restrictions of the FAT file system. There's no way around them, if a third party system can't support something, Apple can't support it, unless you want Apple to redevelop FAT?

I've not received a response from Apple.

Do you have a Mac with Intel graphics? Everyone I seen say they have this problem seem to have an Intel graphics based Mac.

This thread describes the problem:

Yes, I have - and this has worried me, will check all the units in the offices on Monday, have yet to have it happen, but would rather avoid the issue before it occurs and costs us lost revenue/down time. Does it happen with files over a certain size?

Have you not called mac about the issue? That's always my first port of call alongside submitting a bug report.

any coder here that can confirm that the 10.6.3 contains new stuff to support i5/i7 CPU and possibly new VGA Ati 5830 for the rumored release of new MBP this month or March ?

As I read the developer agreement, confirming or denying your question would be a violation of the agreement, and could cost them their status.

It happens with raw files from my Nikon D40, without checking I think they're about 4Mb. I think I've had it happen with jpeg files from a compact as well.
