The fact that mixing beta releases of important software increases the chances of your test machine experiencing a horrible horrible crash while decreasing their chances of getting useful bug reports from the aforementioned crash?

You make a good point. So the safari 4 limitation isn't a bug. It'll be lifted for the final release? Good to know. Experiencing no problems with it.

As fir release date, couldn't care less when. I'm just dreading it's size. It's gotta be huge by now.

I am still using Tiger and I was thinking of picking up leopard, but now with Snow Leopard coming in a few months I am not sure what I should do.

Do I wait or purchase now and then again later?

I'd wait for Snow Leopard if I were you.

Well, chances are you won't see the final release of SL till another 6 month or so...

Get 10.5...because if history is a guide, the first few months after the initial release, the OS will have significant bugs in it. Right now 10.5 is pretty stable, but this has been after several updates.

The farther they push out the date of this 10.5.7 release reduces how high the number of 5.x will go before SL. My guess is 2 or at most 3. We'll get 10.5.8 in the june/july timeframe and then 1 more as a prep about a month before SL gets out in September.

I'm just dreading it's size. It's gotta be huge by now.

According to AppleInsider (they must mean "users running 10.5.6"):

an approximately 443 megabyte delta update for Mac users running Mac OS X 10.5.7. A separate distribution capable of updating earlier versions of the Leopard OS reportedly weighs in around 730 megabytes.

Well, chances are you won't see the final release of SL till another 6 month or so...

And not sufficiently bug-free until at least 8 months from now.

I'm not sure I want to rush out and buy Snow Leopard as soon as it comes out. I think I'll wait until they find the rest of the bugs before I switch from what is pretty solid right now. I really don't care if it is next month or the end of the year.;)

Way stupid question. So is this update something I will have to purchase? I got my new imac about a month ago (give or take a week) I assume this is a new OS and so will need to be purchased. ( again sorry is stupid question ;) ) how much will it cost if $$ invloved?

I hope they fix the 8600M GT drivers for the MBP. But I certainly won't hold my breath for the wallpaper switcher to actually work properly and for them to fix desktop performance.:mad:

It will remain in beta and I think it'll be released with SL too, but what about people who are currently using the Safari 4 beta...? It is a public beta after all..

I'm wondering the same. I'm running Safari 4 Betaight now, almost from the first day when it was released, and had not a single problem or crash with it so far - and I use it hours daily. So I really got used to it and would like to keep it. Hope this will be possible, perhaps with a new Safari Beta after the 10.5.7 release.

No 10.5.7 is a free update.. Snow Leopard (the next release of OSX 10.6 will be something you need to pay for though).

Updates like 10.5.7 are available for free through :apple: menu->Software Update or by downloading an install file.

Major releases like 10.6 (Snow Leopard) you need to pay for; historically the price has been $129 (US).

ahhhh nice... with all of these releases let's just hope that there won't be too long of a wait until the final release. I am glad that they are releasing betas as they are, you might as well fix as many bugs as you can before public release

go :apple:

Snow Leopard once thought to have a June release-I recall now being pushed to Q 4
Lets hope its not full retail
Ive also read about of a new seed in MFI or MRs, only to see it released later that afternoon

Is your Mac Intel or PPC based?
If Intel - wait. If PPC - go Leopard.

No way Snow Leopard is released in June, it will merely be demonstrated and Apple will announce that it will be available later this year.

I hope it includes a fix for HDMI monitors with the new Mac Pro!

I had to buy a 3rd party app just to get my GT 120 to pump out 1920x1200 rather than trying to use 1920x1080. (I have an LG LCD 8bit monitor that has HDMI not DVI).

Monitor worked fine with my older iMac so I know it isn't OSX/LCD.

How have you been a member of MR for a year and a half and have 6502 member status and only bought a mac a month ago? :confused:

So are you curious as to why I don't post more or not enough ;) I honestly has to search to figure our what that status meant LOLOLO now I can add an avatar YIPEEE!!!

Taking bets on the last incarnation of Mac OS X v10.5

10.5.8 = 4:1
10.5.9 = 2:1
10.5.11 = 3:1
10.5.16 = evens
