I think Snow Leopard won't be released until WWDC 2010.

They said it'd ship "approximately one year" after WWDC 2008, so sometime in the latter half of 2009. There is no way they'd extend it another year beyond that after their statement.

10.5.7 Firewire

I hope they fix the FireWire 800 port incompatibility issue on Mac book pro.
After the chipset change from Texas Instruments to Agere there is an issue where the mac book pro does not recognise some devices like the soundcard Fireface800 and etc. Fingers crossed!

Their statement is just as reliable as my own statement. Trust me.

Hope It's Released Soon...

It's getting a little tiring seeing 1 or 2 articles a week regarding this update. Hopefully it will be released soon, for those that need the bug fixes, and to get onto something else newsworthy. My MacBook is running great and haven't even rebooted since Safari 4 Beta came out. Of course I will update when it is finally released.

I don't know if anyone has said this before, but the Safari 4 Beta now works with Hotmail.com. Just a little heads up for those who had to switch over to Firefox every time, if that was your case

About time :), just reinstalled safari 4 again and all is at peace in the world!

10.5.7..Thursday or Friday next week...when they start shipping the 4870's 10.5.7 should be out as its needed for drivers.

That was the only time Apple has ever done that. Tiger got just one update less than three weeks after Leopard's release.

3 * 3 = 9. Nine months from now is January.

Personally I think 10.5.8 and 10.5.9 will come quite shortly after each other, for some odd reason... But yes, You are probably right, 10.5.9 will be the final version...

I hope the video drivers in this release will allow use of the 4870 on older Mac Pros (even if not officially supported). I've read some things that indicate that may be possible.

OS X 10.5.7 will have the Feb 2009 drivers for ATI cards that are shipping with the 2009 Mac Pros. Whether Apple decides to support the 2006 and 2007 Mac Pros, the 4870 does work in them. We have successfully run it in a 2006 Woodcrest and 2007 Clovertown.

BTW, AppleMacanix.com is selling a flashed 4870 with two "normal" DVI ports, one with dual-link support. And they have an installer posted that will correctly add the newest drivers to 10.5.6 on any Mac Pro. We used their installer when we tried the 4870 on various Mac Pros. (Just copying them into the Extensions folder does not work.)

What is the likelihood that OSX 10.5.7 will unify all Macbooks? I've just bought an Nvidia WhiteBook and apparently can't use a clone of my 10.5.6 drive from my current Intel WhiteBook because of different graphics drivers and other bits.

If I update to 10.5.7 will I be able to simply swap the drives or clone, do you think?

never had that problem!

The problems stems from a quirk between MobileMe syncing and QuickTime. You only get the problem if you have turned automatic syncing on in System Preferences and then try and watch a movie in QuickTime. Every time your computer tries to sync anything in the background while you are watching a movie in QuickTime, your dock will pop up. VERY annoying!

WOW TOONTRA!!! This is exactly my situation! I'm using 10.5.6 Build 9G55. It is different from the 10.5.6 Build that came pre-installed on the Nvidia WhiteBook. I tried to simply swap dives, and when I boot-up, there is a lot of command prompt-style text against a black screen before it goes into any form of a GUI. When I run Geekbench, the results are very poor.

I don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything. I just want to swap the drives.

Welcome to the club! Hopefully someone will know the answer to this. :)

Thanks, Toontra. I hope someone does know the answer to this.

I currently use a Santa Rosa 2.2 GHz WhiteBook. When I bought it, I also bought an aftermarket Hitachi 200GB 7200 RPM drive, which I did a clean install (aka "Erase and Install") of 10.5.0. I've been using Macs for 22 years, and I've noticed that I usually have significantly fewer problems than people who use "Upgrade and Install" or the new Migration Assistant.

It would be a major hassle to reinstall all my programs, tweak all the settings to what is necessary for me, etc.

This is what I plan to do:
When 10.5.7 is released, I'll download it onto the stock hard drive with the pre-installed special build of 10.5.6 that came with my Nvidia WhiteBook. I will not be using that drive, but the reason I'll download 10.5.7 onto it is so I can check the build number, and compare it to the 10.5.7 build number which I'll download onto my 7200 RPM drive on my Santa Rosa WhiteBook. If the build numbers are the same, then I'll just swap the 7200 RMP dive into the Nvidia WhiteBook. I WILL NOT FIRST SWAP THE DRIVE INTO THE NVIDIA WHITEBOOK AND THEN DOWNLOAD 10.5.7, AS THIS MAY LEAD TO CORRUPTION OF THE FILES ON THE DRIVE. 10.5.6 Build 9G55 is not working properly with the Nvidia WhiteBook, so it would be crazy to pop that drive into the Nvidia WhiteBook and then install 10.5.7.

Sure are taking their time with this update and Safari 4 Beta is still an issue.

It's a beta so just un-install it if it doesn't work for you.

I have been using it without any issues since the beta was released as have lots of others. Yes, there are issues being discovered but that's the whole purpose of releasing the beta :)

I don't think you quite grasp the situation. With 10.5.7, Safari Beta 4 will not install on any machine. It is incompatible with the release. This will effectively end testing of the current beta, at least for those who have not installed the beta yet or need to reinstall.
