Following the lead of international pre-orders, new orders for the iPhone 4S made through Apple's U.S. online store are now listed with shipping estimates of 1-2 weeks, indicating that the door has closed on the opportunity for customers to pre-order the device through Apple for launch day delivery.

Demand for the iPhone 4S appears to be very strong, with AT&T having reported that it alone had taken 200,000 orders in the first 12 hours of availability. Apple's online store struggled to keep up with the traffic as pre-orders went live, with company eventually resorting to offering order temporary reservations as connections to carriers' systems to verify eligibility and service plans became overwhelmed. Users who received reservations from Apple in the first few hours of availability have until 5:00 PM Pacific Time on Saturday to return and complete their orders before losing their priority standing.

The iPhone 4S will launch next Friday, October 14th in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

UHH..UHH...Well, the iPhone 4 sold out in like 5 hours but this one took like 2 hours longer. Yeah! So that means people don't like the iPhone 4S! Yeah! That's it! Haha! DROID! woot!

Hey did you hear? You can still preorder on Apple's website, but you have to wait two weeks to get it! Last year, you couldn't preorder after the first day! The iPhone 4S is a JOKE! People hate it!

I can't wait to hear the haters spin this, haha.

There is already a thread here where one nutcase says the launch was a failure because it sold out and Apple was not able to keep up with demand...

Another genius who never took a class that explained supply and demand...

I guess that would make the HP tablet a success since they made 800,000 and only sold 20,000.... Plenty of them left in inventory.....

so total, how many iphone 4s' were preordered across carriers?

My guess: A record number.

It seems to be about that time in the mobile industry cycle when a lot of people who bought Android phones and are getting sick of them, are moving to iPhone.

Yes, some people move from iPhone to Android, but I bet anyone that the numbers are vastly in favor of people moving TO iOS, not the other way around. I say this because of people I know doing just this -- normal people, not the extreme tech geeks who want the "biggest specs."

Can we still buy one in the store on launch day? (Assuming we stand in line, of course.)

I haven't seen anything about buying in the stores, but perhaps that's a given. No sure.

I'm happy I'm in this first batch.

Usually I'd wait a week but with the iPhone waiting a week, is asking to wait at least a month.

No ones going to buy the 4S, It's stupid, it has a small screen. . . .

99.9% sure yes. I'll be at my local store around midnight, hopefully somewhere near the front of the line.

That’s easy: sure, thousands of people are snapping up this phone, but they’re all wrong! You see, it’s an all-new phone, yes, but it doesn’t have a new shape! What are people thinking, settling for that? :)

Wow, glad I got my 32GB order in early. Can't wait for this to be delivered ;)

Having done it four times now, the answer is yes, if you get there early enough. If you are going to a "mall store" Apple Store, I suggest getting there up to 3 hours early, that is to say, if they go on sale at 8am, get there at 5am. You will most likely get your choice of phones if you take this approach.

This year, I pre-ordered via AT&T. I'm getting too old for that line crap! ;) In all seriousness, the line thing is actually kind of fun, and I reckon that this year, given Steve's passing, it will be unique. I'll probably stop by just to check it out. With my 4S that the postal service delivered. *grin*

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

A lot of people were criticizing the iPad, when it was initially introduced, stating it's an iPod on steroids but look at it now. I think iPhone 4s is still gonna sell strong like all other devices if not better.

It took Apple longer this time, more stock maybe?

LOL probably but how about the obvious?

In addition to being able to order via Apple and AT&T directly, this is the first time on launch day of the new device that BOTH other major US carriers are also taking orders for it directly.

More vectors for people to order through.

And yes, most likely they have more units on-hand this time than any previous iPhone release.
