Getting one for my wife. I don't care how long I have to wait. The phone is really nice. All my Android toting tech buddies have been burned by the Google OS devices (buggy, malware, and fragmented). Hence, my next phone will be an iPhone as well. I've been with RIM for too long.

I can't wait to hear the haters spin this, haha.

That’s easy: sure, thousands of people are snapping up this phone, but they’re all wrong! You see, it’s an all-new phone, yes, but it doesn’t have a new shape! What are people thinking, settling for that? :)

Next year android makers will have 2" devices since bigger screens are not cracking the nut. The Samsung planet will be a 2" screen

so it goes pretty wel, but many people also buy bs their contract is about to be renewed or finished!!
i think anyway with iphones it gets bussy :p

I LOVE this news.
Whatever you say or not, iPhone 4S (steve) is going to sell well.

Why?
Because people LOVE iPhones.
All you naysayers go "OMG THIS PHONE SUCKS, same as iphone 4, no changes, NOT going to sell well, I'm going to buy Galaxy S II BYE BYE APPLE"

Ha.
I bet some of you are hippocrites and will probably buy iPhone 4S instead, especially when you learn how the tech savy Nexus Prime or Galaxy S II cannot compare with the ease of use of this phone.

Sorry to disappoint you that there will be no iPhone 5. Blame this on the media.
But iPhone 4S will kick some ass in the market share again.

why do they not make more than enough? surely this phone is not that damn difficult to make since basically it's the same damn design as the last...do they just like the sound of "sold out"?

Because Tim Cook is the king of Just In Time inventory, whereas you're just a goose.

Almost from the time he showed up at Apple, Cook knew he had to pull the company out of manufacturing. He closed factories and warehouses around the world and instead established relationships with contract manufacturers. As a result, Apple's inventory, measured by the amount of time it sat on the company's balance sheet, quickly fell from months to days. Inventory, Cook has said, is "fundamentally evil," and he has been known to observe that it declines in value by 1% to 2% a week in normal times, faster in tough times like the present.

I never did get one ordered so now I'm just waiting till next month for my eligible date. I refuse to wait in line for six hours again this year. I did that for the past four years.

I hope everyone who got in enjoys their phones! :)

AT&T Cancel contract or no?

I have AT&T my contract doesn't end till May 2012 how much will it cost me to cancel it and be eligable to buy the new iPhone 4S while still keeping my AT&T number?

Or would it be the same price if I were to buy the iPhone 4S without canceling my account?

I'm not paying 450,550-650 for an iPhone 4S.

As I understand it, your account would have to be closed for 180 days before you could get a line with a new customer discount. If you want to stay with ATT, your best (and probably only) option is to open a second line and pay the ETF on the first line.

Confused?

 I don't know what is going on with at&t, but it's bothering me that i can't know whether i am getting my phone on launch day or later. The website tells me that it's backordered, but i placed the order at 2am last night. Do any of you know if this is because it hasn't been released yet, or i actually got screwed and now have to wait?

Bummer, I went out and got a Galaxy S II the day of the 4S (fail :D) announcement and have been kicking my self ever since. I really wanted a larger screen from :apple:, didnt get it so i sold out to the competition. phone works great, however i realized i have too much invested in the :apple: ecosystem to abandon it. luckily my 30 day return policy will give me a solid 2.5 weeks to find a 4S before i have officially return my GS II

I'm wondering what time I'll have to go to my local AT&T store to get a good spot. Idk how crazy or dedicated the people are around here...hopefully 9 o'clock the night before should be ok!

Each Apple store probably has a limited quantity (since preorders consumed a massive amount of inventory), so if you want to get one before they run out, I would recommend getting there the day before (maybe arrive at 4pm before people get off of work).

To ensure news crews interview you and people take pictures of you, I would recommend wearing an
ape/Bigfoot/Chewbacca costume before getting into line. :D

There is already a thread here where one nutcase says the launch was a failure because it sold out and Apple was not able to keep up with demand...

Another genius who never took a class that explained supply and demand...

I guess that would make the HP tablet a success since they made 800,000 and only sold 20,000.... Plenty of them left in inventory.....

haha seriously. But wait, they're not capitalists right? The Soviets were successful industrially because they never ran out of stock of the boots/tires/etc they made, right? :D

Don't know why people are so surprised.

