if previous betas are anything to go by id say it won't be properly ready till at least late October, November possibly even next year

• Installed Mavericks right away.
• Skipped Yosemite altogether due to the Wifi issues.
• El Cap right away.
• Don't remember about Sierra, probably waited 'til x.2
• HS my MBP shipped with
• Mojave right away due to HS kernel panics.

This one, there's enough differences that I'm kinda feeling like waiting until x.2 or x.3.

The last 4 macOS updates were released in Sept. The 2 before that were Oct and 2 before that July. That's when Apple started the annual updates rather than sporadic.

Apple today seeded the sixth beta of macOS 10.15 Catalina for testing purposes, more than two weeks after seeding the fifth macOS Catalina beta and over a month after the new Mac operating system update was first unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

The new macOS Catalina beta can be downloaded using the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences. As with all new betas, macOS Catalina should not be installed on a primary machine because it is early release software and has bugs.

macOS Catalina eliminates the iTunes app, splitting it into Music, Podcasts, and TV apps. The Apple Music and Apple Podcasts apps are available now, while the Apple TV app is coming later this year.

The three new apps offer similar functionality to iTunes, but are split up by feature. iOS device management is still available on the Mac, but it's now done through the Finder rather than iTunes.

With a new Sidecar feature, you can turn your iPad into a second display for your Mac with just the click of a button. The Apple Pencil works with Sidecar, so you can turn your iPad into a drawing tablet in apps like Photoshop and Illustrator.

Your Apple Watch can be used to approve security prompts for passwords and other info in macOS Catalina, and Macs with a T2 chip now support Activation Lock, making them more secure. There's a new Find My that brings the Find My Mac app to the Mac for the first time and even lets you track your devices when they're offline, or, in the case of notebooks, closed.

Screen Time is available on the Mac as well as iOS devices, and Project Catalyst, a new Apple initiative, will let developers easily port their iPad apps over to the Mac to increase the number of Mac apps available.

There's a new Photos interface that surfaces your best photos organized by day, month, or year, there's a new start page in Safari, Mail has new tools for muting email threads and blocking senders, and the Reminders app has been overhauled. 32-bit apps no longer work in macOS Catalina, which is something to be aware of before installing the beta.

Beta 6 (19A536g) works very well...

- 25 min. from download to back into Catalina on my Mac Pro (with a lot of programs etc. installed),
- Boots from chime to login in 22 seconds,
- No problems at all, but then again, I have had almost no problems with the last 3 betas.

Early 2015 rMBP here. No way am I waiting 30 hours to install. That is beyond INSANE. For what?

I haven't gotten on the beta for this reason alone. And I WFH mostly so that down time is not possible for me and cannot work.

If anyone else has a 2016 MBP with Touch Bar please confirm if you got it to install and within a normal person's lunch hour, LOL

It feels like it's getting there.

Current issues I still have:

- Archive Utility still crashing whenever a zip file is opened, and unzipping never completes. Can anyone else confirm - it's happening on both of the machines I have on the beta.

- Continuity / Handoff / App Watch unlock still not working on frontmost logged-in profile when using Fast User Switching ... but this has been a bug throughout High Sierra and Mojave too, with no indication when it will be fixed from Apple Support.

Fixed for me:

- Messages crashes
- Apple News not showing all content, with endless spinner
- Music navigation bugs, as mentioned in release notes.

... will add any other bugs I find

Watch unlock and sidecar working fine with Apple Pencil.

Seems like only the newer MacBooks are affected by the absurdly long install times. My 2012 MBP installs the betas just fine and I’ve never had an install go over 5 hours.

Well they seem to have fixed it in this build, but the previous two builds had absurd install times that seemed to affect newer MacBooks (based on what I've seen in threads and replies to beta announcement threads).

Yes. All CC applications are working besides Adobe DC. They are still tweeting that app. QuickTime is another app that will not record audio when making a video. Still degraded according to the notes.

Mine got that bug after installing the previous beta and was still there after installing this one.

However, I then deleted every "ichat" file in ~/Library/Preferences and it's fixed it for me, without losing any settings either.

Yeah. QuickTime still runs 32 bit and is in need of a overhaul. Not too sure if they will stay with QuickTime moving forward or make a new and improved app.

Books still eternally as for password. eGPU has a few more "Psychedelic" screens, but still have to disconnect to boot.

A lot of people don’t want Google to see everything you do. Chrome is a giant privacy disaster, even if you’re not logged in.

And Firefox really isn't that bad, even if Chrome maybe faster in some artificial benchmarks, you won't notice that in real life usage.

First smooth install after two dramatic beta releases. No need for a hard reset after installation like last two times and install within half an hour. MBP13 Early 2015 on public beta. Now see if Photos no longer freezes my machine when Idle for a while.
