But we are talking about the nerd stuff that so many Apple Evangelist use as an counter argument against Android. If we are actually talking about consumers looking to purchase a new iphone, the external looks matter more than internals(which the average person, mainly doesnt understand)
When the 3GS came out, suddenly specs mattered. This whole new GPU was so screaming fast and the Cortex A8 made the device just scream. Fast forward iPad 2, 9 times faster graphics!
Apple marketing will say specs don't matter when they don't have the spec crown. They will push the specs as world changing when they do. The "Apple Evangelist" just repeat whatever is poured out of Apple marketing.
Don't worry your little nogging, Apple does what Apple wants to do. If that is a bunch of beefed up internals in an iPhone 4 case with an iPhone 5 label, that is what we're going to get, and it's going to be Magical (said in a soothing voice with a Brit accent and a 50$ makeover from techgeek to "product designer").
Externally there will be a bigger impact on the minds of consumers and nerds alike than drooling over a SoC and Ram bump.
Sure, you can think that, but the 3GS went on to sell so many more units than the 3G that I think anything put out by Apple marketing will have the biggest impact on the minds of consumer, and again, Apple marketing is going to make sure to remind us how magical the device is and how revolutionary it's going to be even if it looks like last year's model.
It's going to sell. No matter what it is. Don't be the nay sayer because if you are, all you will do is have your face dragged in the mud when it does sell and sell very well. You'll be ridiculed and japed about as the guy who said "Just a big iPod Touch, it won't sell.", "It's just an MP3 player", "it doesn't even have 3G!", etc...

Just look at Macbook Air design. It hasn't changed dramatically since its realease and you don't ear "That design look completely outdate".
Actually, it did back in October 2010. The first design saw 3 revisions, the new design is on its 2nd revision.
