Will they ever turn it on...?

What hardware are you running it on?

It will likely be activated once we get to the pre-RTM seeds, which are still a month or two away, I'd guess.

It's already available to some models of hardware. No doubt it'll be enabled for all capable systems by the time it hits RTM (at least I would hope so).

I'm still hoping that they give itunes a complete overhaul or create a simple mp3 ONLY player for my computer. when im working on stuff that matters, i dont want an application running in the background that has support for iTV, iPhone, ipods, itunes music store, applications and other devices. If anything, the names itunes itself has lost its meaning.

While I feel your pain, I hope you're not holding your breath.

The iTunes monster is unstoppable. There's no going back. We're not in Kansas anymore. That's no moon.

Etc., etc.

EDIT: +1 for "bloored"
Sounds like a synonym for being drunk.

Just use Quicktime. Yes it supports video but it's relatively lightweight and fast.

iTunes has become a huge brand in itself. The idea that it has lost it's meaning is nonsensical.

How come all the updates are so big? The last one was 1.3GB and seemed to introduce only a few minor cosmetic changes.

Those are not incremental ( delta ) updates because it is still developer preview and quite a few things can go wrong. Basically the updates replaces all files that have been touched since last time and you get huge sizes.

BTW 411 has changed the version of Safari to 4.0.3 so I'm guessing that Apple is really getting ready for the final release. It's still a different build from the stable release but it's no longer the older 4.0.0 release. I'm sure there are other changes as well but this is the one that I saw so far ( 10 min after installation ).

So basically it's back to what we had in Leopard

The new quicktime interface looks nice too. They seem to be using the same icons as the iPhone like the expand video to fit screen button, and the trim button.

If Perian is not working for you you can install DivX which does work 100% and allows you to open "avi files" ( MPEG-4 ).

Apparently DivX 7 also plays mkv files and it absolutely works with QT 10.

Here's to hoping for better finder intuitive use. maybe, just maybe they will catch up to windows explorer in its functionality and usability.
Please tell me they added an address bar to finder, the update is downloading now.

Dock Expose now previews windows from other spaces.

What does that mean? I tried it... don't get it..

Dang. That was the only feature I liked on Snow Leopard.

Haha yes, I'm hoping Apple fixes it, but it could be they decided not to do that since some people found this a little weird. It almost felt as if OS X was lagging while deleting the file.

Which would be?

The QuickTime interface was updated: screenshots

I think Apple moved everything in dock expose menus into one line in this build. Or is this just my imagination?

The new glossy black QTX interface is beautiful... so much better than the cheap-looking matte black. This is the real HUD/Marble/Illuminous (or whatever else it's called)!!

Please tell me they added an address bar to finder, the update is downloading now.

CMD + Shift + G is probably as close as you will get.
There is also an option to show the complete path at the bottom of windows (somewhere in the finder menus)

Should cover everything the address bar does in windows.

I believe it was a new kernel and under-the-hood changes.

I sometimes wish I had studied computer programming and languages so I could observe and play with kernels. Then I remember how much coffee I'd need in the morning to stay awake and snap back to reality. :p

Can't wait for SL to release!

MobileMe, iPhone 2.0, 10.5.x.
MobileMe got slow as hell, Activation issues, and so on. Just not enough server capacity to handle all of the traffic at once.

Well Apple are planning a new server farm aren't they?

and are running SL as the 'primary' os... there is no upgrade path from SL beta to release code. The readme is pretty clear on that topic.

Time machine, fresh install, then do the migrate thingamo same as most people would of done when they set up their SL partition.
