This is faintly absurd. Given the current situation across the planet, Apple should be supplying new sets to customers while they work out how to resolve this firmware snafu.

Maybe this FW has code from former IS&T contractors? lol ... kidding. This will definitely upset customers - I'd hate to be the first one to try and convince Apple Support what has happened.

Going through this now. They send a replacement Airpod 2 set since I was having issues with them charging, both left and right. The replacement set comes in three packages, case, left and right headsets, with the left having 2D3 firmware. You can see this as you can connect each airpod separately. Several calls last week and I was told that they can only send replacement sets and pray that i can a set with the same firmware....my 1 year is up April 28th.....not hopeful right now....

That’s definitely frustrating. Even if something exceeds past April 28, Apple will make it right ‘after-the-fact’. I agree that this is a really unfortunate mishap that should’ve been located before sending out an Airpod with inconsistent software.

Just my own advice, if for whatever reason your next set of AirPods doesn’t sync properly, I would escalate your concern past a ’senior advisor’, and go straight to customer relations through their corporate level to hopefully find a better outcome.

It's beyond infuriating that they nerfed the noise cancellation the launch day APPs came with.

They were a sensational product for about one month, until 2B588 came.

I reckon they either weakened it for liability reasons to stop people being hit by cars. That, or it really is a horrible plan to incentivise purchases of a future model with "improved" ANC. Which would be nefarious in the extreme.

It's really amateur hour over at Apple....unfortunately the hour has become years....

Why can't they release an old stable firmware on a higher version number to overwrite 2D3 and 2C54...?

How many were sent with this firmware?

Same old tired response from you "how many?" knowing full well that Apple doesn't release the numbers so you can constantly down play the issue as insignificant. Almost as reliable as your blind praise for Tim Cook posts in almost every financials related thread.

How many? Not 3, not 3 million, somewhere in the middle but enough that people are talking about it.

Have you tried a DFU restore of your device? That is the next step in troubleshooting. ;)

I have the Airpod 2 firmware update steps with Apple and no luck, won't update. Case flashing amber, and doesn't go white with both in, only one at a time and the firmware will only update both airpods and not one at a time. Seems like we are in the middle of a firmware update that hasn't been released yet.

I think this is about the firmware for the AirPods (2nd gen) not the AirPods Pro, so complaints about ANC wouldn’t apply here.
True, but a lot of air pod pro owners have also ended up with two different firmware types because of sending them back due to ANC problems. This problem is literally going on half a year now and why Apple hasn't pushed a firmware update, something that is seemingly simple to do, is baffling.

Seems to be a substantial amount of bafflement in the air at Cupertino these days/months/years. What will it take to clear the air? A senior management clear-out? Speculation is welcome...

This is kinda funny. Wonder if this is a result of mixed communication signals while people are working remotely? Maybe someone accidentally pushed the update to a batch early to get their work done for the day and then they found an issue at the last minute which means they need an even newer version, meanwhile that person who pushed the update is nowhere to be found, lol.

My Pro's have the 2C54 firmware, and the ANC works perfectly for me.

I’m having an issue with my AirPods and I’m not sure if it’s related to this. Few hours ago, one of my two AirPods suddenly lost volume, it sounds at half the volume that it should. So the right AirPod sounds at the normal volume and the left one is barely audible.

It has been one year and one week since I bought them, but I’m from Europe, so I’m into the second year of warranty. Anyways this is strange... what should I do? Apple Stores are closed because of Covid-19

I gave them a pass from day 1 and have no interest in changing that decision. Plastic sticks providing poor sound quality at a high cost. No thanks.
It's like high-end low-end. Take those neat features and jam them into a set of high-end headphones, and you got an instant sale from me. The AirPods seem like a strange half-way point between cheap and high-quality.

Apple seems to be dropping the ball lately in small but irritating ways. And this started happening long before Covid-19, so it's not that. I hope they can get their crap together soon.
My guess is the current situation is exacerbating the problem. The support desks are operating with smaller staffing, and more people are remote.
