What do you guys think: Will Apple wait until 10.5.7 is compatible with Safari 4 beta before releasing 10.5.7?

I don't think you quite grasp the situation. With 10.5.7, Safari Beta 4 will not install on any machine. It is incompatible with the release. This will effectively end testing of the current beta, at least for those who have not installed the beta yet or need to reinstall.

No, I don't think you get it. It's a beta. 10.5.7 will work just fine with Safari 4 when the FINAL is released to the general public, not just beta-testers. If you think that ends the Safari 4 beta test, you don't have a clue what the beta of Leopard is for. In fact, I'd wager you should not have the beta of Leopard in the first place since you can't seem to grasp it's purpose (i.e. it's not for daily general purpose use; it's to test new features of Leopard for bugs).

Woah! Chillout, dude.

I don't have the Leopard beta. Where did I say I ever did? I did say that the problems with loading the Safari beta onto this build WILL hold the release up. The poster I was replying to did not think it was a big deal. You may have gotten confused. In the post above, I was talking about the effective ending of Safari beta testing if 10.5.7 gets released, not 10.5.7 testing.

How can we be sure what the reason is that the Safari beta is working with it? I thought I read if it was already installed then it continued working just fine? That would imply that Safari 4 Beta installer simply isn't set to install on newer builds or beta builds. That's easily corrected with an updated Safari 4 beta or maybe just a non-beta Leopard release. I wouldn't assume it would hold up anything at this point.

Why would anybody ever think that Apple would release an update to leopard that will render useless the beta testing of their NEWEST browser just released a few weeks ago?!
That just doesn't make ANY sense at all, so I don't understand why people are FREAKING out about this lol...

I think it's safe to say it won't be today.

I've given up predicting this one, I've been wrong too many times. :(

Isn't, in a way, the putative big update build coming for 10.6 related to the 10.5.7 build release, along with Safari 4? 10.5.7 is an update and a wrap up of 10.5 afaik. They've got the various changes coming through with 10.6, and likely shift of focus once 10.5.7 is sorted. With the regularity of the updates, I'd imagine seeing what's happening with Safari might be a decent indicator - anyone have any information as to the speed at which Safari will come out of beta?

I think that, unfortunately, you are correct. :(

No news finally for JUNO. I guess it;s going to be a June release along with all the new stuff from apple.

Any ideas?

What is the likelihood that OSX 10.5.7 will unify all Macbooks? I've just bought an Nvidia WhiteBook and apparently can't use a clone of my 10.5.6 drive from my current Intel WhiteBook because of different graphics drivers and other bits.

If I update to 10.5.7 will I be able to simply swap the drives or clone, do you think?

Toontra,

Hello again! What exactly happens when you try to boot-up your Nvidia Whitebook from the 10.5.6 drive from your older Intel WhiteBook?

Really hope it also fixes the permission issues with the Leopard firewall - certain applications (Office 2008, Transmission to name a few) keep asking if I want to allow or deny incoming connections. Even if they are in the list, it still asks me.

That and 802.1X WiFi improvements and fixes and I'll be happy.

I still have no idea what the big holdup is, but either way, it looks as if we won't be seeing this one for a while. One would think that after 8 or 9 beta builds with "no issues" except for Safari not working, that Apple would fix the issue of Safari not working.

What about those of us who already have the Safari 4b installed (and in fact use a Webkit nightly for regular browsing); will 10.5.7 lock down the web browser?

have you even bothered reading what everybody else has been saying in this thread?
Safari is a BETA version.
10.5.7 is also a BETA only released to developers.
WHY would they have two betas testing together? They both have different issues and bugs.
It makes sense that Safari 4 would only work on the FINAL version of 10.5.7, instead of the developer versions.
And it WILL WORK! When Apple releases an update like 10.5.7, obviously they expect most of their Leopard customers to upgrade to it. So do you honestly think that having just put out Safari 4, they would release a software update that would render Safari 4 useless on all the macs upgrading to 10.5.7??!!
That makes absolutely no sense from a business point of view!
