There have been 12 Monday OS X updates, 9 on Tuesday, 10 on Wednesday, 7 on Thursday, 4 on Friday, and 1 on Saturday (the very first one - 10.0.1).

I guess based on the historical pattern the odds decrease as we get later in the week.

Or do they actually increase? As we get later in the week, we get closer to the start of a new one...

LOLOLOL the iPhone hooked me and I have been swimming around here ever since :) I would have got the iMac 6 months ago but was patiently waiting for the new one. Very happy so far and still have questions that normally get answered here pretty quick. Not only did I get the iMac a month ago I just got ATV last week :)

So are you curious as to why I don't post more or not enough ;) I honestly has to search to figure our what that status meant LOLOLO now I can add an avatar YIPEEE!!!

 I think somebody's had a bit much happy juice!

I'm going to sit out 10.5.7 until I see if there are any issues. I find 10.5.6 to be quite literally perfect. I have *no* issues whatsoever with it.

I predict it comes out on Tuesday, April 20 April 21.

I'm gonna go with a Monday since most of them have been released on Monday. That's where the probability lies. Unless you luck out and they do Tuesday for the first time with Leopard. haha

10.5.0 - Friday - 26 October 2007
10.5.1 - Thursday - 15 November 2007
10.5.2 - Monday - 11 February 2008
10.5.3 - Wednesday - 28 May 2008
10.5.4 - Monday - 30 June 2008
10.5.5 - Monday - 15 September 2008
10.5.6 - Monday - 15 December 2008

I hope that 10.5.7 will only increase the performance of my soon to be shipped 24in iMac 3.06 ATI4850.

Orginally I had thought that the delay in shipping was due to it needing 10.5.7, but apparently there are a few who have already received them with 10.5.6 as the default

why on earth would you think that? Delays are due to lack of parts. Not because they are wanting to make sure you have 10.5.7 or whatever the latest software is on before it gets to. That's what Software updates are for.;)

ROFL. You made me laugh with that comment.

My 8600M GT fried yesterday so my MBP will be "in the shop" for a week or so. I hope I get it back before the update is released.

I would have thought it would be released w/ Snow Leopard. It's a bit intensive and some of the new technology in that release might help performance.

Also, I guess 10.5.7 is released on Tuesday.

The problem with that idea is two-fold. One is that Safari 4 is definitely the fastest/smoothest Safari yet and work very responsive (even more than Firefox which is also fine) on my PPC based PowerMac so the idea that it needs help with performance is just nonsensical to me. And secondly, you make it sound like Safari 4 will be Snow Leopard only, which not only makes it sound ridiculous that they would release betas for Leopard, but Tiger as well. Why release betas if it's only for Snow Leopard. Apple has been saying all along that Snow Leopard is not a major step forward for the operating system and it's more of an optimization and bug fix release and this idea that it will probably drop PPC support has had the Intel-only supporters telling us forever that Leopard will be supported for some time to come because of that and so the suggestion that Snow Leopard might end major system software for Leopard sounds a little scary at best.

I personally think the idea of releasing Safari 4 with Snow Leopard just as a publicity stunt (something "major" to include with it) is a bad idea. Putting your non-beta browser way behind the other non-beta browsers just to make your OS release look better just makes the whole company look bad, IMO. I also sincerely hope they put a few more OPTIONS in the preference pane for things like having the old style tabs for those of us that don't like the new Google Chrome style tabs and the inconsistency of the interface with the rest of the OS that it creates. Yes, you can currently change it in the shell, but that's very un-Apple, although I suppose forcing people to use the Apple way instead of giving them customization choices IS very Apple.

Why? No seriously, Why? That's kind of a bizarre statement to make so I'm just curious.

Let's hope as soon as 10.5.7 is released Apple starts selling those 4870's directly from their website. I'm tired of waiting "4-5 weeks."

Safari 4 + 10.5.7

Regarding Safari 4 and 10.5.7, it's likely we'll see a Safari 4 beta update along with 10.5.7, so a Safari 4 update could be holding them back. My guess is Safari 4 beta is based on some Snow Leopard APIs and it takes a bit of work to get it working with 10.5 Leopard -- but that's a complete guess.

I'd say at the latest next Tuesday as I'm fairly certain, among other things, 10.5.7 has updated ATI drivers. The new iMac's with ATI 4850's have been delayed since their introduction. I'm not sure if it was because of card availability or driver availability.

talk about fixing bugs.... anybody here have a little unresolved issue with iChat's video for like 5 years now??? It is the most inconsistent feature in the world!!

+1

I'm also interested that perhaps the nvidia 8800 would have an update in drivers. Performance in EA games titles is pathetic with this card, far below what the hardware will support. Barefeats mentioned an upcoming driver update, but I've not seen any availability.

New MacBook Pro

My wife and I saw the latest MacBook Pro and love the new LED screen. Side-by-side with a PC really shows how much nicer this screen is over less expensive PC.

It looks like MacBook Pro is ready for an update soon as the current model is from October 2008.

It will be nice to hold-off another month or so and purchase one pre-loaded with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" than purchase now, feel "screwed" then need to pay to upgrade OS.

Any rumors on refreshing MacBook Pro line?

Thanks!

What problems in particular? Most of the issues with iChat are PEBKAC - user based. Check the following:

1. If not using an Apple router, ensure that your proper ports are open in order for audio/video data to be sent and received (for further information, google "port fowarding ichat")

2. Open "System Preferences", ensure that "Internet Sharing" isn't checked under "Sharing"

3. Lastly, ensure that the party you are attempting a video/audio chat with has their ports open on a non-Apple router. You may also utilize "Connection Doctor" in iChat to check incoming/outgoing data transfer rates.

According to AppleInsider (they must mean "users running 10.5.6"):

I doubt that it will be that large once it is actually released.. Typically, the developer builds contain a lot of extra stuff that the developers can use to evaluate bugs etc. I'm thinking that once 10.5.7 actually ships, it'll weigh in around 150-200mb for intel.

As for Safari 4 beta issues, I believe it to be a simple fix, theyre just omitting it. I doubt it'll be an issue once it actually ships. There is also the chance that Safari 4 Beta 2 will be coming out shortly. So, then it would be pointless to make adjustments to make Beta 1 to work...

They had better get that Safari 4.0 beta bug fix soon, cause I'm not updating until they do. I love the new Safari compared to the old. No way, no how am I going back. :)

I doubt we'll make it past 10.5.9. We might, but that's one update every three months to get there by the time 10.6 comes out, and at most they might do one more after that, so highest would be 10.5.10. If they go further I'll be quite surprised.