1: it's the iPhone, it's always going to sell well.
2: It's been 16 months is the last iPhone came out, a lot of people have the chance for an upgrade.

Lets wait a year or so to see if it's as successful as the iPhone 4, I have my doubts, but apple always seems to surprise me.

Considering it took them about 18 hours to actually "sell out" their online stock, I think they made enough. People knew the day for preorders and Apple had enough to spply that day.

Besides, they have to stock the physical stores for Apple, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart, Target.....

I'd say they did a FANTASTIC job with this launch.

I can't order my 64GB Black iPhone 4S until November 16th. I wonder what the stock situation will be like then?

Probably back ordered online and day to day at the stores. Best bet is at a store. If Apple works this launch like the iPad 2 launch, they will hold the stock received during the day until the next morning. The store I worked at didn't receive shipments on Sunday, so there was no stock to sell on Monday.

This is great!!! Apple with huge numbers AGAIN!!!!

i bet apple sells over 8 million just this weekend alone. Good for them they are a great company for the fact that the really know how to treat their customes and they know they are making millions of dollars off of us and the don't try to rape us of every dime ve have after we purchase something like if you think you iPhone has something wrong with it they don't even question you they just give you a brand new iPhone 4(yes it is new and not a refurbished one only the 3G's were rebuilt not the 4's. they don't stop there they treat you right in every way and thats why customers pay big money to have an expensive product(but a good one, all of them are good). they fix problems and ask questions later and money never changes hands. if they keep it up i will always buy every product they sell without a second thought until they fall apart in the customer service dept. I can't foresee that happening in the near future. Apple is spot on and every carrier out there can learn something from apple and if they don't then apple will stay on top of the media game for years to come. sorry such a long post, it's my first one. Lets just hope that the 5 dose not come out in december or i will be out another 700.00 for that cuz i will buy it too as i did the 4s. good luck to all that purchased the new 4s as i did it should be great. lets keep on happly rumoring about the products we love.....LOL

And don't forget the other countries launching on the same day. Not only unlocked phones direct from Apple, but stock for all the Apple stores in those countries, and for all the different carriers that will sell it. It's true it was easier this time round to order the 4S for launch day than it was for the 4. That doesn't necessarily mean less demand, it could also mean more stock beforehand.

I have to laugh reading the posts of all you Nostradamuses out there. But admit it. Almost all of you were underwhelmed at the 4S announcement, hoping for more, like the iPhone 5. Now you all all like "yep, knew it all along!" Oh please

Most people believed the early predictions and figured it would do well, but still are surprised that it did this well.

LOL I thought everyone was going to be buying that Sasmung Galaxy thingy.

At least someone has a sense of perspective :D

I have ordered a 4s and am looking forward to it arriving to replace my ip4, though I don't feel it is as far ahead of the competition as the 4 was when it was released.

Why did I buy?

1. My wife needs a new phone, she gets my ip4
2. Siri
3. Better camera (particularly the speed improvements)
4. I have tried android phones belonging to friends and found them irritating to use

The first was the clincher, otherwise I may have waited.

Maybe the development curve for smartphones is flattening as they become more mature, or perhaps Siri is a bigger deal than we imagine.

Was I the only person to be glad what the case didn't change? I have docks and in car cradles, etc, that I don't want to replace. Being able to use them for my wife's ip4 as well as my ip5 is a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

People goes on about wanting larger screens on their phones, but I don't see how this is attractive for those with smaller hands (e.g. 50% of the population). If the Siri stuff works out we may start to see phones with smaller screens coming out. I can imagine a small phone that functions as a PDA,camera and communications device (and is voice controlled) being popular.

I dunno. The only people who think the iPhone 4S was underwhelming were tech pundits and specification dweebs.

I appeared to be the only person at my office who loved it. I really like the form factor and build of the 4 and didn't figure the design would change and the specs on the phone are great anyway. And I knew they'd sell loads anyway because the vast majority of people buying these things are not the dorks with their Androids going, "Well, I can download my software from any source I like..."

Not that I take issue with that, but techs as a general rule are completely out of touch with most people. Most people care about virtually none of the gripes that get parroted around here. The iPhone is "cool" and Apple is "cool" and that's all the reason most people need.
