Apple Sells Out of iPhone 4S Pre-Order Stocks for Launch Day in U.S.

Everyone wanted a phone called iPhone5. Just a name. Anything called iPhone 5 would have made people happy. That's how important a name is. I believe Apple delivered on everything people wanted except the name. They wanted it called the 5 but it was called the 4s.

People cry the 4 was way better then it's competition then the 4s was. And I agree. But for me the competition for the 4 was the 3Gs. And the competition for the 4s is the 4. Simply cause Apple's old models sell so well. I believe there is no single phone out there as good as the iPhones. And the sales figures tend to agree.

Personally I really like the 4s. Its what everyone wants in a phone. All the internals tweaked. All new OS. Siri. An excellent external design. And attractive price points. No really cheap 4 like I wanted but meh I'll live. And if it aint broke don't fix it. The 4 had an excellent external design. And the 4s just followed on with it. Saves Apple money to make and we get a tried and proven external design.

Apart from the fact the iPhones are well above my price range (I need to buy it outright) I'm really pally with the 4 and 4s. I dunno why the 3Gs is still on sale though. It needs to die.

WTF, Verizon just changed our ship date from 'to arrive on 14th' to 'ship on the 21st'.... and yes, I ordered right on launch hour

I think sometimes we want Apple to change our lives every single year with some god like product...lol We got the shaft over the bigger screen but other than that it seems like a great phone. Some may argue no 4g but it is not ready as Apple would get murdered in reviews on battery life.

You're not the first to post this. Sounds like Verizon dropped the ball.

According to the keynote, it is 4G, speed wise. I read that AT&T is trying to get Apple to issue a software update that would display 4G instead of 3G in the status bar.

oops, I skipped to the latest entry after page 4... I guess there is still hope. If not, it is not the end of the world (except I want it naaaooooow :D)

Because up until the iPhone 4S announcement, it was the second best selling smartphone. And over the next twelve months, it will probably be the third best selling smartphone.

It still opens the door for a lot of buyers.

The COGS on the iPhone 3GS must be damned low by now, Apple's margins on the handset are probably spectacular. They really got their money's worth from all the R&S effort and expense they put into that phone.

I would not bet on an iPhone 5 coming out this June. Way too early....

I bought my iPhone 4 back in February when it launched with Verizon. Althought the 4S does offer some upgraded features, I do not see myself using Siri with regularity. I could be wrong, though. In any event, I'm still very happy with the iPhone 4.

I did upgrade for the 4S for my wife. I ordered it last night through Apple.com at around 10:30pm. It looks like I did it just in time because they moved the delivery date out another week.

Yeah I'm thinking that the iPhone 5 will be out around Oct. 2012 now. The ip4 is still great for me, but the new camera on 4S had me sold. Siri seems to be good for voice texting while driving. Wonder how much of that I'll actually use. And last, faster dual core A5 chip is a bonus.

Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some insight from everyone's experience on preorders. Well, I posted this question earlier today, but it was just missed or it was too early for me to get answer. Here it goes...

I tried to place my order on the 7th, just like many other thousands I people. I finally got through with AT&T after trying with Apple, but to no avail. The order was placed through AT&T around 2am. It's a 32gb white iPhone 4S, but when placed it I got an email saying that it would be shipped on the 14th. Now on AT&T's website to check on my order it says it's back ordered! Has anyone else come across this? I'm hoping that it's because it hasn't been released yet, or do you think I got screwed?

I stuck with AT&T, being able to talk on the phone AND surf the net is HUGE for me...........PLUS, us AT&T subscribers get HSPA+ with iPhone 4S, we were already faster than Verizon, now we're MUCH, MUCH faster than Verizon.

I still like ATT where I live (Philadelphia), but when I head up to my friends mountain house for the weekends, I only get edge. He has perfect Verizon 3G service. So sending emails and photo text on my behalf takes forever. No wifi in there too. Drive me nuts sometimes.
Thats the only reason I was considering moving to Verizon. In the long run I might just stick it out. Who knows ... ATT could have 3G service in the area for 2012. (Northern PA/Lake Wallenpaupak area) ... fingers crosses.

Apparently patience was a virtue.

I bought mine through the Apple Store iPhone app at 5PM eastern time on Friday... I bought two and they are both scheduled to be here on the 14th.

No hassle, no getting up early, no refreshing the website and frustration.

I would also never, ever, ever order from AT&T or any other the other carriers, Apple or nothing.

I got my first apple product about a year and a half ago when hubby got me an iPod touch. It practically became glued to my hip and still is. And after a year of having crappy phones that have failed me, I pre ordered the 4S yesterday morning. I am super excited! Personally, I've always been fond of the iP4 body and was actually disappointed when I started seeing all these prototypes and mockups of the iP5. So this 4S is just what I need. Now I'll finally be able to lay to rest the $12 AT&T phone I got from Walmart that has been holding me over.

why do they not make more than enough? surely this phone is not that damn difficult to make since basically it's the same damn design as the last...do they just like the sound of "sold out"?

Same design?
New CPU
New GPU
New camera
New antenna
New GSM+CDMA radio
New Bluetooth 4.0 radio
New battery
New storage

And of course all the 4S-exclusive features in iOS 5.

