Is it asking too much in 2022 to have fast charging (at least when there is only one device plug-in) and 2 ports?

It makes sense as something to bundle with a MacBook Air or iPad which is largely sold on mobility : more power = more bulk. Also, fast charging may not be so good for the battery.
(Sticking buyers of the entry-level MB Air with a single port charger is just mean, though).

Possibly, more powerful 2-port chargers will appear when the 14/16" MBPs get updated to M2.

The logical thing - now that everything is using USB-C ports in the charger - would be to "unbundle" the charger and let Mac buyers pick the charger they want. The only real objection I see to that is that Apple would probably use it to hide a stealth price rise.

No “compact” version of the adapter for the UK market. Sad times for the brits.
To be fair, that's "sad" for every other nation that doesn't use a US plug (i.e. most of the world). It's not like they're Brit bashing.

Who the hell is going to buy a charger for $70 to begin with? 🤦🏼‍♂️

The only reason we end up with this stupidity from Apple is because people buy this crap.
Totally see your point (Anker) that there are high quality alternatives out there. Apple does make a high quality product though, and their charger probably won't burn down your tree house.

It’s about par for what I’ve seen on Amazon. I’m not saying ALL similar chargers are priced this way, but it isn’t outside of the range. Anywhere on Amazon, you can find chargers of different power outputs. I was able to get a deal on the 65W UGreen (Apple MFi) for under $40 at the time. I won’t be buying an Apple charger, but I can understand the people who would prefer to have one.

I would say, these chargers would fall into the higher end of prices I have seen online for 35W. If you want the Apple warranty piece of mind, shop from manufacturers who have the MFi certification.

Nobody getting this with their new M2 Air for "free" can really complain.

I just don't get why this isn't three ports, three USB-C or two C and one A?

Most MacBook owners I know also want to charge some wireless earbuds, a smart watch or a power bank at the same time as their iPhone and MacBook is charging.

Every other competitor is making chargers with at least three ports and most, if not all, are higher than 35 watts total.

Sure, if this came with iPhones or was marketed as the new iPhone charger, then it would make sense since there's no implication that you own a laptop, and 35 watts is fine for an iPhone + AirPods or iPhone + Apple Watch.

Why couldn't they go all out with a three USB-C charger @65-100 watts? Then the price would be justified.

Mine shipped early, so it’s arriving this afternoon. Thanks for the update, MR, as I don’t read much on the Apple site these days, as I’m all set for devices until something fails.

Sorry to let all the MR Anker fanboys down, but I’m sort of looking forward to unplugging the 12W charger from the extension cable on my kitchen table and replacing it with this dual charger. The USB-C/lightning cables that came with my AirPods Pro and my iPhone 12 will now become useful to me. Yeah, it’s $60, but it’s only the second standalone charger I’ve purchased since 2005.

Apple's first foray into dual port chargers. Cut them some slack. I mean, in two or three years they'll finally figure out people need higher wattage to actually charge their MacBook or iPad and another device. In the meantime, literally every other charger manufacturer gets better, more powerful, and cheaper. This device is pretty embarrassing.

So you're excited because your charger has an Apple logo on it instead of the word "Anker"? Because the Anker is just as high quality, more powerful and cheaper. I don't think you're letting anyone down.

I have a Ugreen 65w GaN charger with 3 usb c ports and one usb a! the only charger i use for everything and the only charger i need to carry with me in our vacations! And it was 50$ if I remember correctly!

Bonus it’s very small and compact
I was a happy Ugreen user, just like you are, until mine blew itself off two weeks ago (with sparks flying out of the USB-A socket). I was lucky that no devices were connected to it when this happened. You get what you pay for.

I tried using the 20W that came with my iPad mini for my Macbook Air when studying once, the percentage did not go up at all. Not even heavy usage, just watching videos and doing flashcards.

I do have an intel MBA though, but the wattage they chose is still ridiculous. If they release something like this for the MBP I might just get that one.
That 20w model has compatibility problems in general, I’ve found it wont reliably charge my watch for instance. An anker nano 20w powers my last gen quad core intel MBA just fine though

Unless you guys drop the massive square 3 pin plugs and switch to something like the rest of mainland Europe. Chargers don't need earth, but you would still need the earth pin to open the other 2 slots, hence it being difficult to make a compact charger. South Africa is slowly switching over to Schuko plugs with new buildings. They still have the old round UK 3 pin plugs, just big enough for a child's finger.

Agreed, it’s a perplexing product, and having these two versions of it is even more weird. I know it’s not the first time they’ve done it, but still.

I have a RAVPower 90W GaN dual USB-C PD charger that doesn’t look to be much bigger than this, and it’s fantastic.
Seems like choice for the consumer. If one travels get the big brick. Don’t travel and live in North America get the small brick.

That’s still a good thing, though. The percentage didn’t go up BUT you were able to study longer than if you’d not plugged in.

Was gonna buy a couple but decided to wait. Knowing apple well enough, they’ll release an updated version 1 or 2 years out that will be 40 watts
Actually, after that, they’ll release a version 3 or 4 that will do 60 watts, so better to wait for that. Wait a minute, after that, they’ll likely release a version 5 or 6 that will do 100 watts, best to wait on THAT one.. on the OTHER hand…

Eh, some folks are excited about Anker logos, some are excited about Apple logos. :)

This charger MUST internally be more than 35W, because no electrical switch is 100% efficient. If it offers JUST 35W when one device is plugged in, it can’t physics-ally provide 17.5 watts when two high demand devices are plugged in. WHAT IS APPLE HIDING?!?!?

My excitement is about a dual charger that fits my existing Apple extension cables. If I purchased the high quality, more powerful and cheaper Anker charger, I would either need to purchase two long USB-C cables to reach from the power outlet to my tabletop, or plug the high quality, more powerful and cheaper Anker charger into a regular extension cord and place it on my tabletop. It's a personal preference for the look of the Apple extension's connection to the charger.
