Apple brings it on itself. Releasing guidelines/tips/instructions for cleaning and protecting one's credit card. A comedian couldn't make this up. And some fanboys defend this release by saying that Apple posts cleaning advice for all their products. If Apple and its fans consider the credit card to be a product then Apple really has hit rock bottom.

There is no doubt that the Apple Card is an Apple product. It looks, feels and even sounds cool. Classic Apple design sensibilities at work here.

That said, as always, the haters go after the low hanging fruit when it comes to bashing Apple and miss the bigger picture.

In an ideal world, the credit card will not see use at all, nor should people need one because they would just use Apple Pay for everything. Apple believes as much with the physical credit card accruing rewards at a slower rate compared to the Apple Pay version.

Over time, Apple believes that the physical credit card is a legacy device that will see decreased usage over time, as more places adopt Apple Pay over the next couple of years.

Apple’s attitude towards it is reflected as such here. You just have to be willing to look beyond the here and now.

Why mention an ideal world when the world is not ideal? Get out of your tower every so often.

The internet had its fun poking at this debacle. It is after all just a credit card which normally is meant to be carried. What Apple did here was value aesthetics unnecessarily so, which is not a bad thing but it’s also incredibly comical considering a credit card’s niche.

Some people are so anal that they will not shop at places that don’t accept mobile payments. However for most people, wireless payments are still not ubiquitous, so the physical card is still needed.

The funniest part of Abazigals "you just can't see the bigger picture" posts is that they often fail to consider the bigger picture outside of the Apple bubble. Most people are going to do what's easiest/best for them not what is best for Apple.

Even when contactless payments are ubiquitous people might still prefer to use their card rather than wielding their smartphone at the checkout.

For instance here in the UK we are some way ahead of the US in banking terms and most banks issue their customers with contactless cards and have done for several years. The cards can be used for 'tap to pay' in most major outlets.

Apple Pay just isn't really a big deal here, sure some people use it but its honestly easier just to tap your card on the reader. That is before you consider how awkward the Apple Pay process is on non Touch ID iPhones.

I use contactless payment practically everyday of the year, I pretty much never use my iPhone.

Apparently there is nothing Apple won't provide them with to whine about.
How To Care For Your Credit Card. Pleeze! That's just a little too much. :)
How To Care For Your Credit, might have been a better choice.
This isn’t a plastic Visa.

Tell me the downside of offering suggestions to keeping the card looking good? You still have 3 options:

1) Do nothing and let whatever happen to the card.

2) Take care of it as suggested.

3) Don’t get the card.

The incessant whining gets so old. You guys hate no matter what.

Look beyond the here and now? If people weren't so thoroughly blinded living in the "eco system", there wouldn't be a need to question the value here. I have realized part of living in Apple's eco system is accepting their idea of a fantasy world. I just can't believe people are so gullible and easily influenced by brand identity and loyalty that they will justify anything Apple does no matter how absurd.

I don't subscribe to the idea that anyone who doesn't get sucked in by Apple's sales pitch is a hater or angry. Just not true. It's called using common sense.

Wise words shared by many. It really is a fantasy world some of the Apple devotees choose to live in.

Agreed. I think Apple was indeed forward looking to create Card – and yes it is a product – as a digital payment option with the very nice integration into wallet that can help folks better manage their credit usage, have easy access features like locking a number, etc. Making the physical card optional appeals to those who find value in the digital payment side but not the physical since, as folks have pointed out, there are better cards to use if you actually need or want to swipe.

At the end of the day, the card is free and it's pretty cool looking as far as cards go, so why not get one? You certainly don't have to use it, so don't activate it, but if you do, assume it will get all scratched up like any other card, even the metal ones like my Amazon Prime card. But it should last longer than your typical plastic card if you do use it, just don't expect it to look new.

It's my opinion too that the product notes are over the top. All cards get discolored in a dyed leather wallet or kept in a pair of jeans, which are also dyed.

