Running strong on my original 2008 aluminum MacBook. This thing just won't die.

high five, although I didn't upgrade because I am broke. 7 years ago I thought surely in 7 years time I will be rich enough to at least by myself a $2000 laptop. I guess not...

Might sound weird, but I am hoping this can fix my fan issue. Ever since I installed 10.11.2, I have been getting a weird clicking noise from my fan. Seems really odd. Anyone else have a similar issue? Is it crazy to think it could potentially be a software issue?

if i were you, you should open it up if possible. sounds like there might be something there

I never see the loading bar in the indexing box, but that's the least of my worries. Apple ignored my reports about MAIL corruption, Bluetooth crashes that required shutting the machine down. So what did Apple do in response to my constant complaints. My Apple ID no longer works correctly. Sure, I file reports but they fall on deaf ears. No response. AND, publicly as announced here, they renounced any support for Mac models including mine that are in the system list for Macs certified to run El Capitan! If that's not lame I don't know what is.
It looks like I'm going to have to do another complete reinstall again from Mavericks.

THANK YOU MAVERICKS! Without lowly Mavericks, I would have probably lost THOUSANDS of important emails.

This update has solved nothing about my Mac not be certified with my Apple ID either nor does it fix any mail problems.

Looks like I'll start from scratch all over again. Apple has really let Mac OS go. It's sad really. And worse yet, they don't seem to care. :-(

Anybody got that problem, that the Finder is crashing and can't be restarted? Only hard shutdown :(
presumably when waking from sleep/hibernation the finder crashes and noticed everytime when another update hit the mac app store - every process is down except for Finder - which is stated with "application not responding".

I've not run into any of those issues. But that means nothing, as every machine is different.

I spent 10 years doing tech support on Macs. I'm quite sure the fan noise has nothing to due with your OS.

If your Mac is still under warranty, I'd suggest you call or visit the nearest Apple store to get it fixed.

If your Mac is not under warranty, I recommend you visit https://www.ifixit.com/Search?query=replace+fan.
They have parts for Macs and iDevices all the way back to 2005 (and possibly beyond).

They also have handy-dandy tool kits for safely opening your Mac AND both video and printable detailed how-tos to help you diagnose and fix your machine.

I didn't think so, but wanted to get some advice. It is not under warranty, but I am going to the apple store this afternoon for them to take a look at it.

Yes, I tried, but they use these proprietary screws now that I don't have a tool for. I am just going to bring it into the store for them to fix. I don't see it being anything major. I just found it odd that it happened once I installed the beta before this one.

Apple please fix the problems we're having with external monitors not waking. I have to shut down my Mac Pro every night because the screen won't come on otherwise. And when are you going to finally introduce Apple 4K/5K monitors?

This has been driving me crazy as well, but this beta appears to fix the issue.

I think people only say how long it took to download so they can boast about their connection speeds.
I pay comcrap a lot of money for the superfast turbo speeds, but in actuality I feel like I am trying to drink a milkshake through a cocktail straw, so I never talk about my downloads -- its painfully embarrassing.

Yes I have the same problem , also connecting to my NAS via finder is almost unusable. I can only get it working by using "connect to server" instead.

I think your fan is going to be fixed if you open the damn thing and see with your own eyes what's clicking and why. Waiting for a software patch to fix a fan hardware issue... I rest my case.

Nope......... USB (sound input) and RJ45 ports still not working or very flakey. Stick to what's not broken i.e. 10.10.5!!

not in my experience. TBH, el cap .0 was better for me than yosemite .5, just minor annoyances.

Apple Menu --> About this Mac --> System Report --> Extensions

Anything AMD will give you the AMD display driver version and anything GeForce for nVidia. You want the full 'get into string' data, not just the number from the version column.

For example, El Cap currently ships with the 310 series of nVidia driver, which is about 2 years old and the same version that shipped with Yosemite.
AMD drivers are only a few weeks old - 19 Nov 2015.

I had no idea and only limited experience with fan issues. I tried opening it up and taking a look, but do not have a tool for their proprietary screws. Apologize if it bothers you to ask a stupid question, but I just didn't know since it started when I installed 10.11.2 beta 1, thought that was possible more than a coincidence.

This to me means that the changes are just too embarrassing to list.

I had the same thought but I try to be more optimistic (which is very hard given the number of bugs in 10.11.2).

Probably it's a placebo update, will be released for the sake of releasing but not fixing any longstanding issues...

I'm afraid that is going to happen. At this rate I'm fairly certain it will take at least 10.11.4 or .5 before Apple fixes Time Machine failure to restore files that I reported during beta testing...

I just hope some good changes are made for disk utility

One can hope but I'm fairly certain hell will freeze over before that happens... :(

I had a similar situation and I didn't lost any emails because I tested 10.11 on external drive and stopped using it moment I noticed the Mail problem.

I'm going to stay in Mavericks for the foreseeable future because 10.10 and 10.11 have no benefits for me and both contain too many bugs and baffling design decisions.

It seems certain Apple no longer cares about OS X.

Aha, you mean the "core drivers" is two years old. Because the graphics driver Kernel Extensions often gets updated (i.e. a new version number) with every OS X update.

nVidia release their own drivers available through a convoluted search sequence on their website.
AMD users are SOL, however.

So, since I'm running the Nvidia Web Drivers with the GTX 970 I have in a Mac Pro (Mid 2010), does it mean I'm not using 310 series of drivers? I could of course check myself, but not at the compiter right now.

Edit:

Aha, interesting. I’m running running OS X 10.11.2 and If I compare the OS X built-in ”GeForce” kext with the Nvidia provided ”GeForceWeb” I get this:

Get Info String: GeForce 10.8.14 310.42.15f01
Get Info String: GeForceWeb 10.9.14 346.03.04f02

So definitely seems to be newer drivers if using the ”NVIDIA Web Driver”.

And this is exactly what's so sad about Apple's inability to put out OS's that "just work" any more. As much as I dislike Windows, both Windows and Linux run on a far wider range of hardware than OS X and they don't seem to have the problems Apple has on its much narrower (and tightly controlled) range of hardware with simple things like mail, USB, and network connections (all of which use long-standing international standards in their hardware and software interfaces).
[doublepost=1452186310][/doublepost]I see a lot of "I hope they fixed X" in this thread and very little actual information about things that have or have not been fixed. Any actual experience with this beta release other than how long it took to download? Or maybe the lack of input from people running this beta is due to the fact that the new beta has broken the ability to connect to the Internet??? Just saying ...

How about they fix the wonderful glitch that affects USB Optical Drives that while ripping your music or movies over, causes them to shut off and fail? I moved back to Yosemite to be able to digitize my audio and video collection.
I think the issue you describe extends beyond optical drives. I had FireWire harddrives on the Thunderbolt port and USB harddrives also do this. My guess is ElCap changed the power level parameters to the ports, and certain activity causes the power levels to spike and drop the interface.

Issues I'm having on 10.11.2: MBA - wifi drop outs, airdrop doesn't work all the time, connecting to OS X Server (latest version) to an AFP share is very spotty at best

iMac 5K: Wake from sleep issues, bluetooth disconnects
