What is he basing his analysis on? Kudos if he's right but very few people actually know what's coming in the next iPhone. He's regurgitating old rumours as far as I can see.

All we have to do is wait. Wait a few more weeks or however long as it takes, get on with our lives till then and see what appears. If you're not happy with what comes out, then don't get it. If you are happy with it, then get it.

Then continue to get on with our lives afterwards with a new phone :)

I've never been a huge fan of the iPhone4 design so if this is true I will be pretty unimpressed. No amount of internal upgrades will make me like that design so I'll probably jump ship to Android. I can't deal with the glass on the back and tiny screen.

Every iPhone owner admits to drool over the screen size, the thinner factor and overall look of the Android phones.

I don't admit to it or actually do it.

Although I'll admit to a little drool when I think of the possibility of a liquidmetal unibody enclosure for an iPhone that'd make third party cases obsolete. But that's probably not this iteration.

Can't say I'm too surprised, but what the heck took them so long? Is the camera at least better? :(

Yeah, what I said when the 4 came out!
I'm waiting for the 64 gig Iphone!
Anyone heard about a bump in storage size?

Hope so. 64GB is the main thing I'd like to see in this upgrade - the iPod touch has had this for two years.

This would be a VERY WEAK upgrade for 2011. Apple got away with that with the 3g->3gs upgrade because competition was still catching up in 2009. Now with Android partners release megaphones every hour, people have more choices. Outside of the people that already have an iphone and want to upgrade... I dont think this will attract many new customers if its the exact same design.

In my opinion...

This story/rumor is probably closer to the truth than most if not all others. The only thing that we have to speculate about a bigger iPhone5 is the case designs, and no offense, but that's pretty weak speculation. Every actual part we have seen is for a phone very similar in size to the current iPhone4.

I am guessing the new iPhone will be very similar in design and size to the current one, but it will have a faster processor, a higher-resolution camera, and of course the new iOS, which I think has been the reason for the longer release time. Apple not only wanted, but needed to get this iCloud service as perfect as they can, especially after the initial MobileMe disaster. Yes, I think the whole delay is based on software, not hardware.

With the extended wait from iPhone 4, I don't believe any rumors that say there is no new design to the iPhone 5, anything else could be the next budget iPhone

So far Apple is late with the iPhone and iPod updates, Not to mention IOS 5. Originally I thought Apple was waiting for Steve Jobs to return to work before announcing new products, but we now missed 2 keynotes with no reason why.

The Last updates was Lion (which I can’t find any apple magic), and spec updates for Air’s and Mini’s.

I wonder if this is history repeating itself. I wonder the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 will be the last Magic products apple will ever produce.

im sorry but i cannot disagree with you more. iOS 5 is integrating a LOT of new features. itunes match, icloud, wifi sync, just to name a few. they are building a bigger and better ecosystem for their users. like others have stated, the iphone 4 is still the best selling phone.

Do i want a new redesign? Sure
Will i cry out loud if they do not? No

Apple will keep innovating, and chances are, most posters in this thread will get the iphone 5 regardless of redesign or not.

Several thoughts:

1. As other posters have said, I can't imagine why it would take Apple 16 months just to speedbump a processor. Likewise, I can't imagine why they'd wait 16 months just for iOS 5.
2. There may be a 4S, but if there's a 5 (which there likely is), Apple is probably keeping it as secret as possible until launch. The competition is fierce.
3. I just want to ditch my paperweight iPhone 3G ASAP.

They may have waited 16 months because they wanted to release the 4S together with iOS 5 which was held up getting the Siri technology licensed and working properly at scale (recent rumors seem to confirm that this is only now working).

That said I do think it is possible for the next iPhone to have a few surprises due to the security snafu around the iPhone 4. Apple has been known to plant false and misleading rumors in the past. I think the most likely surprise would be LTE support because AT&T and Sprint have only recently gotten the ball rolling there.

Personally I'll be thrilled with any iPhone that supports T-Mobile's 3G spectrum. HSPDA+ is sufficient for me!

There's no way it's taking Apple this long just to dump an A5 chip into an iPhone shell. I understand they don't want another Mobile Me fiasco with the new services they're offering but I expect a completely redesigned phone. If not I'll hold out for the iPhone 6.

I've always been in the camp of those who felt the leaked "tappered" design was actually the new ipod touch and not the iphone. Of course NOBODY knows until Apple officially announces it....but i hope this to be the case. Personally, i like the iphone 4 design. However, i don't get why this article then says the camera will be the same tho....when there has been such strong evidence that Apple will be going with a new 8 megapixel unit. And about the ipod touch 5? is it actually the recipient of the leaked "tear drop" design? Will it get 3G? Will it get a better camera? Sooo many interesting questions. Sept/October should be fun. :)

I have been excited about all of the possibilities of a new iPhone, bigger screen and tapered design, but if it doesn't have any of those things I will be just as happy.

I remember when I first held the iPhone 4 some months back, really a well-designed device. Much better than I had thought it would feel. And this will be my first iPhone, so I can't complain too much.

I am really hoping for 64 GB.

I just wish we can get a keynote or iPhone event on the calendar because the wait for any kind of information is killing me!

I still have a Razr people, a Razr!

It's really starting to seem like we won't getting a big upgrade, which leaves me confused as to why they would wait so long to introduce it.

I know the is from an analyst and should be taken with a grain of salt but it's getting worrying that we can't seem to find any information that points to anything other then the N94 device.

Everyone contributes the long wait to engineering issues but I think it was a business decision. By pushing it back, the normal bottleneck of the June quarter became the best quarter ever for iPhone sales, hitting 20 million. Apple realized a way they could get more money, more sales all the while not having to introduce new hardware. They seized that opportunity.

If Apple rolls with these specs they're going to have a revolt on their hands.

I know of three ladies, my wife included, who are anxiously awaiting a kick-as$ new phone and if this is what they've been waiting for they'll be pissed.

And they don't care half as much as I do.

Bummed.

I've been using a busted a** 3gs (shattered screen) for the last 2 months in the hopes of making it last till the new iPhone launched. Some lady spilled her drink on it this weekend and its now totally fried.

If the new iPhone is nothing but an internal upgrade i guess i could just get a 4 and call it a day.

OR BETTER YET! Go snatch a Galaxy S II, looks like an iPhone has the screen size i wanted out of the new iPhone, and is basically running iOS 5. Too bad i've spent so much money on an iTunes music collection, i guess im a sucker.

I hope this is true. I want to try to go a full 2 years on my contact and then compare each carrier to get the best deal when the iPhone 5 comes out. Apple please don't temp me with your wares.
