Just wondering, are they selling them in-store day 1 too?

Yes the stores will have stock...not much though.

I think they lasted this long because the preordering was just thrown onto us. I like when they give us a week to prep. That's when I usually sell my old one to subsidize the cost of the new one.

I thought so too but I bet they made a lot more than the last launch considering how many they sold in the last quarter alone.

I have no inside information at all, but if i were to guess:

Based on the fact that they are (still?) rolling out to so many more countries next week, and how many they sold last quarter...

I bet they haven't sold out yet. I think some models might be low, but the fact they all have shifted back is more indicative of delivery issues. I think it might be their ability to move these things around the planet that is being taxed.

*I am preparing to ship, myself. Smart cover arrived today.

Germany: shipping in 2-3 weeks

This is a great example of why you should have a decision made within 20 minutes of it being out in the store..:)

I made my decision within 20 minutes. Took me about two and a half hours of hitting 'refresh' to execute that decision though...

mine says shipped?
altho I think that may just have to do with the fact I requested it to be rerouted to my hotel when it ships (stupid last minute 2 week business trip)

Yours has a question mark asking if it was shipped?

Odd

Mine is preparing for shipment. Hoping to flip the #beep-#!

Does anyone think that there will be stock available in NYC 22-29th March? Im visiting then and was planning on picking one up but beginning to wonder if there will be any in stock. I did look into preordering and picking up from the store but it seems you nee a US credit card :(

Disappointed with lack of SIRI and more memory

:( We've had our iPad 2 a couple of months now but were prepared to upgrade. I'm not doing it because the iPad 3 isn't an "iPad 3" plus it doesn't even have Siri or more memory.

We enjoy Siri on our iPhone 4s and see no reason why Apple didn't include it on the new iPad model. It seems like every hardware release includes upgraded memory options. Certainly Apple could have offered 128gb or even 256gb on this new iPad. We'll wait for the next release before getting our second iPad.

 NOW, where is the next MacPro computer? We've got cash-in-hand to get a new one with faster everything. we've got 32gb RAM and six internal drives in ours and it's just not fast enough for photo editing.

I almost ordered last night, but waited until today. *sigh* Like someone else said, I'm surprised the first batch lasted as long as it did.
Oh, well. At least it won't be too long of a wait! :)

Hah, that's funny because I just ordered late last night at about 2:30am, almost put it off until today :) Said it would be available for in-store pickup on the 16th, we'll see. I also went for the $100 AppleCare+ this time, maybe I feel less lucky the older I get.

Possibly not a "Sell Out", but instead a "Ship Out"...

Has anyone thought of the possibility that they aren't actually "sold out" for the March 16th delivery date, but instead have just run out of space to ship them? I know it comes as a surprise to some of you, but there are only so many planes flying from China in the span of a week and only so much cargo space on those planes. It very possibly could be that the reason orders are now for a ship by March 19th date is that the cargo shipments are already full up to that date. Just something to think about. We're talking tens if not hundreds of thousands of units for the launch date of Mar 16th, not to mention the shipments that have to supply the retail stores starting on that date too. No wonder they are waiting a week for international sales... Even if they stockpiled a few million iPads for release, they can't ship them all at one time!!

Mine showing shipped as well. Hadn't planned on getting one but got a $500 bonus at work like a week before announcement. :)

Btw, anyone ever see what that new accessory was? It was a new part number that was gonna be like 29 or 39 bucks. Haven't been able to find anything about it.

just placed my order 6 months no interest an 2% cashback  march 19 shipping date

Still processing but hey, they shipped my smartcover! woohoo. As long as it's at my door on the 16th like everyone else, I'm ok. I placed the order the moment the store was back online and then went buggy for everyone.

That turned out to be an Apple Digital AV Adapter (Part# MD098ZM), according to the 9to5 guys.

haha no, my bad, it says shipped, I was just confused as to why so early, forgot they used standard shipping and not 2 day or overnight (spoiled by amazon prime)

Hopefully by the 29th there should be supplies. With the iPhone 4S it was a zoo for weeks, though. Unfortunately, all the NYC stores are packed with tourists, so whatever is there may be snapped up quickly. Check Apple's retail site on the 16th to see if they do a "reservation" system like they did with the iPhone 4S, though.

If you can make it to one of the New Jersey stores (you'd need a car as none are near convenient public transportation), you'd have a better chance.

The German apple store is already up to 2 - 3week delay for all WiFi models.

I understand the AppleCare for the iPhone and obviously a higher end machine but don't see the need as much for the iPad. My parents have had their iPad1 for now 2+ years and have never come close to dropping it (seems like the biggest need for AC for the iPhone). I've had a HP TouchPad for the last 8 months and again haven't seen a situation arise where I've put the TP in danger.

I'm sure some need it if it's their main machine but for others I feel it's probably not needed.

I'd say, 'Ships on March 16' could mean
Delivers on March 28 if it follows the launch/delivery time.
Once sales open in a week to 15 more countries it could be longer. I do think they reserve product for each launch, no matter what is happening in earlier launches. Last year Spple did delay the planned launches overseas due to scarcity.

Preordered mine with custom engraving on launch day at 12:45 PST and it shipped at 5:30 PM the same day :)
