I wonder if iTunes Store and App Store applications are included in the new version.

Actually all of you are wrong, re version.

Beta 1 was 1.2. Beta 2 was 2.0. Beta 3 is 2.0. This is in the official ROM About page.

So yes, the previous one was 2.0. The one previous to that was 1.2.

And I can tell you (legitimately) that not all developer iPhones were bricked today. I believe it simply depended on when you downloaded the second OS build.

It's good to see Apple working this fast. My only gripe (and its minor) is that each build of the SDK has to be downloaded in its entirety. And I get that it is still in the beta stages. I just hope that later when its finalized, patches will be available.

I agree. Downloading the entire SDK is getting ridiculous. Re-downloading the same stuff just to get minor upgrades!

Imagine if Operating Systems were upgraded this way! haha! And by that I mean when 10.5.3 comes out you would have to download the ENTIRE OS just to get the upgraded parts! That would take days to download since their servers would be flooded!!

I'm here to find this out too... the SDK is taking forever to download (I'm on 10Mb/s and I'm only getting around 4Mb/s from Apple).
That's what you call taking forever? Try on a 6Mb/s connection getting 400Kb/s from Apple!

it pissed me off!!!

I woke up at 4 AM this morning to see my iPhone with what i will call the "Purple Screen of Death"!!! and the "connect to iTunes" on it :(

so... I go over to my iMac, plug it in, open the Xcode Organizer Window... and it says: this version of the iphone OS has expired, please update to the latest version. :D so i supposed there was a new version out and i go to my iPhone Dev Center and Program Portal to discover that THERE WAS NO NEW VERSION??? WTF happened??

I then went looking through pages of documentation... trying to see which of my certificates were missing or whatever...
So ... I tried reinstalling build 5a225c.... waited for it... still nothing.. but now it says : device not activated, please activate in iTunes. But... iTunes reported errors when trying to update... so... i tried reinstalling the whole SDK again, and still nothing happened

i tried contacting ADC support at 5 AM but they don't open until 7 AM:mad:
so i emailed them..... and then went on through my day WITHOUT MY PHONE!!! nothing to do in-between breaks at work ( i count pills at walgreens pharmacy ) no music to listen to while doing it... all day i had fears in my mind that my phone is bricked and might never recover!!:(

Then i come home 9 hours later to discover that Apple did post a new version of the iPhone OS and SDK. I am happy for it, but at the same time very, very disgusted! Why did they not come out with the new software BEFORE they bricked my iPhone??? I WANT COMPENSATION!! ( $99 development fee refund?? LOL) but i know i wont get it.

oh well....... that first 2.0 Beta sucked anyway.... always crashing every 20 minutes, hopefully version 2.0 of version 2.0 will be better ;):apple:

I still think its very uncool apple allowed the firmware to expire before issuing the new firmware, imagine not having a phone for a few hours!!!

Well it's only for developers at this point and I'm sure the agreements state that these beta firmwares should not be installed on an everyday use iPhone.

Yea really, I'm waiting until May to install any beta firmware on my every-day phone.

Also, the SDK is looking good over here. No -10810 errors yet. Normally I've had it crap out on my once after five build-and-gos.

And finally on the iPhone 3G chip note, that does look good. The PDF is here. I would hope its a sign of an impending announcement.

everyday use

yes, the documentation did note that...

but it's the only iPhone i have! I'm new to software development... just learned C less than a month ago (bought some books). Just got done with learning Obj.-C. Now i just gotta learn Cocoa ;);)

if i'm gonna make apps for ordinary users... why not do it on an ordinary iphone?

I'm getting following message every time I sync my iPhone with iTunes after upgrading. Purchased movie from iTunes Store cannot be synced. Does anyone have same problem?

"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone "myiPhone" because the iPhone software is too old. Go to the Summary tab in the iPhone preferences and click Update to get the latest iPhone software update."

don't worry

in my experience... the same thing happened

all the music bought on iTunes doesn't play in the Beta. same goes with Ringtones HOWEVER custom ringtones made in GarageBand do sync and you can use those in the Beta.... PodCasts seem to work too... i haven't tested purchased movies, but bought ringtones and music won't play :p

Crap! Just got the -10810 error. It took much longer and a lot more prodding than beta 2, but I finally managed to coax it out of its hole after a bunch of bad access errors.

I also managed to look more at the chip spec, I'm kinda disappointed it doesnt support HSUPA. So no fast uploads of video from the phone to youtube. Also the chip can turn of HSDPA to save power - so when the iphone is playing a game or download stock and weather updates, it can use WCDMA/GSM for downloading and save power. I wonder if that'll be a configurable option from the SDK or an OS level thing.

Any evidence that 802.1X support is being worked on? I know that Apple says it will be in the 2.0 firmware update, but no one mentions it at all anymore. Super-important if the iPhone is going to be used in a university setting.

+infinity

This is the feature I have been looking the most forward to. If anyone has any info if it's currently functional that would be great.

Looks like the chip also work with A-GPS, assuming this means they could put a GPS receiver on the phone. This would be great so you don't always have to have a good signal like my buddy needs on his HTC Touch. Not sure what the current iPhone setup supports, but if it doesn't currently support this, it is good news I think.

All 5a225c builds were soft-coded (into the lockdown file, people found it days ago) to deactivate today, so it has nothing to do with when you downloaded it. Yes, I did redownload a copy of it just to make sure they didn't push back the expiration date. The only thing that seemed to stop deactivation is if it wasn't iTunes activated in the first place, i.e. hacktivated.
