I think they will do a new line to replace it.

Here's my problem. Why is it that Apple's stocks are rising just because of Samsung's issues? Why didn't the other competitors stock rise as well?

Something's not right.

Because there's only two companies that make any profit in the smartphone industry. Only two that, in the public perception, are smartphones. You buy a Galaxy or you buy an iPhone. All the others are also-rans

It's a complete loss! The phones would just be destroyed.
That's why if I had a replacement Note 7 coming to me in the mail today I would keep it as a collectors item. The phone would be worth tons of money in 20 to 30 years if unopened and never powered up. Today it would be near impossible to find a Note 7 here in the United States by any carrier. Believe it or not a sealed Note 7 is worth more right now than retail cost.

Spot on. If someone has received a replacement unit and it's still unopened. Keep it that way, it will go up in price as a collectors unit.

Sorry. Why would 'Tim Cook and Co' be raising a glass of champagne with an inviting look of congratulatory respect? To whom? Samsung? "Congratulations on everything going really badly for you" - That's fairly nasty. Or maybe "look at us, the elite Apple team capitalising on the unfortunate demise of others"?

God, people are so sanctimonious.
Maybe just their stock price being the highest of the year.

It's not just that everyone will benefit with more sales.

The stock has a pretty good dividend based on company performance and increases yearly. If you check the other companies, they won't have a return on investment anywhere near Apple. I bought Apple stock 2 years ago at about $103 and made roughly $100 Dividend per period and increased valuation of $10/share overall.

The Samsung debacle will increases Apple's overall sales numbers disproportionately more than any other manufacturers which will help with Apple's sales and projections which will increase dividends for, shareholders.

Here is a decent read.

That is a real shame as we've seen how lackluster Apple can become without strong competition breathing down their neck. The share price hike is premature as there is no evidence that Note 7 users will switch to the iPhone. They're far more likely to switch to the Galaxy S7 which is a very good phone or other Android phones. There is a reason so many people buy Android phones - millions of people hate Apple with a passion. That's not going to change because of this.

Variations of this comment have been posted many times in this thread. When were Apple lacklustre due to not having competition?

Let this be a lesson to them next time to worry more about putting out an actual quality product rather than cutting corners in a rush to beat Apple to market.

Cutting corners... of course!

How else can you make them rounded?

I would say the iPhone 7 is a good example. Then there is iTunes - once they killed off all the competitors they just gave up improving it. Same with the iPod. The MB doesn't have much competition and look how long we've been waiting for an update. That's not to mention all the customers they simply gave up on and left in the lurch, like Aperture users, iWeb users, Server users, Mac Pro users.

Nice bait thread title. Couldn't leave it at Apple's finances, had to throw Samsung's name in there. How many added clicks did that net you?

In a month where Apple's dying Mac lineup was supposed to be revamped, MacRumors has gotten to the bottom of the story... By posting article after article of incremental beta updates as front-page news. Well done.

I guess I'm missing the big picture. I visit websites like this because Apple products interest me. But all I get from this site now are shareholder results and software developer ads. Thanks.

just does not make sense to me why you would even know about this site. You obviously even have the page bookmarked. How many heads rolled there at Samsung this month. Do you sit close to HR?

Huh? But I thought the Samsung S7 Edge with its *clears throat* Edge to Edge QHD display, wireless charging blah blah (insert the rest of the list copied and pasted around here endlessly) was the greatest thing ever, right up until the Note 7. Did Apple have foreknowledge of the Note 7 issues a year ago? Hasn't iPhone share never been smaller globally?

It doesn't make any sense. Apple had the least competition back in the 4/4s/5/5s days and some would say they were the best things they ever produced. The argument just doesn't fly.

TL;DR you and others repeating the "Apple are flagging because of no strong competition" appear to be saying the S7/S7 Edge and the S6/S6 Edge before are not strong competition. I mean, I'd agree to some extent (though those Edges look/feel pretty nice to me) but I'm surprised to see you and other who say it, say it.

My quote was about directly answering the question that was asked. The question was: "How do you know they are on the supplier list ?? Do you work in Apple or have access to their supply chain information??" It was a simple asked and answered.
That Samsung fabbed many of Apple A-series processors has been well known for years. Samsung SSDs have been found in Macs equally. And whenever a new iDevice is released somebody takes it apart and figures out which components come from which supplier. You don't have to have sources in the supply chain, the markings on the internal components usually make it clear where they come from. Similarly, it is sufficient when journalists have sources in the supply chain. I don't have to see something physically with my own eyes to be convinced of its existence.

