Apple Sells Out of iPhone 4S Pre-Order Stocks for Launch Day in U.S.

AT&T appears sold out too

I ordered at 10am Central on 10/7 from AT&T, and just received this saying it would be shipped sometime between 10/22 and 10/29.

Reservation Code

I was given a registration code when the system was overwhelmed and it gave me until 5pm today to complete my order. I just completed it and it shows delivery on Oct 14th. Some people will likely get bumped back to delivery on the 14th if people don't complete their orders by 5pm today.

did you order from apples website or your carriers? and what time and which day was it that you were issued a reservation code?

Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some insight from everyone's experience on preorders. Well, I posted this question earlier today, but it was just missed or it was too early for me to get answer. Here it goes...

I tried to place my order on the 7th, just like many other thousands I people. I finally got through with AT&T after trying with Apple, but to no avail. The order was placed through AT&T around 2am. It's a 32gb white iPhone 4S, but when placed it I got an email saying that it would be shipped on the 14th. Now on AT&T's website to check on my order it says it's back ordered! Has anyone else come across this? I'm hoping that it's because it hasn't been released yet, or do you think I got screwed?

I dont know if anyone has replied. There's too many posts on here lol. Anyways, I asked this same question a couple days ago and one other person came across this problem. I have the same issue too but today I received a second email saying "we have processed your order and it has been sent to our warehouse for shipment". So I'm not too sure why they are telling us it's backordered. Hopefully we'll still get it by the 14th and not end up like Verizon customers.

I just got done talking to att and they tell me that they can't help me because the order was placed with a "premiere" account! That's blasphemy! Lol!

The person also told me that they have different stocked items for Premiere and "regular" customers. So now I have to wait until Monday morning and call premiere customer service so THEY can help me out. Maybe... Here's hoping for the best. :D

I pre-ordered two 64GB versions at 4:30am pacific time through Sprint's website. It went smoothly, but I had to make other changes. I have a family plan currently through them with three lines already, and none of them are upgrade eligible for close to a year now. So I added two lines so I could get the subsidized price on the iphones (2 64GBs adds up) and changed the plan to the Everything Data plan. Went through checkout and noticed that my credit card had been successfully "charged". I knew I was in the clear then. Well, I never got a confirmation email until 1pm which said my order was on hold and to call in to validate. So after work that evening I called them and had to go through a bunch of security questions and then I was told everything was validated and that I should be getting a new confirmation email. The lady I was talking to was clearly brand new at her job and you could hear someone else on the line helping her through the process which didn't make me feel like everything was ok like they said it was. Sure enough, today I check the sprint.com/myorder and it still states that I need validation. It looks like this -

So I call again and got someone to recheck my order. He said that my order got "stuck in the system" (whatever that means) but that everything is validated and good to go. He also mentioned that because of the massive amounts of iphone orders they have been processing, that it may take until monday or tuesday before I see that my order has actually been processed online and until then, it will state that my order needs validation. So if anyone else is seeing the "validation" message on their order status even after its been validated, then that is why. He told me my order will still ship on the 14th, so here's to waiting.

I can't wait to hear the haters spin this, haha.

It'll go something like this:

iPhone 4S will fail! It's a dud!

(Product sells in record numbers upon release)

All the iSheep bought it! Suckers!

(Apple posts record sales of iPhone 4S the following quarter, increasing market share, with barely more than two models.)

But Android still has greater share! Google is all about choice!

(iPhone 4S tops consumer satisfaction reports. Again.)

There must be something wrong with the survey/data/people, and/or the numbers are skewed/Apple bought everyone off (every year.)

I woke up this morning and checked my order status from Apple's site. It says "preparing for shipment" which pretty much means its boxed up and sitting there.

I hope Apple starts shipping them out on Monday and Tuesday.

I had the same problem with at&t's website saying that my order (32gb black & 16gb white) was backordered even though I ordered in the first hour their site was up on the 7th. I called at&t aa few minutes ago and was told that the site displays that orders are backordered for all preorders since they don't ship them right away. Once it is ready for shipment later this week it will change and will arrive on the 14th or before.

Here is what AT&T is showing me for my order status. I ordered at about 1:30AM PST on the night of the launch.

Everyone else see this for AT&T as well (if you ordered from them)?

They are going to have to rename it the Steve Jobs memorial phone.
It's obvious that people are buying it as a memento as much as a phone.

Haven't people noticed yet, APPLE NEVER FAILS! Everyone (including me!) laughed in the face of the iPad. Now every (including me) is in love with the iPad! The same will happen with the 4S

These things will be in AT&T stores on launch day right? I was able to get a 3GS on launch day without waiting in line or anything as I live in the boonies. I happen to be off work next friday anyways.

Yes they will be available in stores on friday.

People tend to not notice things that aren't true. Think about products like the Newton, the buttonless iPod shuffle, the Mighty Mouse, and the first generation MBA. People never really liked those to the point where they could be considered failures. And not everybody (including me) is in love with the iPad. Apple is like a person: you can like them in general without liking everything about them.

Yes. And people that have ordered a few hours after I did have gotten emails that it's been shipped. Feels bad man.

"I guess that would make the HP tablet a success since they made 800,000 and only sold 20,000.... Plenty of them left in inventory..... "

Well said...........

Umm kind of difference between trying to build a sufficient inventory for launch and essentially not selling anything outside of your on organization in a full quarter or more...

Apple sold 20 million iPhones in the previous quarter, that is about 220,000 every day (including weekends). They shouldn't be sold out after pre-orders of about 2 1/2 days worth of sales.

220k was one carrier in one country. Pre-orders opened for 7 countries and 15+ carriers at the same time. Estimates were the US carriers confirmed 500k pre-orders in 12 hrs, I have not seen numbers for other countries.

Right, at least until you get your nasty text from apple about how you are going to be throttled until hour next billing cycle, which oh by the way is in 3 weeks. Some of us don't have wifi available everywhere. I am greatly looking forward to my 64gb iPhone arriving next week.

Apple does nor provide or manage mobile data service.

My local Verizon Store...

Opens at 0800 on Friday, I just got a Text from my favorite Verizon Rep. I'll be there bright and early to get a white 64GB one. The last Rollout in February, my store had all of 7 people waiting. I stopped by later in the day and they still had phones available, and they did for weeks.

I shouldn't have a bit of a problem getting he Phone I want.

Anyone standing in line should wear a black turtleneck with jeans.

This isn't funny....

sick joke man sick joke

Apparently patience was a virtue.

I bought mine through the Apple Store iPhone app at 5PM eastern time on Friday... I bought two and they are both scheduled to be here on the 14th.

No hassle, no getting up early, no refreshing the website and frustration.

I would also never, ever, ever order from AT&T or any other the other carriers, Apple or nothing.

AND, they seem to practice FILO shipping. This was important when some original iPads were shipped a day early--the people who got them were the patient ones that made fairly late pre-orders. So if there's a similar situation here, the patient ones will win!
