I had an issue previously where I was not given the option to "move to trach" when deleting files in the TV app. This update has fixed that. Now yo go through and clean up my drive.

Is Sidecar functional yet? It's worthless on 12.0.1.
I used to have issues with the virtual menu bar, it seems to be more reliable now.
However, there's some colour distortion going on.

Let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to check.

Got issues with AirPods and Beta 3. Did not have it on Beta 1 or Beta 2.
What kind of issues and which airpods?
My airpods 2 does not switch automatically between iPhone and Macbook with beta 3.
PS: Is there any way to downgrade to beta2? how?

Not running the betas and Monterey is stable for me so far, but I wanted to add my voice to the disquiet re. Apple’s software quality. The Mx memory leaks are particularly concerning.

This seems to be on a downward trajectory with seemingly no recognition or contrition from the senior leadership there.

With Apple being famously opaque, it’s hard to know what’s going on though.

However, they seem to have forgotten the feature that Apple used to be famous for: ‘it just works’.

(ok I know that Apple did not have a mythical bug-free past, but I’d contend that my point still stands).

Do the engineering teams want to pause to optimise and fix bugs? (engineers usually do).

Or are they lashed to the mast by marketing, who need a ‘narrative’ of features for WWDC in case people en-mass migrate to Android/Windows?

At least though, on MacOS we can revert to an earlier - more stable - version of the OS (though it’s not exactly easy). With iOS & iPadOS - no such luck
There's always been all kinds of issues for 40 years.... mostly "It just works" is what people experienced relative to Windows.

Anybody experience the screen colors going crazy - everything turning red, green, purple and basically unreadable, after installing B3? I restarted and the screen would be normal but eventually (several minutes) turn back to the colors being messed up. I rolled back to B2 and no issues.

There is a bug in 12.1 beta3 that messes up color gamma table manipulation and all software relying on this. So if you use apps like f.lux, MonitorControl (in software dimming mode) etc. screen colors will be messed up. This affects M1 machines for sure, I don't know about Intel. There are other display related issues as well (menu transparency effects have subtle graphical glitches for example).

Thanks, that makes sense - I have Monitor Control installed, as well as DataColor Spyder calibration utility which probably also relies on the gamma table. I will just stick with B2 until this is (hopefully?) resolved in B4.

The most annyoing thing about Monterey is Apple Music popping up each time I plug in bluetooth headset. You can't get rid of it.

In case anyone's runs into the same issue that I had where the update wasn't showing up in Software Update – I downloaded the full installer from this website, installed it to an external USB drive, booted from it and installed it that way.

Some bugs present in beta3:

New bug:
  • Display gamma table operations (this manipulates the displayed colors) are totally broken in this beta. This affects apps like MonitorControl (in software dimming mode), flux, Lunar etc.
Existing bugs still present:
  • Virtual display mirroring when the virtual display is the mirror main still breaks sleep (affects Sidecar, Airplay mirroring, BetterDummy, DisplayLink etc).
  • Spaces swiping + hotkeys still do not work properly on extended mirrored screens.
  • The AirPods Pro cutout issue some M1 users are experiencing on Monterey is still happening
These might be low level issues, but still patiently hope for a fix. :)
How about magic mouse 2 after sleep: is it smoothly?

i took a time machine backup prior to installing the beta profile and after this crappy beta gimping my trackpad i went to do a time machine recovery and it doesnt work. the drive pops up and i go to unlock it and it just disappears. wth apple?

And nope, doesn't fix the USB issues. Takes 15-60 seconds to mount a disk. FWIW, it's much longer for APFS drives (metal HFS+ mount faster than SSD APFS), and even longer if they're encrypted.

Performance is hugely variable - from 100mb/s to 600mb/s looks like it varies based on what port things are plugged in.

And some drives work with USB 3.2 cables but not with TB 3 cables, but other drives work with the exact same TB3 cable. All of this is new with the M1/Monterey vs Intel/Big Sur

Disk utility takes forever to populate (multiple minutes)

I hope to hell it's not hardware.....

Based on the number of incidents reported on both M1 and Intel, it's most likely a Monterey issue.