Yes in collecting, unopened items generally are worth more.
However, the item has to be desired, rare, or has some cultural significance.
I'm not sure a Samsung Note7 applies.

Should we feel bad for them? hell no.
Karma is a bitch, inst she?
Seriously they had it coming after all these years mocking apple, they even made fun of the iPhone 6's bending issue. Apple has said nothing about this problem, they stay classy while enjoying extra demand for i7 PLUS. I hope Samsung learns from now on.

Like how? Offering a fire blanket as free accessory to the first 1,000,000 buyers? Calling the 3.5mm jack a chimney?
A battery explosion case happened with Powerbooks around ten years ago. Also, do you remember when iPhones could harm (and even kill) people with electric shocks?

Reportedly original (iPad) charger connected to an iPhone:

Until now, we don't have reports that the Note 7 explosion issue has killed people. Moreover, a smartphone or laptop should not produce a fatal discharge on the owner if we remind that even touching a metal part of an wall outlet doesn't usually kill people. A phone should open the circuit once it received an abnormal discharge. It's a basic principle: a phone should not kill someone, it doesn't matter which charger he/she uses.

First up. They didn't release a Note every year. Note 6 was non-existent.

Secondly, there are TONS of reports saying how Samsung rushed and pressured their suppliers to push forward the launch of the Note 7 because they heard iPhone 7 would not have anything revolutionary and they want the upper hand.

So you're wrong on both accounts.
The Note 5 was released last year, they skipped 6 to catch up to 7. No correlation between years and version numbers anyway.

Since when is Apple in the computer business?

What do you want? They depend on Intel, and that will continue for at least another two or three years. Intel has gone back to their pre-AMD slumber, they will only wake up and start delivering if another competitor pops up and steps on their toes again.

I take that as a cautionary comment for Apple's phone business as well.

Without a worthy competitor, expect still more incremental iPhone improvements. Does the 10th Anniversary iPhone have to live up to all the rumors? Why should it; demand will outstrip supply even if the device is nothing more than the equivalent of a 7s.

What's Apple's motivation to do more than the minimum required for each iPhone release? No one here are going anywhere if they don't.

Don't dance on Samsung's grave.

You seem to have misinterpreted what you've read. I wasn't the one asking that question. I was one answering it in a previous post. Bolded: I can simply look at their suppliers list.;) Which was the actual answer to the question you mistakenly attributed to me. Below is the answer I gave at #152.:)

Apple's supplier list is not some super secret information. They publish their top 200 suppliers pretty much every year. Yes, Samsung SDI is one of their suppliers. Suppliers List

This could affect consumer confidence in all smart phones.

No, people are not going to stop carrying smart phones. This will clearly hurt Samsung, but likely won't even impact Samsung that much in long term. Whatever replacement model they come up with they will probably offer some tremendous incentive, and consumers will bite on the attractive price and features. After sales go on for awhile and there aren't any exploding phones, many will flock back to Samsung for their next purchase correctly deducing that the problem has been fixed.

Difference between the two: Apple blamed the user and never fixed those *gate issues. Calling yourself courageous just shows how big of an ego you have.

Samsung is offering refunds. It takes courage to admit mistakes

Courage? They are treating consumers like fools. How can a multi-billion company fails its QC TWICE?

You are not right. People hate Apple because Apple is associated with the rich, the elites, the youths and the fashionistas. Most of them are jealous and most probably never owned or used an iPhone before. But if they have the means, they will jump the queue to buy and iPhone because of its association with power, youth and fashion.

Beware professional stock traders are just pumping and dumping AAPL which is actually trending down today.

Here's straight from Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam regarding Note 7 impact. Very few are downgrading to iPhone except out of temporary curiosity.

So far, he's seen that most Android operating system customers are very loyal to it, and so Samsung's other phone, the Galaxy S7, and Google's Pixel, are both selling. Apple has also seen a small boost, he said, but people "aren't flocking away from Samsung."

Correct.

And Apple now,is going to have to contend with Samsung in all probability trying to hit a grand slam with the next phone to regain as much market share

Just like "cell phones cause brain cancer" has slowed the market.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I wonder if the Pixel will replace the Galaxy phone as premium handset choice for Android. Samsung might still outsell Google, as they do Apple, but using low- and mid- cost handsets to make up the difference.
If that were to happen, Android would be in some serious trouble. No OEM is going to want to compete with their OS vendor for hardware sales-- particularly the high margin sales. I think they tolerate it as long as Google remains a boutique brand, but if they start dominating the charts then the other Android makers will seriously need to consider other options.
