Yes his position must now be untenable with such poor sales and take up of his recent designs.

Oh, no, wait a minute...

Oh please, designing it to be thin is as easy as hell. The hard part falls to the engineers that have to make it work in said small space. He's not some mystical figure that requires worshipping.

Looks like the GTX 780 is still causing an openCL crash. However, the performance has been improved immensely in After Effects.

Avid Media Composer 6.5 is still experiencing playback issues.

Heaven scores, mildly increased.

Maybe it's just me, but on a superficial I would love Messages to look more like iOS 7, or even get its own unique style. I just think it's the only thing left that screams iOS <=6 :apple:

This lol, i have SL on HDD and Mavericks on SSD and SL still more responsive!
thats crazy. i have now downgraded on ML (i use it only because some apps works only in this ****) Craig Federighi is the worst.

It's really not all that buggy for me except the quick look issue. Obviously 10.9.1 is going to be buggier than 10.8.5 or 10.6.9

I think facetime audio is the best part of this. I love using it instead of phone calls, so much clearer. Nice to have it on my Mac now too.

Agreed. Also good for when my phone is way on the other side of the room, and I'm too lazy to get up and get it :)

Have they updated the reminders app in 10.9.2? It still screams iOS 6.

They never seem to fix anything good . . . . " General Website Compatibility, Accessibility, AutoFill, Printing and Emailing from Reader" . . oh my god how boring .....

4Kp60?

Anybody had a chance to try a 2013 rMBP or nMP + 4k monitor over ThunderBolt + this beta? Many of us are very interested to see whether:

1) 4Kp60 is enabled over ThunderBolt
2) HiDPI has been enabled similar to built-in Retina displays

If you're lucky enough to have the right hardware, PLEASE install the beta and test it for the rest of us...

Yes I do actually, since I only have two usb ports on my Air. I've connected a powered usb hub on one usb port. And in that hub, I've connected my printer, 2 external drives, keyboard and usb-thernet adapter.

Offcourse, not all of these devices are used all the time, just the keyboard and ethernet adapter. The printer is on standby I guess.

From my experience, I've noticed kernel task goes mental when watching youtube. Wether it's with Safari or Firefox. But I've almost stopped watching youtube on Safari since it lags every 10 sec, even on 720p...

But my MacBook also froze on a screensaver. I wasn't in my room for a while, the Air when to the screensaver after a few minutes, I got back it was frozen on the screensaver and the fan was blowing like crazy...

So I really can't pinpoint the problem :(

Theres also a problem with the screensaver, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't... It's like they reversed something, the screensaver will start while youtube is open (but not playing) but will almost never start when I'm not even using my laptop and it's just on the desktop.

I'm really not liking all the OSX problems, I believe Apple is too focused on the iPad and iPhone, that they're neglecting the Mac.

I have that as well, very weird. It happens when you quickly hoover over something.

I suggest you trim down the number of adapters and external equipment that you have connected unless you are using them at that time. You are treating your Air like it is a MBP. :D

:p I said I'm not using all those devices simultaneously :p

But I'll take out the printer and 2 HHDs, see if the problems still occur. Though it might be the heat thats causing problems. Since I'm using a external monitor and never touch the Air, it does sometime get dusty, keyboard and beneath it. I do use a small stand for it, but the desk is still dusty. I can't fight the damn dust XD After I clean it, it comes back so quickly.

Hope they look into the the kernel_task issues that a lot of people have trouble with. Cpu goes insane, uses 120%+, takes up all the available ram, fans go crazy and my MacBook Air freezes. Only option is to shut it off by pressing the on/off button.

I had that problem a long time ago. In my case it was related to the automatic swapping between integrated and discrete graphics. It showed up mostly when watching things in Quicktime as frequent little pauses in playback.

I switched to discrete graphics with no auto switching and it went away. Might help in your case too. Obviously they should fix that but in the interim at least it would stop the annoyance. :)

[MOD NOTE]
This thread was derailed with discussions of CPUs, and iMacs. Lets get the conversation back on track about beta 2.

