Apple today seeded the first the version of Mac OS X 10.6.7, termed Build 10J842, to developers. Coming just two weeks after the public release of Mac OS X 10.6.6 to support the Mac App Store, Mac OS X 10.6.7 will be yet another free maintenance release for Snow Leopard users.

We've yet to hear word of changes included in 10.6.7, but we will update this post as more information comes in.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; nl-nl) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

Yes, if they keep updating at this fast rate…

Eventually, they'll have to go to 11 !!

So? Nobody ever said they had to stop at 10. They did this with Tiger as well. If they wanted, they could go to Mac OS X 10.6.8096 or whatever.

But here's what I'm interested in: Will they finally add the AirPrint functionality that was cancelled at the last minute?

I think he meant OS "XI", not 10.6.11.

AirPrint seems somewhat reasonable, being pulled at the last minute and this update coming on 10.6.6's heels so fast. EDIT: at least one can hope! :)

so what type of animal will be os 11??? we are getting close :p

Well I'd guess Apple would stop naming the OS after animals, and choose some other "thing". There are plenty of things like planets, forests, oceans, galaxies, clouds, plants…

Perhaps the background of the Lotus in the Lion preview was a hint ;)

"Mac OS 11 Rain Forest" :D

:)

Well the real question is: when will Apple see the need to advance to another major version of Mac OS?

When OS X replaced Mac OS 9, it was a completely new OS which had few, if any, resemblance with the old one.
I don't think Apple will walk away from the base of OS X anytime soon as it is a very reliable system.

Focus Areas

:apple: Mac OS X 10.6.7 build 10J842 Seed Note

According to the Seed Notes, the focus will be on the following areas;

-*AirPort
- Bonjour
- SMB
- Graphics Drivers

There are no known issues.

Please be aware of the following notes: "Please be aware that you will not be able to revert back to your previous system after updating. Please install this update on a system you are prepared to erase if necessary. As this is a pre-release build, it is not advisable to use this software on a production system with information on it that you depend on for your business."

All I'm hoping for at this point is some better graphic drivers. Although I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see much improvement in that department until Lion rolls around. If Apple is up to date on OpenGL ES in iOS they should be up to date with OpenGL on Mac OS X instead of using a version from 2006.

It was a "Spinal Tap" ref.

Sorry if that was not obvious

Can someone explain to me why AirPrint is needed when You can print to any USB printer using AirPort Express?

Well here's my setup:
Printer connected to iMac. The iMac has network sharing for the printer enabled.
I have an iPhone, and an iPad, an when I'm in the living room and I find something interesting I'd like to print, it would be very convenient to just hit print on the iPad…

Why so soon?
Random guess: There is some Mac side stuff to support iOS 4.3's improvements to AirPlay and iOS 4.3 is needed to support Wi-Fi HotSpot which was promised for the Verizon iPhone which ships Feb 10th and so this is a rush job.

but not many of them are as cool as the big cats (just ask my 11 year old daughter). :)

It was in jest. What is the thinnest book ever published? 1000 years of German humour.... :) Sorry, couldn't resist, you are our best neighbours.

its great how there is no "known" issues...

here's one i've been griping about for a while: my airplay randomly cuts out. i dunno if its an AE firmware issue, OS X issue or iTunes, but I (and a few others) would appreciate it if apple would recognize this as a "known issue".

Any signs of new drivers for a MacBook Pro refresh? That's got to be coming within a few months and it'll be interesting to see if there are new Intel IGP drivers for Sandy Bridge or new ATI drivers for a switch away from nVidia discrete GPUs as rumoured.
