I would like to see iTunes get back to music only. If you think about it iTunes, which was for music now runs all the iPhone and iPad apps. It's too much clutter.

I agree. Now defunct iSync would've been a good vehicle for managing mobile devices.

The latest iOS beta is still buggy as hell especially the music.app. I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least a few more releases.

And what are they going to do about the new voice capabilities? Ship them without letting developers test it? Maybe they'll save voice for iOS 5.1.

Yes, the music app is really bad now but I think they are doing that bug testing internally and not really providing bug fixes in the betas. They are giving betas to developers to test their own apps and the music app isn't necessary for that. I could be wrong though.

I know this is fake but...I mean...some really good ideas in there.
Like after reading this I'm suddenly dissappointed in iOS5

They ARE good features. I read that and for a second I thought it might be true, and switching back to Android didn't seem as logical.. But nope. The list went on and it was obviously fake! *shrug*

That's because nearly all of those are JB tweaks...all of that has been done before, but iOS 5 hasn't caught up just yet. Maybe next year.

If you are familiar with past betas you would know that the music app is always buggy until the GM. It always has issues with cover art and playback right up until the GM.

Reading the list of features posted, it looks like they're finally including the one thing I've been wanting. Using any song in music app as your ringtone. Finally, I won't have to make a ringtone version of one of my songs, just to use it as a ringtone :)

Is anyone having trouble installing the iWork beta? It installed fine on my iPad but keeps saying it could not sync to my iPhone. Both are running iOS 5, beta 7. Any suggestions?

I wonder if they do this intentionally, to encourage people to upgrade from betas to the GM?

Can not wait for this but I was wondering Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 will be out before iTunes 5 and iOS 5 right? I doubt they will release it all at the same time that would be one MAJOR server RAPE LOL. Please I hope I am right.

This. If Apple is going to announce a "one more thing" feature, such as the rumored Nuance integration, the GM can only be released after the announcement.

We are not going to see the GM before the announcement.

Nuance or not, the GM has to be held back until iPhone 5 is unveiled.

This new beta of iTunes sees no improvement from the last in terms of iTunes Match. Still slow, stalls out before matching all songs, etc.

Mine actually went all the way through this time (more than 20K songs) and seems to have done a good job matching. The main problems I have is that it randomly disconnects from the cloud. Also, it won't rematch the songs it failed to match prior. Luckily it's just beta and will hopefully be fixed for the final release.

My iTunes match finished with this update, but after turning it on on my iphone, the music app shows the cloud with spinning circle for a few seconds before going back to the 'no music' screen. What am i doing wrong here? Dev forums don't seem to mention this at all

What do include in this 'music only'? Podcasts? Audiobooks? Music videos? Video Podcasts? Movies and TV shows?

Yes, one could follow the iOS division into:
  • Music (including podcasts and audiobooks)
  • Videos/Movies/TV shows
  • App Store
  • iTunes Store
Not sure where music videos and video podcast fit in here (don't have any).

But then 'iTunes Store' on the Mac side is integrated with tabs for Music, Audiobooks, Movies, Podcasts, App Store. But the Mac App Store has its own application.

So assume the synching part of iTunes (essentially what you see in the main window when selecting a device in the source pane) were to be spun off as a separate application, as the movies/video part, as would be the (iOS) App Store, the iTunes Store (which would still purchase movies).
In this scenario, you would buy movies and music in one application and then find them in another. And you would uncheck songs in one application to not have them synced in another app.

I don't see much benefit in this idea (unless you feel that it would be the only solution to keep the performance high in all the parts of iTunes).

I know the reason Apple hasn't done that because iTunes is their link into the world of Windows and they probably don't want to make Windows users download another piece of their software.
That is certainly one reason why things are as they are.

what do you mean it rematched? I updated and iTunes match didn't improve at all. It doesn't even look like it re-scanned at all, still uploaded 600+ of my 700 songs. Not to mention I used tuneup to fix all my meta data and it did a great job, so matching shouldn't be an issue. Is there any way to delete the uploaded music? cause my iTunes is starting to look like **** with multiple uploads and copies.
