I got a question...if I walk into an AT&T store on the 25th, obviously when they won't have any phones, would I be able to order one and have it delivered to me as soon as they are available? Or would they not even fill the order if they don't have the inventory?

You see now this is what really pisses me off.

At 4AM EST I was on the Apple Store website trying to place my preorder. At 7Am EST I was still on the Apple Store website trying to place my preorder. I must have tried to place a preorder at least 150 times, all with no avail. I throw in the towel to come back later, and this is what I get.

I can't believe Apple.

Seriously, some of you spent all day trying to order a phone?? Really? Wow.

Some of y'all really should think about your priorities. It's a phone...not much different to the one you already have.

The ones getting upset, I'd like to thank you. You've had me smiling all day as I've read about your anguish.

Its lulzy because it took me 5 minutes TOTAL to reserve 2 phones on 2 accounts through the Apple Store app today. :D

Um no, it should pretty much say 'in progress' until its shipped.

the only reason i'm questioning it is because i didn't receive any confirmation email from AT&T... it does say "qty ordered" but still

does everyone else's look like this?

I ordered at 2AM PST from AT&T, one hour after pre order went live. My Order Status looks exactly like that and I have still not gotten an email confirmation.

I wish mine looked like that. I too ordered online at AT&T, and I received a confirmation page and an order #, but still no email. When I check the order status online I get this:

I've emailed AT&T to see what the true status of the order is, but it makes me very nervous that they're going to come back to me and tell me that I have no order. I spent five hours yesterday trying to place my order...if I suddenly now have to wait until July 6ish to get my order, I will not be a happy camper. Apple and AT&T really did not plan this out well AT ALL.

Pretty disappointed in both AT&T and Apple. I tried all day but couldn't complete the order. Given the response, I think I'll just sit this one out for a couple weeks.

Seeing how this was ATT highest single sales day in its history, not sure any company could have been ready for the volume they got. I reserved one in the morning, but pre-ordered on at about 7:30 last night with no issues.

I too ordered at 2am PST from AT&T got the same as you plus my CC was also charged too.. And like you no email...

P.S. Also says under my account for upgrade "You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing. Additional discounts may be available on 06/16/2011" iPhone Upgrade
You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing at a participating retail sales location. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 06/16/2011" before it said 01/01/10.. I started my account on 12/31/08...

The way I see it, the activation nightmare on the 24th should be a distant memory by then.

I surprisingly got an order through on the Apple Store pretty late in the day (around 7 pm PST, though I did make three tries and wasn't sure if any went through until I called Amex to verify that one of the charges had been authorized -- I got my confirmation email from Apple about 3 hours later)

But all that to say, I have the same exact concerns about activation when I get my phone delivered on the 24th. If it was such a mess with AT&T's servers today for the pre-sale, won't it be just as bad when activation time rolls around? I mean I'd guess less volume since not all the traffic today ended up in iPhone sales... but not very confidence building.

This demand for the new iPhone is amazing. I don't agree with what Gizmodo did but can't help think it has helped fuel the demand. It wasn't just SJ's keynote that's created this frenzy.

does "in progress" just mean that the order is placed?

If you click on "in progress" it shows this info..

In Progress: Our warehouse is still processing this item for shipment.

Canceled: This item has been canceled and will not be shipped.

Partially Shipped: Some of the items have shipped. If an item is on backorder, an amount will appear in the Qty Backordered column.

Shipped: Our warehouse has shipped this item.

they already come activated sort of speak. you just have to register it with your itunes which is somewhat another activation but like a two second one a lot lot different then normal traffic on a website :S. and who cares at least we have the iphone by that point haha

so i'm guessing as long as it says "in progress" then i'm good.. I really don't trust AT&T though after reading that article about the security breach in Gizmodo...

Quote: "At this point, I can say that the system that AT&T uses to send automated orders to be processed is as of this very moment down completely. Our facility is unable to process any orders by phone or by automation."

doesn't instill allot of confidence AT&T :(

Too bad for those who like to get in line at an Apple store to buy their phones ... or good news for that gang of thieves that likes to break into the warehouse where the phones are waiting shipment.

Yesterday sucked. I was up at 5am and no preorder. I have a reserve at least. Will get there about 4am...hope that's early enough. I guess this was the hot phone. First phone waaaay too expensive....3G...many new owners but many kept their first phone....3gs... 3g's didn't bother to upgrade...now with the iPhone 4...to me it's such an improvement that anyone with an iPhone will want to upgrade to this.

I hear ya. sucked big time. I figured since it seemed there were server problems maybe today would be easier. not the case.

I have one reserved at the Apple store and got an email, but don't have an appointment time. It just says to pick up by the end of the day. Do I have to stand in line like all the other schmucks or do I have any priority with a reservation?

You'll be standing in line with the schmucks who also preordered. Last year they had two lines, and the people that preordered went ahead of anyone who didn't. There was still a good hour wait for the people who preordered.
