And the true beauty of the 6s was that I could use wireless when I wanted to and wired when I wanted to, with ease. I don’t like wired headphones at the gym; no problem. If I wanted to really listen to something I’d plug in my Sennheisers; no problem.

Everybody make it sound like you have to choose, with the 6s you didn’t need to.

Airpod max’s are only wireless and do not work wired, the port is for charging only.

The AirPod Max can indeed be used in "Wired Mode" with an optional Lightning to 3.5 mm Audio Cable

To connect to the in-flight entertainment system on a plane, plug a Lightning to 3.5 mm Audio Cable into your AirPods Max to use them in wired mode.

Yep this is totally convenient on my $1000 phone.

Can't wait for the vanilla iPad to lose it's jack and I gotta start doing this crap with it too.
Dang that's old skool

If true, then chances are Spotify will also have a boost in audio quality??? I want to think this anyway, since i've ditched Apple Music for a while now.

What are you doing to/with them? I carry mine in my pocket all of the time and never had a single issue
Absolutely nothing. They've been in my pocket and the speakers keep dying as I was using them. I had to get a pair a warranty replacement back in 2020, and then the ANC started having issues. Then I started having pairing issues, and then I started hating the feel of them in my ears. Yeah...I learned in the span of a year how much I hate AirPods.

My mates in the PCMR Discord's Mac channel had to have their pairs of AirPods Pro replaced THREE TIMES in the span of a year because of how easily they kept breaking. Looking around online there's so many stories of AirPods Pros breaking so easily.

So yeah...needless to say I'm not doing AirPods again lmao. Switched to wired overear headphones, and I've been so much happier. Best part is unlike AirPods, THEY ACTUALLY SUPPORT LOSSLESS AND DON'T RUN OUT OF POWER.

This is why I keep saying #BringBackTheHeadphoneJack. We gave wireless a try, now it's time to go back to practicality.

I’ve reverted back to the good old days by carrying a separate DAP with me when I travel. My Fios M11 Plus LTD sounds great paired with my Meze Rai Penta IEMs. Even if Apple brought back the jack, they still wouldn’t have the audio horsepower to feed ultra high rez content. And unless their Bluetooth codecs include LDAC, they won’t get close on that, either.

Apple appears to be preparing for future devices with Bluetooth 5.2 support, according to a filing in the Bluetooth SIG products database earlier this month. Among other possibilities, this could serve as evidence of future AirPods Pro with LE Audio support.

Apple's filing references a Bluetooth 5.3 host subsystem that is likely intended for future products. However, in actuality, the filing likely refers to Bluetooth 5.2, as the Bluetooth versions listed in Apple's filings in the database are often one version number higher than the version that ends up being supported on a device, for reasons unclear.

For example, the Beats Studio Buds are listed with Bluetooth 5.3 when they actually support Bluetooth 5.2, according to reviews of the headphones, while many iPhone and iPad models are listed with Bluetooth 5.1 despite supporting Bluetooth 5.0.

With all of that confusion surrounding version numbers aside, Apple adopting Bluetooth 5.2 would be especially beneficial for AirPods, as the specification includes support for LE Audio with several improvements to wireless audio streaming.

LE Audio is part of the low-energy Bluetooth LE standard. According to The Verge, benefits of LE Audio for wireless headphones like AirPods could include improved audio quality, longer battery life, the ability to connect more than two pairs of AirPods to a single iPhone, and the ability for each individual left and right AirPod to have its own Bluetooth connection to an iPhone to prevent desynchronization during audio playback.

In July, the Bluetooth SIG said it anticipates availability of products with support for LE Audio to ramp up by the end of 2022. Apple is expected to launch second-generation AirPods Pro by the end of the year, but it remains to be seen if they support Bluetooth 5.2 or LE Audio. It also remains to be seen if Apple would add LE Audio support to the Beats Studio Buds with a firmware update given those earbuds already support Bluetooth 5.2.

Macrumors editors heavily slacking here.

Bluetooth LE isn’t the big thing with Bluetooth 5.2, the hardware and ver will support 900kbps dat rate for Hi-Res Audio!!

That’s the sweet honey stuff we’re wanting to see and use!

Lol but where?

Many MANY android phones have lost their 3.5mm headphone Jack including gaming phones too!
Yeah. Everybody’s concerned about camera quality, no one is concerned with audio quality. It’s so weird that it’s a niche thing to care about. Everyone is good with good enough.

Yes I am waiting for new Air Pods Max before I jump, even with the sales on the current model.

That will happen by 2023 thanks to the EU, though I would not at all be surprised to see 2022 Air Pods Pro launch with Lightning and then Apple offer a USB-C charging case for $99+ next year for those who do not wait until it becomes the default (which I am considering doing).

More and more high-end Android phones are also dropping their audio jacks...
I really hope EU mandates that all phone manufacturers make one small phone (iPhone Mini size) there is market for small phones but manufacturers don't make them becasue they have to sell it for low price.
EU should also mandate that all phone manufacturers sell at least one model with LED display which would be cheaper.
OLED with 120HZ is a gimmik to just increase price.
EU should set the price of each electronics gadget to make sure that technology is affordable for every one.

You upgraded the iPhone 6S 3 weeks before Apple announces new one?

Also, headphone jack is done. Get a proper wireless headphones and move on OR get a dongle. Apple is done with 3.5 and so should you. Simple as that

I had the 6s until a week ago, but because it won’t receive updates anymore it was time to move on.

The best and most expensive iPhone is all about camera. And I’m not that fond of mobile photography; it’s fine most of the time, great because it’s always with you, but not my thing. I like big sensor cameras.

I would like it if they release a music centric iPhone; iPhone M or iPhone Touch or something. Give it a simple camera that does not protrude and give it a 3,5mm headphone jack. I would love that. Apple has always been good with sound technology and I don’t want to go google.

The AirPods Pro is a such a great device. I rarely go anywhere without them.
It annoys me that I had to get a 2nd pair after the 1st lasted barely 2 years, and today like so many times I’ve wished the noise canceling would be a lot more effective. Nevertheless, I have to agree they are very handy and perhaps indispensable for me also.

I have Airpod Pro and I still end up using wired headphones (with the mac/iPhone onboard mic) for FaceTime calls. This is why:

Notice the 12,216 people that say "I have this question too"...

I just wish you could switch the iPhone to use the onboard mic instead of the Airpod mic on demand. Currently, you have to SharePlay some music at which point you get an option to switch the mic input for better quality.
As much as I enjoy this product, I have to strongly agree with this … along with 12,000 others apparently. It’s a travesty how poor call quality is on them, so frustrating.
