Any evidence that 802.1X support is being worked on? I know that Apple says it will be in the 2.0 firmware update, but no one mentions it at all anymore. Super-important if the iPhone is going to be used in a university setting.

+infinity

This is the feature I have been looking the most forward to. If anyone has any info if it's currently functional that would be great.

yes, it works great :)

I don't have time to search right now.. can anyone confirm if the Infineon 3G chip is HSUPA compatible? Are there other phones with HSUPA yet?
Admittedly, I'm not a GSM guy. I've been using Verizon's CDMA EVDO 3G for years..

Can anyone in the iPhone dev program who installed the new firmware comment on whether it still prevents iTunes-downloaded music from actually playing on the device?

That is the one thing that is keeping me from installing the beta firmware on my iPod on a more than temporary basis (I just occasionally install it to test my apps and then revert to 1.1.4).

All 5a225c builds were soft-coded (into the lockdown file, people found it days ago) to deactivate today, so it has nothing to do with when you downloaded it. Yes, I did redownload a copy of it just to make sure they didn't push back the expiration date. The only thing that seemed to stop deactivation is if it wasn't iTunes activated in the first place, i.e. hacktivated.

Then why was mine not deactivated? I have *never* run any hack.

beautiful

fixed all three problems i was experiencing with my mbp:

- closed lid with external monitor didn't work after the graphics update
- resolution on external monitor (in dual monitor mode) was wrong
- screen not coming on after lid was opened from sleep

Great day for me!

thanks hard working engineers at apple!

How does a new iPhone SDK fix problems with your MBP?

Where's the ActiveSync for Mail on Mac OS X computers, Apple? Why should iPhones be special? We know MS won't give us full Outlook on Macs, so ActiveSync on Mail.app would be fine. ;-)

After some more playing around, I haven't had another -10810 tonight. I guess when I write less crappy code the app doesn't crash as much.

Wow. Must be one hell of a SDK update!

It definitely doesn't have anything to do with microsoft. The mac os simply does not currently have the technologies necessary to support an AD connected client. Moving forward, all of that is going to change, mainly due to a renewed commitment by microsoft to start doing the right thing.

The problem is that it will take a couple of years...

btw, activesync is a mobile protocol and is not necessarily designed to work with a desktop application, but as far as Im aware, it would be very easy to use it to create a desktop application...

Wait, 802.1X with the need for certificates, authentication, and having both a username and password required to log in? Because no one seems to be reporting on that being supported in the new build (as of yet).

I'm not talking about just regular WiFi but 802.1X support.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.1x

If it is, then could someone take pics?

It was titled 1.2beta, though it was being called 2.0 beta in the press. link

EDIT: MrT8064 beat me to it :)

It'll be interesting to see how much of the change is due to engineering pragmatism and how much is due to marketing buzz. I'll also be interested in whether Apple eventually moves to the Intel based low memory CPU's instead of ARM, given it should allow easier development and testing for future versions.

Great! I have over 2000 contacts on my phone, and it's a pain to remember every single name in there (like above, there are about 20 people that share the first name "Bob".

Cover flow would be awesome, both on Mac OSX and on the iPhone. Contacts without pictures could have their full name, address, company, phone numbers and, most important: notes displayed in a neat fashion in the thumbnail. I don't think any 3rd party developer has made an alternative Contacts view for iPhone. If there is one, please PM me. Meanwhile, I'll check out that contacts database and see how hard it would be to cross-breed it with the cover flow application launcher and apps that display the application thumbnails next to their name.

:eek::eek::eek:
People! This guy seems to have the 3G iPhone already! "Lid", "external monitor", that sounds bad ass!!

Oh wait, he's talking about the OSX software update. :D

Don't know if this has already been posted - but how is the SDK different fromt the one launched about 4/5 weeks ago?

for the love of God...
finally they got contacts search. and i thought spotlight was one of mac os x's most valued features. so now, onto spotlight in os x too.!!
great going :apple:.

Admittedly, I'm not a GSM guy. I've been using Verizon's CDMA EVDO 3G for years..