Stay on topic, and the derailing posts have been removed.

Microsoft Exchange

...does anyone else notice if Microsoft Exchange support is better? I couldn't send attachments over 1 MB before the update, now I rarely have problems.

Since apple broke all usb audio devices with 10.9.1 i've been running the betas of 10.9.2 just to get it all working again and it still doesn't do it right yet.

Auto update from 10.9.0 was such a bad idea considering there is no real way to roll back the update.

I did not assume that you were using them. Being connected is enough. The process sets RAM aside for potential usage not actual usage. If you are connected to Wifi or Bluetooth, it sets aside RAM for that even if you are not using any devices that make use of it. You may not be using a device that is connected to your USB, but the OS detects it and sets aside RAM for it. If a MBA was as powerful as a MBP (with the current weight and size of the MBA), why would they sell an MBP. The Pro is a "pro" for a reason. You are using a machine designed for light internet and mail daily usage and trying to use it as a professional laptop.

Anyone have any benchmarks to see if there is any graphics performance improvements with these new drivers?

You can roll it back to 10.9.0 or earlier versions (depending on how old your mac is) if you restore from a time machine backup.

I always do a backup before and after I do any update in case I have to roll it back.

For example mavericks developer preview 6 broke airplay mirroring which annoyed me. So I submitted a bug report to apple and then rolled it back to developer preview 5 and didn't update it again until developer preview 7 came out which fixed the problem.

That's a HDMI port limitation, not a driver limitation.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008

The HDMI ports in the 2013 Mac Pro and Macbook Pro Retina are v1.4, which has a maximum refresh rate of 30hz at those resolutions.

You'll need to wait for a HDMI 2.0 port for 60hz at 4K, or just use DisplayPort.

The problem is that in OS X the MacBook Pros cannot output 4K at 60Hz from DisplayPort, while they are able to do it with all the same hardware when they do it through Windows.

As far I can see there is a improved performance from 10.9.1 on my MBP early 2011.
As for the rest, I let you know later

Alright, thanks. I did not know that. I'll only plug in the drives and printer when I actually need them.
Btw, doesn't it work the same with a MacBook Pro? If it also has the same 4gb of ram as my Air, why would it be different? Only difference is, it has one more usb port, and I think the power that port can deliver is the same amount as with a Air. ie. usb 2.0 is usb 2.0

It is the processor speed. I don't have an Air but I'm guessing that you have a 1.3Ghtz? The MBP has on the low-end model 2.3 for a non-Retina model. The Air just can't process and adjust fast enough to compensate the extra load. You can look to upgrade the RAM so you can give your processor wiggle room to adjust to bigger demands. Your machine can do what you are asking it to do, but it won't do it well. You have to pay the price for being lighter and cheaper than the pro...that price is performance.

To be honest, my nephew has a MacBook Pro and when I compare it's speed vs mine Air, my Air is much faster.

We both got the base 13'' 2011 model. Only difference is, his model is indeed clocked at 2,3 ghz with a i5 and mine is at 1,7 ghz i5. We both have 4 gb of ram. But mine does have a SSD. And with all basic tasks, my Air performs much better.
Maybe the 2,3 ghz would help with rendering a video for example. But other than that, I see no advantages to a Pro with similar specs.

But we were talking about usb and peripherals, and it seems, the Pro is nothing more "Pro'' at that departement. :p

I only wish I had chosen the 8 gb ram option when purchasing. Because now, I'm stuck at 4gb. Which is ok, but sometimes especially when I use Final Cut, I wish it had a bit more power to work with.

Other than that, don't think low of the Air, it's really just a better looking Pro. :p

Both the designers and engineers have to work equally hard to make it happen. If the designers demand an impossible design, then no engineer can fit the computer inside that design. So it's always a joint process.
