Were they real cats? That's pretty bad if so. It's not super awful, it doesn't hurt cats that much when you do that, but they certainly don't tend to like it once they're grown up (it's fine for kittens), and those were big cats, presumably that makes it worse for them.

It looks like they were moving...and yeah I know thats how a lot of vets handle them but they were pretty big/heavy to be held by the scruff like that. Maybe im just more sensitive cuz I have a cat.

I saw this and loved it except for the part where they mistreated the two cats.
Shame on you Apple !
It only encourages more people to do this - no matter how little.
How would it be received if instead, heavens forfend, he held up two struggling babies and said "Black or White"

Shameful.

The cats were not hurt, or even in distress of any kind, so why shouldn't they be used? To say that it's the same as holding two "struggling babies" by which, I assume, you meant human babies, is a totally meaningless non sequitur. Cats have an evolutionarily acquired response to being held in this way witch includes relaxation, arching their spine, and curling their tails between their hind legs. It is a method often used to keep cats calm while performing necessary procedures.

I wasn't laughing at the cats being held that way - why would I laugh when someone does it to my pets?

The video was meant to show 'weird people' and odd behaviors - and the guy holding cats like that was a weird person holding the cats in an odd manner. I wouldn't consider it 'mishandling', only odd.

And I wouldn't consider it something 'cool' or 'funny' to do. Where did you come up with that?

And if those were HIS cats, he can do that. Just like I can put a halloween costume on my dog if I want. Both things are 'odd'. My dog probably hates wearing a halloween costume MORE than those cats like being held that way. So, am I 'mishandling my dog'?

If you deliberately do something to your dag that you know it hates then yes, I'd say that's mishandling it (with obvious exceptions eg vets).

You have cats do you ?

I'm afraid I didn't like this opening at all. I didn't find it funny. I wasn't entertained; just irritated. I was relieved to get to Craig Federighi's presentation. Now he was funny, entertaining and engaging to watch.

Sorry I can't be more positive.
Totally agree with you there. The opening was terrible. I didn't laugh once, felt the ending was predictable. Just awful. What was Apple thinking?

It's my opinion that the intro comedy video made no sense to me and didn't relate to the actual theme of the WWDC keynote. Did they expect us to believe there would be comedic sketches in the keynote? To me, it's juvenile and has no place. Now, Hader's a great comedian and his work on SNL is well known. To me, it's almost as if Apple was trying too hard or too clever to go with " The Producers " feel to it especially for Apple Music.

I'll bet it was Cook that approved it. What in hell kind of CEO would approve this kind of intro video for this WWDC event?

I get this feeling, again, that their attempt at humor was to 'laugh away' at the hidden problems they're having. It's like a kid who gets into trouble, comes home through the front door, and the parents confront him about what they heard. The kid goes " oh, you see. A funny thing happened.. heh heh...".

So what was the funny thing they were trying to hide? A huge failure of Apple TV negotiations that went down?? What was it?

So many attempts at deep analysis into something that was there just for fun (as a lighthearted icebreaker essentially).

This worked so well in many ways. Show that current Apple execs can take a laugh at themselves and get away with it. Also, there are many things that could have been mentioned but was not making it significant. No mention of Jobs nor Woz. I'm sure Woz would have done a cameo if asked.

No mentioning of the Swift programming language. The screw ups of getting the show going parallels software development to a tee! Lost it with the Tim Cook impersonators. Very nice nods to Monument Valley, Angry Birds and other apps. I swear the man on fire was a triple if not quadruple entendre.

Best WWDC intro video since the "I'm a PC. I'm a Mac." guys opened up WWDC years ago.

It looks like it was done in one of the theaters in downtown LA going under massive gentrification and kicking the ner-do-wells into east LA.

Exactly. Good jokes. Been in enough productions on set frantically working on a scene. A year later, you read the on-line discussions with deep symbolic analysis and just laugh at it. A lot of stuff on set are done out of mistake or necessity with no forethought.

It was a nice, change of pace comedy intro. It works for me. Scanning the crowd of the keynote last Monday, about 80% loved it and the rest were either questioning it or few total sociopaths where right out annoyed.

Whenever I have a team around me, I crack a few jokes to sort out who I want to work with and who reacts to the mirth, tragedy and achievement. The "smartest guy" that get their jollies of the failures of others, I often reassign out of the group quick.

Agreed, I found that part really uncomfortable.

Fake Tim Cook:

Yeah, the reason for Tim not giving stats is because the Watch has sold terribly.
Um, no. First off, the watch sold out in the first hour. Second, it's a new product that's been on the market for just six weeks and it's about to be for sale in stores for the first time next week. I rather think stats weren't given not only for reasons of this not being the time and place for such, but also because all the stats on the watch aren't in.

But let me ask you, exactly where did you get your stats on the watch's sales? And what counts for "terribly?" As compared to what?

Sorry to go slightly off topic (and a bit serious), but you don't actually think gentrification means getting rid of near-do-wells do you? Wasn't sure if that was serious or tongue in cheek.

Don't know if this was mentioned already, but wasn't PC guy from the old Mac commercials in the lift with all the Tim Cooks?

You are one of the few that get me here.

Agreed. That's what I felt they were doing at first with the fluid camera motion.

"Birdman" is awesome, but not for all tastes I have to say. I dragged a couple of friends to the movies to watch it and they were about to cut my throat when the credits rolled.

Really ? Best, most enjoyable film I've seen in years. I will say it was draining however - because of the 'nocut' effect you can't take your eyes of the screen for a second. It would not be a good film to watch if you were tired in the first place