The PDF Mentions:

Infi neon’s 3.5 G physical layer architecture is future-proof and designed for an easy
upgrade to higher HSDPA data rates, HSUPA and also Rx-diversity.

Here's a list of features, one thing of note is the Boot code protection. I wonder if that will kill off the jailbreak guys (different from todays chip?).

Also, it states a 3MP camera interface, not a 5 as some of the articles claim.

Key Application Features
ARM 926 based modem and application processor
Hardware security - DRM 2.0, E-fuse, Boot Code Protection
Display interface supporting buffered and unbuffered color displays up to
HVGA resolution
High-speed serial display interface for cost effi cient clamshell mechanics
3 MPixel camera interface
HW accelerators for 2D graphics, colour code conversion, motion estimation
MP3, AAC, AAC+, enhanced AAC+ capable
Support for video telephony, streaming, recording and playback
Multimedia extension interface for support of high end video and
graphic accelerators
2 x SDIO interfaces, 2 I2S, Fast IRDA
USB 2.0 on-the-go, full speed
NAND fl ash controller supporting burst mode and error detection
Support of DDR-SDRAM devices

Looks pretty good overall...

I woke up at 4 AM this morning to see my iPhone with what i will call the "Purple Screen of Death"!!! and the "connect to iTunes" on it :(

Then i come home 9 hours later to discover that Apple did post a new version of the iPhone OS and SDK. I am happy for it, but at the same time very, very disgusted! Why did they not come out with the new software BEFORE they bricked my iPhone??? I WANT COMPENSATION!! ( $99 development fee refund?? LOL) but i know i wont get it.

Are you for real? Who the hell uses dev build firmware on his actual phone and then cries for compensation when it doesn't work as expected!?

For the this most current release and the previous beta firmware, I have (apparently) been able to connect to my WPA2 enterprise network at work. The iPhone gets an IP address and is "ping-able", but I have not been able to get to any web pages from Safari (either internal network or via a defined HTTP proxy from the external internet). Strangely, setting up a Windows PC to use the enterprise wireless requires the installation of a company specifc root certificate. The new iPhone stuff does not have a way to do this, but it seems to connect. So, it may be working, or it may not.

Code highlighting has stopped working for me as have auto-completion (double checked my settings) and this on a completely fresh install of Mac OS X 10.5.2 on my MacBook (did it yesterday).
Edit: To clarify a little bit: Code highlighting only works for statements (if/else/while/and so on) and for variables declared in the interface of classes (@interface { NSString *foo; }).
Tough no standard objects will be highlighted nor will any methods/class methods be highlighted or auto-completed. Very annoying.

I woke up at 4 AM this morning to see my iPhone with what i will call the "Purple Screen of Death"!!! and the "connect to iTunes" on it :(

so... I go over to my iMac, plug it in, open the Xcode Organizer Window... and it says: this version of the iphone OS has expired, please update to the latest version. :D so i supposed there was a new version out and i go to my iPhone Dev Center and Program Portal to discover that THERE WAS NO NEW VERSION??? WTF happened??

I then went looking through pages of documentation... trying to see which of my certificates were missing or whatever...
So ... I tried reinstalling build 5a225c.... waited for it... still nothing.. but now it says : device not activated, please activate in iTunes. But... iTunes reported errors when trying to update... so... i tried reinstalling the whole SDK again, and still nothing happened

i tried contacting ADC support at 5 AM but they don't open until 7 AM:mad:
so i emailed them..... and then went on through my day WITHOUT MY PHONE!!! nothing to do in-between breaks at work ( i count pills at walgreens pharmacy ) no music to listen to while doing it... all day i had fears in my mind that my phone is bricked and might never recover!!:(

Then i come home 9 hours later to discover that Apple did post a new version of the iPhone OS and SDK. I am happy for it, but at the same time very, very disgusted! Why did they not come out with the new software BEFORE they bricked my iPhone??? I WANT COMPENSATION!! oh well....... that first 2.0 Beta sucked anyway.... always crashing every 20 minutes, hopefully version 2.0 of version 2.0 will be better ;):apple:
i don't know. i'm just surprised when developers don't have a backup phone. so the phone that you are developing for is your only phone? seems a bit careless.
