Seriously. This is probably the most irrelevant nit-picky concern I’ve ever heard this site complain about. There is tons to truly complain about that these users give Apple a free pass for, but getting a couple of push notices from Apple about their ecosystem improving and reversing an old terrible decision on echo.. really guys?

You spent more time of your life gliding past intrusive ads just on MacRumors in the last 45 seconds.

You get used to it. There was an article once about a phone case that had a hole for the camera 1/10th of a millimeter too wide on the left side or something. Nothing is too petty to get worked up about when it comes to Apple. Then are the big issues, but I’m not even allowed to comment on those.

New low for Apple.
Easy for them to get a hold of millions of people all at once.
Everyone is registered with them, they practically know every detail of our lives.
They're losing money....time to promote themselves.
Apple apologists are already doing their thing.
Apple can always count on them. No matter what..lol

Makes me want to smash my iPhone and switch to Android.

If you use the Music and TV apps and want notifications relevant to your subscriptions then you are de facto forced to accept Apple's ******** push ads. This is not OK.

Goodness gracious, if this how easy it is to make you want to smash your iPhone I recommend anger management or buying an Android.

The manufactured rage of online communities would be hilarious, if the impact wasn’t felt offline globally.

I just want a way to turn off Notifications every day about upgrading MacOS to Mojave. You can’t close it. You can’t do anything with them other then click them and let them take you to App Store and then close that.

I can’t upgrade! I’m in the middle of a project with a legacy app that I don’t want to risk breaking. Leave me alone!

When I’m done, I can marvel about how innovative dark mode is (something so old it’s new again I guess...)
If you spent half the energy you used to rant about Mojave (which by the way is the best OS Apple has shipped in years and my legacy apps work perfectly on it) into solving your "problem", you would realise you can turn off update notifications.

I received the Echo one (didn't bother me, as I want that), but not carpool karaoke notification. That would have pissed me off, as I hate that guy and that schtick.

Apple is such a scummy company and so is its CEO.

How much you want to bet they put out a press release saying something along the lines of “This was just a glitch in our system that affected a small amount of our customers...”? Bull it wasn’t Apple. You spammed your customers. The same customers you routinely claim “Are not your product”

Are we really going to complain about a push notification? This reminds me of a lady that called in a few years ago when I was working in tech support. She was mad because she had to click "save changes" on her profile after she updated her profile.... People just like to complain about anything and everything.
These complaints are typical of today's society. It takes much longer to complain about something than it does to simply ignore or delete a push notification but yet here we are reading complaints...

I’m not seeing a lot of hysterics or overreacting. Just people calling out apple for not following the same rules they enforce with respect to app developers, and people pointing out that apple has done this twice in two days and it’s a bit annoying.

Guess what? Just because your parents drink when you are a child doesn’t mean you get to either.

My beef with notifications is that they are on by default. I can turn them off easily. But the user who doesn't know any better is plagued by them and just learns to put up with them.
Sorry, I feel the need to correct you. You’ll ALWAYS be asked if you would wish to allow notifications for this app the first time you open it. So it is not on by default.

This rule isn’t enforced on any app. Effin Walmart and Best Buy send me notifications about their dang sales every day.

I can't imagine you are getting those notifications without first having an app or agreed to receive the notifications in some way.

As for Apple abusing notifications, shame on them!

How exactly is this unsolicited when the user elected to enable notifications for these apps?
Erm what’s wrong with this. These are things I’d like to know if I didn’t already know. It’s not like they are trying to sell me something.

I avoided MacRumors for a while because they kept posting "news" about new carpool karaoke episodes on the FRONT PAGE all the time and even started to look into browser plugins to filter **** like that and now Apple annoys us with that crap too

I might be wrong but does this not cover the notifications in the T’s & C’s?

I’m not agreeing with the merit of the notifications, just the term “unsolicited” in the main article, when basically like it or lump it, we signed up for it in accepting Apples T’s & C’s. (Although we can still turn off as per article)

Probably put together by a solicitor that equals spam and information if it suits his case.

Google did the same thing recently, promoting some movies. Not sure if it was intentional. In both Apple and Google's cases, I can't imagine what they were thinking.

I'm sure if you review the TOS you'd find you are incorrect.

Not defending Apple, by the way. I just think the OUTRAGE is a little out of proportion to the supposed offense.

The U2 album was a bigger issue, at least in my opinion.
"We followed the ToS" does not mean a good product.

So that’s what desperation looks like. As a long time Apple user I didn’t know that until now.
I thought the Music app and iTunes nagging you about Apple Music were worse. Also Game Center. Those not only involved modal stuff but immense amounts of lag.
[doublepost=1545207152][/doublepost]
If apple can do it, they should allow app developers to do it. Wouldn’t that be fun?
They aren't supposed to let devs do it, but they do. It's annoying. I enable notifications for an app, and it sends me one saying "you haven't used me in a while."

Because Apples own App Store guidelines state this:

Email spam is expected, but push notifications are meant to be kept at a higher standard. At least they used to be, till now I guess.
I've definitely seen big-name apps violating this. I'd even say Snapchat violates it by sending a message on every minor holiday and also sending a push notification to say the other person is typing.

Imagine your life being so comfortable that this is something you would complain about. Just clear the message!

Turn off push notifications for the app, simple as. Get over yourselves. Pathetic. Crying over such a small petty issue that is included in their T&C. I might start complaining when I head to my local mall I get a notification about the apple store. God forbid I get a notification from an app I approved.

Move on, swipe it away and get over it. Or just turn Apple Music notifications off.

If you do a fresh install of iOS and don’t restore from a backup, you’ll notice that Music has the ability to send notifications by default.

You don’t get asked if you’d like to receive them or not.

Like a lot off apps, just turn them off lol, you have an option.