This is mat white coating. It's normal it will react with denim etc. You are so stupid here.

I’m not being stupid at all. You design a card to be used a credit card. And you know that most credit cards are kept in wallets (of which a great deal are leather) and sometimes people put them in their pockets (jeans being a very popular item of clothing).

So at some point someone has made the design decision that the look of the item is more important than the utility of the item. Which is pretty much as apple as it gets e.g. denying that a 2 button mouse is a thing because of it doesn’t look nice. Or having the charger port of the Apple mouse under the mouse so you can’t use it whilst it’s charging. All because it looks better.

I get it! I sometimes “suffer” for aesthetic (especially financially!) but at least I’m not pretending that there’s a valid reason beyond the “look”. That’s when it all goes it bit nuts really. It gets all a bit ”zoolander” when you start believing the hype. What do they call it? “The Steve jobs distortion field” :)

Waiting to see a card protector made the same way as a clear screen protector, just apply and fold over the back down to the magnetic stripe.

Ya know you can just actually be a man and reply to the person that actually said this. If Apple didn't post this, there would instead be 15 pages of whiny crybabies bitching because Apple didn't give them better instructions on caring for their card. You see, Apple can't win against people that will always find something to whine about. Like you.

Perhaps you meant "you" when you typed "ya"? I would fully support Apple if they did not provide instructions on how to care for the card and "whiny crybabies bitched". Good evening.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Yeah, you have a good one too. (and yeah means yes in case there's a question)

I have to say what weird times we live in. Seriously people worried about how to keep a CC card clean or pristine? LMAO.

When any of my CC gets very worn out, I just request a new one from the issuer. It usually comes in less than two weeks and free of charge. If Apple charges for a replacement then you should not consider getting one. Greed has limits.

I am a huge Apple fan for decades, but at least I think, I have limits. For some people, just this is just a cult mindset without any limits.

You are right it's a card like so many other cards. Funny thing is I can use whatever card I like with Apple Pay. Apple's credit card is just another metal credit card that happens to have Apple's name on it. Funny thing is that not having the actual credit card number on the card is being treated as some ground breaking idea. Not bashing, not attacking, just amused that so many are seriously talking about care instructions for a credit card. I joked a while back about a card protector, and it appears there are some who are talking seriously about this. Seems almost surreal to me.

Talking about how to clean and care for a credit card. Not to mention Apple actually released a document to the fact. I have never seen anything so ridiculous in my life. If there is anything to learn from all this hype, is that this is a great example of the lengths Apple will go to to pull people into the eco system, and those who blindly follow are eating it up like candy.

Cant wait for the Apple toothbrush or toilet paper. I am sure it will be ground breaking and will come with a white paper on how to use the Applebrush and iPaper.

From BGR:
“Please, for the love of God, shut up about the Apple Card getting ruined by leather and denim”

I couldn’t agree more!

And this wallet solves the “problem” perfectly. AC won’t come into contact with leather since the center pocket of this wallet is lined with polyester or nylon fabric.

Yeah this is funny. I mean my other plastic cards from constant use sliding in and out of wallet, card readers. They're gonna get scuffed no matter what. So worrying about this is just plain dumb. It's like Trailer Queen cars/Trucks. My only legit concern is the magnetic strip not working because it gets too scuffed. Because it doesn't seem like the same durable strip like on plastic cards. But so far most places I go I can use my Phones Apple Pay wallet. Only the Gas Pump is where I need to use a physical card for now the most. I haven't run into any stores yet that I typically shop at that doesn't accept mobile/Apple Pay. Except 1. It was Fry's Electronics. Of all places a store known for selling tech doesn't have higher tech payment POS. Although while I was there the many shelves were barren. I think it's going out of business. Or will be. In fact I noticed too their weekly ad online they pulled any Apple product advertising when they used to feature it all the time.

So what they are saying - just leave the card at home.

It's already in your phone and we already use the tap feature..whats the point if we are moving away from physical cards...

Ah apple and priorities..
