Yeah, because the hell with all that money they make. He runs the most successful company in the history of the world.

That shows either how brilliant he is or how gullible people who continue to buy their products are.

So great now I can't even access my shared drives through SMB or AFP. All Apple products here. This update just killed File sharing. So now what Apple?

10.13.2 PB 5 is out. I supposed that Apple addressed yesterday’s root issue with this release. Will it?

I remember seeing the demo of Exposé and being blown away. After getting used to it (And loving it) every time I used a windows machine I found my self trying to use the shortcuts and nothing would happen lol . I had it setup to use hot corners.

Panther is when I decided to move to the Mac.

Scott was forced out by Cook et al when he refused to sign the Maps horror story confession. Cook wants collective blame whereas Scott told him where to go but then Cook told Scott where to go. Sad. I actually like Craig F. as he is brilliant on stage and a very charismatic individual in person.

Yes, they totally underestimated and undermanned the map project.

For Craig F, I think that he is overwhelmed by the complexity and needed focus of Apple‘s Software needs (And maybe so was Forstall). Maybe he‘s too kind or open and or just not anal enough, but I never received him as especially charismatic beyond the usual Apple-typical freedom in leadership positions, including the typical over-excited „we love it. Until it turns out to be crap“ attitude of higher management postitions these days. Engineer turned manager, happily loving all the wonders each day brings and which he never could have anticipated (which might be the whole problem after all).

I liked Serlet a lot, as he knew what to keep under tighter control to not mess up. Maybe Craig F. Has too many cool projects at his hands and is not good at staffing a well led testing and security group, can‘t say. It‘s just way too much desasters these days.

From my perspective, Apple should have a dedicated senior VP of software security/qa right besides the software dev vp to show that they are serious about what happened over the last year or two. An adjacent muscle brings stabilty and control...

This is counter to the founding ideology Steve set in place. Haven't you watched any of those dozen Steve Jobs movies?

You're obviously crazy, Cook's only made Apple the most valuable brand in the world, made iPhone the most popular phone in the world, made Apple Watch (and smartwatches in general) ubiquitous, and made investors wildly wealthy! He's clearly terrible for the company, and must go now!/s

1. Cook didn't come aboard until late 1998...iPhone was already a success. Steve was too smart not to leave at least a five year plan in place once he knew he was terminal.
2. Apple Watch...Once again, IMHO, Steve had probably laid groundwork as he was delving into health. Come on...introducing a product with one that retailed at 10K?
3. Cook has changed functionality with the hardware to achieve maximum profit margins. Raised the price on MBP's along with now having to buy dongles (which are probably, very high margin items) (Jony, where are you in this?)

Yes, Apple has changed, not sure for good. It would seem at this point that if he fails to deliver to shareholders, that could be his downfall. IMHO, he has become too much of a SJW and does not listen to the Mac Pros that, I believe, helped elevate this company to what it was. As far as I can see, the key Executives seem to be more focused on their net worth & stock options, than to further move the company forward in areas of innovation. (Angela... Genius Grove...???)

We have had too many promise of 'new' pipeline products. Mac Pro...seems to be dead...$5k for a base iMac Pro...Really?!

To me, it's kinda sad that I may have purchased my last iProducts......

OK. off the soapbox. Been apple since 1984......now they are a consumer appliance company.

I was just asked to update again, again. Did the second update patch the root bug and keep file sharing intact?

[Looks like this second update moved my build number from 17B1002 to 17B1003, with the KB article says "includes additional bug fixes"-- I really wish Apple was more transparent in their revision notes...]

Ummm why is App Store asking me to update again? "Security Update 2017-001" Looks like the same thing to me.

Can't say I'm sorry I'm still on Sierra. (And I only updated from El Capitan this summer.) Sometimes it pays to be patient.

That said, Apple getting caught with its tail between its legs is inexcusable for a company and an operating system of its alleged caliber.

I'd be more than pleased if they decided to realease a new OS once every two to three years, like they had for a few releases last decade. Snow Leopard and its brethren were rock-solid because they had been baking for a good period of time. Apple is too quick to rush half-baked products to market now, and customers are rightfully upset when they find its still mushy on the inside.

I've been an Apple user since 1995, and I'll admit I've got a fair amount invested in their products, with respect to my natural workflow. That said, I've got a 2010 MacBook Pro and an iPhone 6S; unless Apple starts to change its tune real soon, these are the last pieces of Apple hardware I will be buying for some time. It's not that I don't wish to remain with the Macintosh - the UNIX underbelly is a huge plus for me - but I'm not willing to continue to invest in a company that increasingly doesn't give a #%&$ about its user base. (To be frank, I don't like the direction most tech companies are headed - but that's another topic entirely.)

