Oops. Every once in a while a company, not just Apple, pulls an oops. Not to risk bad karma, and sorry to those who are inconvenienced, but this one’s kinda sorta funny.

Hopefully these firmware update problems and the Covid shutdowns make Apple think very carefully about whether to remove the Lightning port and go completely port free for the 2021 iPhone. The inability to do an easy restore means many issues will require a device swap or based on these AirPods reports potentially multiple replacement units. That is hardly time, cost or environmentally efficient. AirPods lacking a port is understandable given they are wireless headphones but isn't a worthwhile "optimization" for larger devices like iPhones.

Same old tired response from you "how many?" knowing full well that Apple doesn't release the numbers so you can constantly down play the issue as insignificant. Almost as reliable as your blind praise for Tim Cook posts in almost every financials related thread.

How many? Not 3, not 3 million, somewhere in the middle but enough that people are talking about it.
Because it happening a few times on a small scale isn’t a story...sorry you still have to learn that.

The average user doesn't handle a DFU restore today anyway; they take them into their local Apple Store who does it for them. This is unlikely to change in the future.

But hey. Memoji’s, social causes, China. It’s all important.

Remember when it was “it just works” and if Apple screwed it up, they just took the hit to make the customer feel whole ASAP?

Yeah, me too. Now it’s just another game of hooray for me, and F$&@ you.

Sears, GM, Enron. This never lasts. Never. Especially with the coin Apple charges for products.....

It sucks, but it’s important to keep this in context. There is little Apple can do in the current situation. While it’s tempting to get upset with them, and it is their error, in this situation there’s not much these at-Home employees can do. Perhaps when this is over they can comp something for the inconvenience

I sure hope this new unreleased firmware is close to being pushed out, and fixes the noise cancelation quality issue that was introduced with the last firmware.
Mine work great, zero issues

Apple still can't get WiFi sync of iOS devices to work 100% of the time. Going portless would be a disaster for people who still load locally stored music on their phones.

Wireless restores are possible. They do that on Macs now

They are not worried about it, guaranteed.

they have a similar issue with the AirPods Pros...my right one broke (constant clicking sound...) they had to replace the ENTIRE set...new case and two new pods. I'm not complaining as it was a brand new set...but seems a bit wasteful!

LOL, I got news for you slick, it is literally a story, right here on this site, a story, a scoop, an article by Julie Clover. It's right on the main page, look hard you'll find it!

Butterfly keyboards a few times on a small scale too? LOL, its like fish in a bucket with you.

And? Give me your numbers. Butterfly keyboards weren’t as big as people here believed rather, or they would have been changed years ago. Betting against naysayers like you is fish in a barrel. Buy AAPL.

So something similar to this happened to me when I replaced my left Airpod Pro back in January. I could only connect one Airpod at a time, and Apple just told me to leave them connected for a few hours and the firmware would update. It didn't, and when I reached back out to them their support was completely unaware of what to do. I scoured the internet for answers and couldn't find anything even remotely close to working. I ended up fixing it on my own out of a stroke of luck.

After being furious and nearly giving up, I decided to try un-pairing again and had a thought.... I pulled down Control Center>Long-press the audio controls>tap the AirPlay icon and once I was there I happened to notice that it showed I could share my audio with nearby AirPod Pros. I thought....surely not...and tried it. And for the first time in 4 days, I had functioning AirPod Pros!

After that, I left them connected and returned to Settings and tried pairing them again and it gave me the Not Your AirPods message but let me pair anyway.

And they've worked ever since.

Well, thanks much for calling me ignorant. Must be wonderful to be so superior.
Don’t be so touchy. You invited a response by directly quoting me and questioning my assertion the ANC has been weakened substantially since launch by claiming its “perfect” now.

There are no numbers, you know that perfectly well, numbers do not matter. Customers, including members of this very forum, experienced an issue and were discussing it. It was then picked up and made into a "story" by MR (and many others) to shed light on the topic, why does that bother you so much that you felt the need to post your usual snarky "how many"?

Sounds like a story to me!

And how exactly would you bet against me? Also, how am I a naysayer? See the list in my sig, in general I am a very happy owner of AAPL, both product and stock.

Unlike you I am willing and able to call a turd a turd, even if it is my turd.