But other than that, it's the "same design", right?

Well I hope that's not accurate because I placed my order through AT&T, too. Had to do that thing where they send a second email to complete the order. However, I can't check the status yet maybe because it hasn't been 24 hours?? But I hope it's scheduled to be delivered on the 14th. Speaking from experience with other online shopping, sometimes the backorder status is reverted and you still get your item on time. Fingers crossed!

People goes on about wanting larger screens on their phones, but I don't see how this is attractive for those with smaller hands (e.g. 50% of the population). If the Siri stuff works out we may start to see phones with smaller screens coming out. I can imagine a small phone that functions as a PDA,camera and communications device (and is voice controlled) being popular.

Just a case of people wanting what they can't have for many of the complainers. people like to think that 4" would make all the difference. It wouldn't. But because people can't have it, they want it.

I was thinking that maybe this could be because on the onslaugh of people ordering it, but it ha been over 24hrs for me and the order is STILL precessing and it shows as being back ordered.

second email to complete the order?

what is this second email to "complete" the order people are speaking of? is this only if you ordered through the carriers site? i ordered on apple.com. im pretty sure im in the first batch, but not sure. my order was placed at like 7am cst on the 7th. i tried doing it at 2am cst, but the server was just too busy. couldnt get through. i received an "order confirmation" email from apple at about 10 am cst that same day. never received anything since. i then called later that night and switched my shipping information on the order to match my billing address. i then received a confirmation email about switching the shipping info. the lady told me mine was scheduled for delivery on the 14th.

i just called apple customer service when i heard of the sell out. asked them if i am missing a step or an email and if i was in the first batch. this guy says my phone is still scheduled to be delivered on the 14th and he doesnt see any kind of error notices or anything on my order. i asked him about a second email i should receive, and he said the only thing he knows of is agreeing to the terms and conditions. i thought i agreed to those prior to completing the order on the website. he said that he couldnt tell if i had agreed or not and all he could do is send an email to me with the agreement. is that something i need to do? he was kinda unclear on what i should do. probably because he didnt want to guarantee i was getting the phone or anything, just in case something happens. i have had every iphone model so far, but have never preordered online. i have waited in line every year, and didnt buy the original at launch.

i just keep hearing people talking about "completing" their order through email and dont understand what that means? is there a clear cut way to tell if youre in the first batch?

i just checked my order on apple.com and it says it is processing and says it will be delivered on the 14th. i dont see anywhere that is says backordered or anything. im assuming this means im good?

That's what iTunes match is all about. You carry all your music library in the cloud and decide what songs you want when you need them anytime. No need for 64gb.

Right, at least until you get your nasty text from apple about how you are going to be throttled until hour next billing cycle, which oh by the way is in 3 weeks. Some of us don't have wifi available everywhere. I am greatly looking forward to my 64gb iPhone arriving next week.

Apple has no control over throttling the speeds from your carrier. Thats your carriers fault if you get throttled.

Did you get a text? If you did, congrats. You are in the top 5% of data consumption.

I don't think I'll ever get up there.

Same here

I dont know if anyone has replied. There's too many posts on here lol. Anyways, I asked this same question a couple days ago and one other person came across this problem. I have the same issue too but today I received a second email saying "we have processed your order and it has been sent to our warehouse for shipment". So I'm not too sure why they are telling us it's backordered. Hopefully we'll still get it by the 14th and not end up like Verizon customers.

Backordered????????

So I ordered mine from ATT...I checked my order status and it says backordered.....does that just mean that they are holding it until it ships? I ordered mine within the first hour that there site was up.

I believe that is for the people who made reservations through apple. I got a second email the same morning to complete the order and that portion consisted of picking out your plan or validating if you wanted to keep your same plan. I never followed through because I was able to put in the pre-order through ATT's website as I intended on doing from the start.

I pre-ordered my mom's through apple and I i believe that they let me take the pre-order straight through without sending me a reservation email. The difference was only times. I put my pre-order through Apple in around 3:30AM east coast time and did hers around 5:30Am.

Refer to my response above yours. It seems like people , including myself, are having that issue.

I missed the pre-order lot which ship by the 14th down under.

When would the iPhones usually be sold out in the physical Apple Stores? within hours? days? or are they only limiting pre-orders to maintain stocks in the retail stores?

If I order online now, I have to wait up to 2 or 3 weeks...and that's after launch day.

My guess: A record number.

It seems to be about that time in the mobile industry cycle when a lot of people who bought Android phones and are getting sick of them, are moving to iPhone.

Yes, some people move from iPhone to Android, but I bet anyone that the numbers are vastly in favor of people moving TO iOS, not the other way around. I say this because of people I know doing just this -- normal people, not the extreme tech geeks who want the "biggest specs."

I moved my family from an AT&T iPhone to an EVO on Sprint.... forward six months. Verizon launches the iPhone 4. My wife threw her phone at me and said this phone is crap. I ended up selling both EVO's on eBay, paid my way out of my contract at Sprint and bought 2 iPhone 4's on Verizon.