Planned obsolescence, shoddy software, extravagant pricing... You've really got to be drinking the Kool-Aid to think that Apple is doing nothing wrong.

1. Yes, iPhone was a success, but only became the icon it is much later in Steve’s time at Apple (4-4s era). Yes he laid out a 5 year plan, but from everything we heard, he had only put in major input on the 4s and the 5. Probably knew about what would eventually become Touch ID on the 5s, but more as an abstract idea, not as a concrete feature. iPhone has been breaking records nearly every quarter, and has seen monster growth since the 5s forward. Cook was firmly at the helm by 2013-14. He gets the acclaim for the iPhone success from then forward.
2. Jonny Ive has said the  Watch was in its infancy in 2011, so the year Steve passed. He may have had an inkling of what may come, but certainly very little input.  Watch is a Cook-era success. The gold Edition watches were extravagant, but at the time  Watch was being launched as 3 distinct wearables (Sport, Business Casual, and Luxury), Apple saw what didn’t work, and introduced the much more affordable ceramic Edition watches.
3. Let’s not pretend that Apple hasn’t charged premium prices for hardware under Steve’s 2nd era. The 2000s saw plenty of expensive Apple hardware. The Power Mac G4 Cube, original MacBook Pro, original MacBook Air, and the last Mac Steve probably had extensive focus on, the 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina Display. They all cost a pretty penny at the time, and were chastised for being so expensive, and all but one of those were called out for a perceived lack of IO then as well. Look at the original iPhone and iPod, both very expensive when launched, and were very proprietary, but they were total cash cows for Apple. The iPad didn’t run Flash and was accosted by the naysayers, and had plenty of dongles to connect it outwards. Apple does this stuff, people get riled up, said people use the product, lean to look past their current day complaints and wind up loving it, everyone forgets about perceived shortcomings within 1-3 years.

I agree, Apple has changed, but I do see it for the better. Apple definitely took too long bringing Pro products back to the forefront, but truthfully, they aren’t going to be always focused on an undeniable niche, when their major customers are now typical consumers. They have shown they can do both, and are now. The iMac Pro is coming, the Mac Pro is on the horizon, the MacBook Pro was spec bumped and is pretty well reviewed, if not acclaimed, by most. Yes, Tim Cook is willing to speak out on social isssues much more than Steve was. Why is that bad? Believe it or not, Cook is a human being, who has emotions and opinions. Just because Steve was a pompous, ego driven CEO, doesn’t mean that Cook has to be as well. Apple is a leader in progressive ideas and diversity championing. That’s a good thing. When more people are given the chance to succeed, we get more innovation. Apple also has a fairly big pulpit that it can throw around to defend its customers and workers, as well as the environment. Attacking a man for defending the marginalized communities in society is such an odd way to try and explain your perceived lack of attention for the Prosumers from Apple. In reality, while the pro market may have helped Apple scrape along in the late 90s/early 2000s (a cash infusion from Microsoft definitely helped), once iPod came into the picture, it rapidly became the typical consumer who elevated Apple, and truly gave them the cash flow to make the iPhone, iPad,  Watch, as well as many of the Pro products that have come along since 2001, which make little profit, but require plenty of R&D.

While you may be facing the end of you iProduct buying days, I see no end in sight for me. I love my iPhone X, my iPad Pro, my  Watch, my TV, as well as my MacBook Air, and eventually my HomePod. Apple has only made these products better and enticed me more.

I remember my first Apple product, I was a 3 years old when my family got our iMac G3 Graphite special edition in 2000, since that day, Apple has very seldom let me down. In the days of Tim Cook, it has been remarkably few.

The 'solution' requires using the Terminal.app GUI. That requires you to type obscure, cryptic commands that nobody understands. What the heck is Apple playing at? This is a total disaster.

I agree.., Apple should be pushing out an update, not asking users to fix this via Terminal.

Saw this in Apple’s notes on the security fix since it temporarily killed my Time Machine server. Glad that was short-lived.

Time for Cook to resign. His tenure has been a disaster.

As indicated by their share price. Right.

I wonder if the 17B1003 build breaks anything else.
So updated for fixes that break and fixes some things.

I wonder if they want to intentionally destroy macOS so they can market iOS as the most secure OS ever and get rid of the Mac line (which doesn’t get much love). iOS single user devices which doesn’t have this issue (maybe they have but it’s under the hood as you didn’t have multiple users...)
