Wondering if anyone knows in music, how to force a new song to sync with iCloud music? I used to go into File/LIbrary and I could have the song on my iPad in a minute or so. For composing and mixing it is helpful
That option isn't there now?
I think it was gone in Beta 1 I just didn't notice.
Im on beta 2, otherwise this build seems much better over.

Does anyone know how to fix the messages app? I just get a blank slate with the preferences disabled. I have iCloud signed in though. There isn't an option I could fine to make it work.
Should work if you're running it on supported hardware.
iCloud login for the OS is not used for iMessage authentication. You have to log into iMessage separately.

Messages in the latest beta is a bit flakey. I've noticed that the preferences sometimes won't open (option greyed out), but it works if I pick another conversation. Odd. Also, clicking "i" by the person's name sometimes causes the app to crash.

If it's really not working, and a reboot isn't helping, then you could rename ~/Library/Messages (say to Messages_MOVED) and then try opening the app. It'll recreate the directory.

I couldn't tell you, just as I was going to dive into it, well it fixed itself. Now it works for me... Do you have other mac's not running Big Sur?

Does Dropbox / google Back & Sync work yet?

I found a dirty work-around

gibmacos

When ya run it, press C to change the catalog, then type 4. After that, press 1 and enter and it begins the download of the latest Big Sur update.

I was able to download the files, but am unable to make an installer.

Where you able to install after the download? Would you mid sharing more details of the entire process? Thanks.

Thanks never heard of this before.

It doesn't work for me, can someone please help me out? I get this error in TERMINAL:

I have had this problem only on my Mac Pro (MacPro6,1) when I launch the Messages.app it bounces once, shows the dot under the icon, then the dot goes away, and I get the error message:

View attachment 931635

Now, on my MacBook Pro (will get identifier later) 15", which is the model prior to the 16", Messages launches without any issues. It's the only thing I have had problems with testing... I will probably deep dive into this to see what else I can find...

I was able to install the update to Beta 2, without any of the issues most of the people here are experiencing. On my MacBook Pro, I had to restart, to get the update to start but after that it just went and downloaded just fine...

I am really curious if other people have experienced this issue with Messages...

I have had this issues on my mac Mini 2018 from beta 1, and today, no change.

You dont need to make an installer.

In your gibMacOS folder you will see another folder called "macOS Downloads". Open that, then open the folder "Developer", then the next folder. You will see inside of that a file called "InstallAssistant.pkg". Double click on that and let it install.

Then you go to your Applications folder and you will see now "Install macOS Big Sur Beta". Double click on that and follow the instructions.

I had to use gibmacos also. I was having the same issue mentioned in the release notes and the work around didn't work

On beta 1, Chrome was crashing for me every 10 minutes or so. Let's see how beta 2 works.

Another thing I noticed is that no matter how many times you order the menu bar icons, they reset after restart. Anyone else have that issue?

Mine reset the order on first boot after the beta installed, but I've just rebooted now to test and luckily my menubar icons are where they were before the reboot.

The one issue, and it's a carry-over from beta 1, is that the spotlight icon shows when set not to, and doesn't show (after a reboot) when set to display.

FYI. Many of the problems you encountered in the first beta may carry over to this beta.

I ultimately decided to do a complete format / partition and reinstalled MacOS Big Sur from recovery. Doing that eliminated a TON of tedious issues (such as extensions not loading and approvals in security not registering.)
