I am having same problem I think it needs beta 1 then install beta 2 on top

I'm curious - those who had trouble downloading/upgrading: Were you upgrading from Beta 1 or from 10.15 Catalina? Shame so many people had issues. Mine completed downloading and installed itself while I was away from the machine and I was sure I didn't have autoinstall enabled. Oh well, it worked. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...

Ah - that issue I understand. I was offered 2 betas like that. I forget what I did but I finally managed to download and install beta 1. No problems with Beta 2. If they're going to compete like that I probably should grab another installer from the dev site next time.

Found one fix if you're getting a "network error" when trying to download and update to beta 2. If you happen to have boot security on anything other than Full, go into recovery mode and go to Utilities > Startup Security Utility. Change boot security to Full and it should start downloading again. After it installs, you can restore whatever boot security preference you had previously.

STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, ANYONE FOUND A SOLUTION??? IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING... :(

THANKS!!

Typing "softwareupdate --install 'macOS Big Sur Beta 2-20A4300b'" into terminal gave me the following message:

Failed to download & prepare update: Error Domain=SUMacControllerError Code=7722 "[SUMacControllerErrorPreflightPrerequisiteCheckFailed=7722] Failed to perform PreflightPrerequisite operation: com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.preflight.error(Preflight):MSUPreflightErrorTargetIsNotSnapshotBooted(6) | The volume can not be used because it is not snapshot booted

Thanks! This appears to have worked for me.

Also considered using gibMacOS but toggling boot security back to Full seemed easier.

Has anyone else run into an issue with Beta 2 in which MacOS is extremely slow (and I mean 2 days after upgrading) to report the correct SSD size on a Macbook Pro? I examined the storage tab in "About" and I do understand purgeable space (you don't get it back unless you actually run out of space - and no, you shouldn't pay for scam software that promises to do so). My reported remaining space after the upgrade was alarmingly low. I used the storage tab to help to conserve some space I probably should have attended to long ago, such as moving my Dropbox local files to an external drive in one example. Slowly, over 2 days, the changes I made apparently bore fruit and now I'm showing 137 GB free up from about 45GB free. I was at about 92 GB free before the upgrade to Beta 2. Yes, there are definitely differences in the way the Desktop HD icon reports free space (includes purgeable) and the way iStats/Disk Utility reports it. That doesn't concern me as much as how long it has taken for the OS to update what is being reported. I do realize that there is a lot of give and take to the way an SSD reports used/available space but this is really exceedingly slow as compared to Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur Beta 1.

I am getting this error in Terminal:

nvram: Error getting variable - 'sudo': (iokit/common) data was not found

I am trying to force the iMac Pro boot into Recovery Mode via terminal...
I didn't get the same error, but it could be that I'm already on beta 2. Can either try copy/pasting or typing it yourself. Alternatively you can try booting into recovery by restarting then holding CMD+R immediately after you hear the startup chime or see the boot logo.

Thanks will try the traditional way!

Is 20A4299v the build number for beta 2? I installed beta 2 but it says there's an update and looks like its trying to download all 9.55GB again.
