I still have an issue where iTunes always wants to ask whether to allow incoming connections when I access the iTunes Store. I removed it from the firewall as a program in the hopes that it would add it back and remember. No dice. Why does it keep asking if I always tell it allow? Ugh. :(

I was hoping they would fix that in SL. I had those problems in Leopard and it forced me to use the built in ipfw instead. Using WaterRoof I have set a start up script and have even tighter security with no nag. And it doesn't matter if a program is signed or not (Transmission had to be allowed each time I rebooted).

This is a poor excuse for innovating. I've noticed marked differences between the last update and this one. Back to same old slow Leopard again. I thought this was why we added the Snow before. Piece of crap Apple...

Slow launches, spinning color wheel, Leopard galore...

Hmm......I never had this issue in Leopard. Regardless, SL is shaping up to be rather solid.

Does anyone notice that deleting files from the desktop no longer fades the icon away as it used to in previous builds? I thought that was a nice change from Leopard, but now it just abruptly disappears!

I'm wondering too. Why would a development build not be able to update to the RTM? After all, SL development builds installed over Leopard just fine...

Read the Installation Instructions pdf included with the DMG in the Instructions. On the first page it states:

"You will not be able to upgrade from the Snow Leopard Developer Preview to the final Snow Leopard release."

Well, Apple of course wants you to buy the final version when it gets out. Otherwise all developers (and others ;)) get it for free? Doesn't make sense.

"Upgrade" being the operative word...It doesn't say "You will not be able to Archive and Install from the blah blah blah..."

What he meant is if a Developer purchases a retail copy of SL, will that Developer be able to upgrade their Preview SL to retail SL, or will they have to erase and install?

And ZooCrewMan, I just realized that. -.- That is extremely annoying that there is no clarification there...But I suppose that will work just fine since Apple doesn't say otherwise like they do about upgrading.

What are you talking about? There will be
This may not work, I did that on previous seed, it didn't work. So i did this instead.
Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/, open up your com.apple.Boot.plist
Code:
<key>Kernel</key>
	<string>mach_kernel</string>
	<key>Kernel Flags</key>
	<string>[B]arch=x86_64[/B]</string>

This might not work either, depending on what model he's using. Neither this, nor the '6' & '4' trick work for me on my 13" Unibody. At least not according to System Profiler.

Well I think in the past developers haven't been able to Archive and Install... If I'm not mistaken I think Erase and install is the only option.

Yes exactly. I'm not talking about Developers getting a free copy of SL final. The issue is whether a Developer can pop in a copy of SL final and install it over their SL developer preview without losing data.

Yep. I don't know what "Upgrade" means. Apple has never officially come out and said that the only option available is an "Erase & Install."

As an aside, dragging files from a Stack folder over a program now works again. Also navigating through list view is responsive and crisp again. Also new icons in the System Preferences for Desktop & Screen Saver, Universal Access, and (I think) Spotlight.

That's interesting. I have both MSDN and ADC memberships. All the MS retail software are available from MSDN (maybe different based on subscription level), but need the MSDN license keys. So I do get all the retail copies for free. :) For ADC membership, I like the 20% hardware discount. I just purchased my MBP 15 with a $400 discount. That's nice.

Build 10A411 Changes

A list of changes:

  • Dock Expose now previews windows from other spaces.
  • Expose's animations are very smooth now. I think they sped up the animation, so the user's perception of the OS is visually faster as well.
  • In the Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane, selecting "Change picture every..." and then "Random Order" does not select a random photo at first-- the first photo will always be selected.
  • A bug is still present where applications do not retain proper focus when activating spaces. For instance, this Safari window is in focus, and a Preference Pane is opened behind it. Start spaces-- and the pane appears on top.
  • No put back for items trashed from Dock or stacks.
  • Updated QuickTime.
  • Items can now be dragged to trash from stacks.
  • Trashed desktop items no longer fade away.

Has somebody noticed that when you delete a document using Finder, you get "put back" function from the Trash. But when you delete a document using stack, which is new function in release 10A411 you don't get the function "put back" from the Trash.

There are situations where the put back option doesn't work. Apple is aware of the issue. I filled a radar and it was closed as a duplicate.

Apple Seeds OS X Snow Leopard Build 10A411 to Developers

I've notice a slight upgrade to QuickTime Player/Pro.

when i tested out this build, I was quite impress with the noticed changes...

I really like the dock expose' (really useful)
I also like the new mechanism for stacks, it's very smooth.
so far everything was fast, launching stuff, and yeah.
but since it's beta, who knows what the final version will hold for us :p

I seriously can't wait for september, I deleted the partition with SL installed, because iLife'09 , well iMovie wasn't very co-operative with my video editing...
So i switched back to leopard...

but seriously I like what they did to the new visual styles, and I also noticed that the dock seemed' to be much crisper, and also the icons are really high quality. :apple::apple:

I'm still hoping that they give itunes a complete overhaul or create a simple mp3 ONLY player for my computer. when im working on stuff that matters, i dont want an application running in the background that has support for iTV, iPhone, ipods, itunes music store, applications and other devices. If anything, the names itunes itself has lost its meaning.
