It sure would be great if someone posted the updated Activity Monitor, Console and Terminal icons

I remember about four years ago, when we were on 10.2 I was drooling over the UI - all my magazines I was reading at the time were saying how OS X was a lot more stable than OS9, and that the visual appeal was nothing short of extraordinary. I remember trying for hours to skin XP to look the same...OSX was genuinely the benchmark in attractive, clean and straightforward user interfaces.
Somehow its all gone wrong.
I knew it the second I saw the Time Machine interface - what the hell is that?
The "new" dock is outmoded, clunky, and frankly ugly.
the menu bar doesn't bother me, but it's hardly revolutionary let alone evolutionary...
I find that what apple did was read all our comments begging for a new UI, and plopped one on top to keep us happy. This wasn't a ground up build like apple normally go for, and it looks rushed.
I'm quite disheartened by this new look, and I can no longer say that OSX looks better than windows. I still wouldn't trade it in for anything, but apple would do well by sticking more closely to the simplistic work flow design of its original OSX, not the clunky, trying-too-hard visual "appeal" of late.
Am I the only one who actually likes the new Dock, Menu Bar, and all the other enhancments? (singing... I'm all alone... no one beside me... no one can hear me... lol)
FYI: That's from Shrek... lol.

I totally agree, maybe Apple has been listening a bit too much to their marketing departement as of late.
They are obviously trying to give everything the futuristic trendy look of glossy black and glass (much like the iPhone and new iMacs). I for one don't like it at all, but I know from my field of work that the "glossy black look" is what the average customer wants these days, so that's what they get, it just sells better.
You both must be joking because early Mac OS X versions were all about transparencies, pinstripes, candy-coatings and lollipops. Now that they're going for the matte OS 9 platinum-look with flat greyish-blue System 7-looking folders, you're saying they're going for a glossy black look? There's no glossy black finish anywhere in Leopard. You must have pirated the wrong OS.
I never used early versions of OS X but looking at this picture (Puma), it looked horrible!

I'm with ya 100%. I think the improvements are fantastic, and I find everyone's complaints a little trite. The dock is a huge improvement, and I also like the fact that when using Photoshop and other programs it isn't obstructive as 10.4's dock may be at times.
A lot of the complaints seem to be from "newbies" and/or Windows/Ex-Windows users. My only complaint, allow the user to "alter" the interface to their own individual needs, such as the menu bar transparency, more control over color options and gradients, etc. Then there wouldn't be much from the complainers.
I guess your a newbie then.. since you obviously haven't heard Apple using the following quote in the Think Different campaign.I agree... those switchers need to relize that they can't change the world. Or all of OS X for that matter.![]()

I loved when everyone was all up in arms about the dew on the grass background looking like the application running indicators.
BUT THE STARS IN THE BACKGROUND OF SPACE LOOK JUST LIKE THE LITTLE BLUE DOTS AND NO ONE IS COMPLAINING?
Some people are truly twisted in the head.
does it support new iMac now?
What do you mean? The new iMac is an Apple computer, why wouldn't it support the iMac. Are you asking if the upgrade is free? No it isn't, you will have to buy the new OS, not unless you buy an iMac or another Mac within a few days of the release of the Big Cat!
A couple more design notes...
It seems looking at the new desktops that anybody who wants a solid looking metal menu bar can use a desktop with a dark background, or add the 'strip' of black behind it.
I still think the transparency is an unnecessary mistake- even in the newest desktop example, what have we gained? A pink menubar... and even the stars obscure the type in their own way.
The other standout is still the new folder icons. They stick out like a sore thumb for all their muddiness. See the sys prefs... they clash with the pervasive aqua blue.
When I initially switched many years ago, like many ex-Windows users, two of the most frustrating differences were not being able to Cut, and not being able to full-screen maximise simply. I was told to stick with it, adapt, and I'd eventually appreciate Apple's design choices. I'm sorry but I still miss both features (the double-click titlebar to maximise the most - those little coloured buttons are so annoyingly small, and I still feel that a full-maximise would be so much more productive for me - I can instantly snap into the use of an application with no distractions on the screen). It's been many years, and I sometimes feel now that the designers at Apple Inc won't include these features out downright stubbornness - they don't want to admit that in the two small but important UI features, they were wrong and M$ were right. How could it really hurt to include them?
Anyone know if it's still possible in Lepoard to change the name of your homefolder and without warning "loose" all your data?
Agree.I think the folder icon looks extremely nice in the system preferences. Looks a million times better than the existing Sharing folder icon in Tigers sys Pref menu
From what I heard, the last build of Leopard didn't support the new iMac.
