Can’t get this build to install on my M1 MBA. The partial update kept getting stuck “preparing”.

I blew away the option to get dev seeds, restarted, and then reinstalled the dev seed option. When I loaded software update I was offered the full 11.2 installer.

Downloaded that, started the install, and then *that* one also gets stuck preparing. I left it overnight but still no joy.

I was trying to update from the previous 11.2 release so updates had been working. Looks like I may need to restore :/

Has anyone else run into this issue?
Any way to launch it via safe mode?

Someone noted for a similar issue on previous version :
"As for me, "Safe mode" has been the remedy for this problem. As soon as MacBook starts running, switch on "safe mode" for software operation (by holding down the left "SHIFT" key until you can see on your computer screen a login box to enter a password. Afterwards, run the update Big Sur 11.1.11. installation. It has worked in my case and the issue is fixed now."

These release notes always seem too short to me, as if a 3 Gb update would only fix a handful of bugs while leaving a long list of popular ones untouched. Perhaps I'm just dreaming, but I like to think they fix more than what they say but they can't commit to saying it's 100% fixed (and we know that sometimes, what makes it to the release note is not always perfect either). I don't really understand the logic.

BUMPY RIDE that was!

Set the 11.2 RC installing.
Mac mini M1 restarted.
Screen went BANANANANNSS!! Like an old Commodore 64 game loading screen.
I left it for about 10 mins, then decided to kill the power.
Turned back on, install completed as expected. PHEW

Now the good news
  1. I can now have WIFI turned on without it making my mouse laggy
  2. I can now have my Magic Mouse and magic track pad connected without one of them becoming unusable
  3. The entire system is MUCH MUCH faster.
  4. Safari scroll lag is gone entirely.
  5. I have 2 ultra wide Red Eagles connected (one HDMI, one DP) and both appear to be doing everything they are meant to
HOWEVER
This is only after I have just booted into the new os. So now the waiting game begins to see if any bluetooth issues do crop up with usage time and to see if screens waking from long sleep are still an issue. My DP connected display always woke ok, but the HDMI one would always wake at 800x600 and I would have to change the resolution twice to get it to show up at the right res.

Also worth noting, the native resolutions are STILL NOT shown unless I OPTION + CLICK on the scaled display choice.

Also the MonitorControl app still reports not displays connected.

Overall, so far, very happy and hopeful.

If the screens stay the right res and I can finally keep wifi on again to use airdrop, that will be progress.
This level of detail is really helpful to those of us trying to decide whether to take the plunge. Thanks for taking the time to share this info about your experience.

I hope things continue to go well for you with 11.2. Whether they do or don't, I'd be grateful for an update in another day or two, or whenever you have time.

Same blue bars flashing on my M1 Mini during install. I left it for about five minutes and it rebooted into a normal install. This seems like it might be the version where Big Sur is at least useable.

I can’t not download macOS Big Sur because I don’t have enough space. I have delete old files and some pics and still not enough.

What gets me is so many of you are a pack of whinges about the software big Sur but you don’t use the beta and log any problems then come on this forum and Winge about it if you don’t Like the software go to PC and enjoy windows see how many bugs they have get a life.
Of course I don't use the beta. Whyinhell would I do that? I am not in the business of beta testing, I am in the business of using the computer to get work done.

Which is, of course, one of the reasons I won't bother with Big Sur at all before at least .6, if at all.

Is this update going to fix the iCloud Drive (Desktop & Document) synchronisation issue on M1 macbooks?
You can't turn off iCloud Drive on an M1? Hm, that would be a showstopper for my eventually getting one.

And what do you expect someone here to do? If you run your machine so tight that you can't handle downloading a 12gb file, you have much larger problems than not being able to download an installer.

If what you're whining about is that you can't install it, the same thing applies.

I spam this on every update, is the CMD + L shortcut on spotlight reinstated by any chance?

What about the screensaver bug?!?!?!?!
I'm still getting a backlit black screen instead of a screensaver.

:::EDIT::: A reboot seemed to fix this, as I came back to my M1 MBP and the screensaver was on like it should be. Stepped away and came back again, and had the backlit black lock screen with no screensaver. Reboot, rinse and repeat.

Bummer, no change for me on M1 Mac Mini for bluetooth related issues. Magic Keyboard does reasonably well but Magic Mouse 2 cuts out and back in quite often. This is after I replaced the Mac mini as well. I'll just keep using a Logitech non-bluetooth mouse for now.

What's Command, L supposed to do in spotlight? Select all the text so you can delete? If so that does occur on the build I'm using.
Bah, it's not fixed then. Typing a word and then CMD + L jumped to the word definition, if existed. Loved that feature. Thanks anyway!

I tried it in safe mode the first time it failed but I haven’t tried with the full installer. Will give that a try!
No joy with the full installer. It hangs with exactly 34 minutes to go every time no matter if I try installing it in safe mode or not. I'm trying to decide if I should back up, wipe, and install fresh right now but it's a pain in the ass with the new Apple Configurator method.

Hey,

I am sure someone has already left a comment, but is anyone else having issues with the new function keys (Spotlight, Do not Disturb, Dictation, Globe)? Used to work on official OS release but no output on Beta/RC. I did not change any keyboard settings and I also created a second admin user to test it. I still get nothing when I press. Not even an audible "action not possible" response. I already gave feedback via the assistant.

Running a base MBA M1 with RC 11.2 Build 20D53

Cheers

Luckily, I do not use those keys. I still use cmd space for spotlight so not a huge deal but still. By the way bluetooth issue for me at least seems to be gone. I do not experience intermittent connection drops. Audio does not cut out during streams (Netflix, Twitch, Youtube via Safari and Firefox) with my Airpods Pro anymore.
