This might be just my personal failing, but I haven't seen or been able to find a single picture of a "dirty" Apple card anywhere.

Can someone post one, please? I want to know how bad this issue is. (Just out of interest. I have no plans to get a card.)

theVerge post in 3 .... 2 .... 1 ..... :D

I meant that 'soon enough they'll be an article'

Ah. Fair enough.

But odd this is apparently an issue so great that Apple has posted advice and there are 15 pages of comments, yet there's no evidence I can find of an actual problem.

I can’t express just how unbelievably tragic this is. No card I have comes with such care instructions. You can’t put it in a leather wallet or a jeans pocket. Where is it expected to be stored? On a cupboard shelf in its own special cas?

Stupid, ill-conceived, silly (or worse), sure.

But tragic? Really??? If this is tragic, we have a 1% of 1% of 1st world problem, and I just don't think this rates. I do agree with your specific complaints, though.

It might behoove you to actually read the Apple document. It states, "Some fabrics, like leather and denim, might cause permanent discoloration that will not wash off." It doesn't say, "Don't do it." It simply states that doing so may present the possibility of discoloring the card in some situations. This doesn't mean it WILL happen, especially in most situations. It's just so they can say they told you so if anything adverse ever happens to your card from wear and tear. The wording here isn't much different from how any other company writes care instructions for their products.

In fairness, the white balance on those pix is way off. A sheet of bright white paper would look dirty yellow photographed with those settings. OTOH, the magnetic strip shows serious issues. It's hard to believe it's more fragile than other cards, but it sure looks terrible. On the other other hand, though, how often is a card swiped today? Very, very seldom. Most readers now want chipped cards.

You know things have gone too far when there are unboxing videos and cleaning instructions for a credit card...lol.

Has Apple not learned anything from the paint flaking off the Titanium Powerbook G4?

It has a magnetic strip? I thought Apple was all about dropping legacy technologies like headphone ports.

I have zero use for the physical card as I’ve got others that are always going to pay higher rewards. Since the card is apparently a delicate little snowflake, I’m going to have mine matted and framed behind glass, and I’ll hang it on the wall where I can gaze at it and admire it all day long without ever having to worry about it being damaged. :D

Well, problem solved then.

Apple is probably about the only company in the world that would be subjected to widespread media hand-wringing over ‘weargate’ or some other nonsense.

Apple brings it on itself. Releasing guidelines/tips/instructions for cleaning and protecting one's credit card. A comedian couldn't make this up. And some fanboys defend this release by saying that Apple posts cleaning advice for all their products. If Apple and its fans consider the credit card to be a product then Apple really has hit rock bottom.

My Debit and Credit card are beat to death. I guess that is why companies send you a new one every few years. I wish gas stations had Apple Pay at the pump, that really is the last remaining area that I need a physical card.
