These ads just emphasize the poor choice of name. Should have been POD.

The iPod is dead and it would've been nice to see the name persist. HomePod doesn't go well together and Home itself is far too specific for a device that'll be used in offices, retail, etc.

POD would have fit with Apple's newest products: MUSIC, TV, WATCH. HomePod seems like an outlier.
The pattern leads me to think Apple Speaker. I actually like HomePod.

The Ad team couldn’t come up with something a little more creative?
Just wait.

This settles it...
It’s a music player that also does Siri. Nothing wrong with that, I just wasn’t sure which direction they were trying to go.

I’m not sure how you couldn’t be sure. Apple has said, repeatedly and from the beginning, that Homepod’s focus is music.

.....There is certainly nothing that lets one know that this is an Alexa or Google Home alternative.

That’s the LAST thing Apple wants....to be seen as an Alexa or Google Home “alternative,” as you say. Apple is defining a *unique* space for HomePod, and then it intends to dominate that space, which is good marketing. If Apple makes people think “I love music, and HomePod is all about the music” then it will have succeeded.

Still not even sold out or delivery date changed this isnt gonna do well and wish they woukd stop using trap artists
and if they were sold out we’d hear:

‘Apple are artificially restricting stock to create perceived demand!!’

or...

‘I thought Tim Cook was a supply chain guru?! Worst product release ever!!!’

But instead it’s,

‘HomePod still in stock = flop!!’

You guys have an answer for everything lol!

Also the fact it’s available in only 3 countries means stock is bound to be more available than other launches.

What in the hell, these ads are hideous, very unconventional, looks very low budget.

I don't think these ads are intended to demonstrate the product in it's entirety, it's just meant to touch on areas that the HomePod will deliver with bass, equalizer, distortion, etc. The only true measurement of understanding the HomePod is hearing it and experiencing in person, no advertisement will ever be able to fully deliver the HomePod experience because it's based on audio primarily.

Apple today shared its first series of HomePod ads on its official YouTube channel, titled Bass, Beat, Distortion, and Equalizer.

homepod-mesh-800x471.jpg

The four ads are each 15-second clips that show the word HomePod animated in various ways, with the actual speaker only appearing in brief flashes. Apple also highlights that the speaker is now available to order ahead of its February 9th launch in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.

The music-focused ads are each set to their own song, including Ain't I by Lizzo, DNA by Kendrick Lamar, Holy Water by Hembree, and All Night by Big Boi. Apple continues to position the HomePod as a "breakthrough speaker" first and "intelligent home assistant" second in the description of each video.

The four ads follow Apple's teaser video titled Introducing HomePod shared back in June, after the speaker was previewed at WWDC 2017.

Apple has primarily positioned the HomePod as a speaker that can stream Apple Music, but with built-in Siri, users can also send messages, set timers, play podcasts, check the news, control HomeKit-enabled smart home accessories, and complete several other tasks without needing to take out their iPhone.

The high-fidelity speaker is equipped with spatial awareness and Apple-engineered audio technology, including a seven-tweeter array and high-excursion woofer. It stands nearly seven inches tall and is powered by Apple's A8 chip.

Just ordered mine. Can’t wait!

For those of you who don’t understand or can’t appreciate the breakthrough innovation Apple brought to market with HomePod, you should read this:

It’s not about bringing another dumb assistant to market. Seriously, if you want the best assistant, get an Apple Watch. It’s far more capable and more economical than plugging in cheap “smart” speakers throughout the house; not to mention, some of the greatest benefits of these assistants is being able to control things when you’re NOT home.

Google and Amazon have no problems advertising theirs, but their focus isn't primarily music which from the looks of these ads is Apple's focus.

Which would you focus on if you created a speaker with siri? Yep, I'd focus on apple music (something apple wouldn't mind pushing as it's a revenue stream) and speaker quality too because AI isn't a huge strength right now.

Could you please stop calling HomePod "high fidelity". We know NOTHING about its frequency fidelity or range, among other things. And it's probably not a high fidelity speaker anyway. We don't even know nothing about the so called "Apple processed stereo": does 2 home pods really reproduced the stereo image encoded in music files? Again we don't know. But Apple itself refrain to use the words :"HIFI" and "STEREO". Which is highly suspect. HIGHLY.

Thanks for “sharing” those ads  Doesn’t sharing imply some sort of benefit? Ads, especially these, clearly are not beneficial or worthy of the word “share”.

Love the mini tease, doesn’t need to be extravagant until things have launched fully

I’m invested into 11 Alexa’s within my house, excited to see if I’ll slowly replace each Alexa with a HomePod! Can’t wait for mine to get here!

They’re clever but would kind of wreak havoc as a migraine trigger for me if I were to see them on my big screen tv.

I got an email invitation to preorder a HomePod. I just don’t have the money or confidence in the product at the moment.

@ipedro I find myself in agreement with you today on yet another topic. I do think the name IS confusing.

We have iPhones. Apple Watches. Apple TV. And now Home Pod. I’ve taken to referring to my iPhone as an Apple Phone because my brain is your typical worn out mom brain that calls the kids by the dog’s name. I like to keep things simple and easy to remember.

And partly as a result of what you mention (and that there is no large market and competitors that are much better) there is plenty of stock still available on day two (despite prior reports of constrained supplies).

This really has to be one of their weirdest launches ever. Your average Joe doesn't even know this exists, tech experts aren't fully aware what it's fully capable of... And man these ads don't help that.
