I had no idea it was an actor playing the part. I assume he's an actor. Or is he a comedian? Most of us outside the US have probably never heard of him. I certainly haven't. Oh wait, he's an "alum", whatever that is.

Anyway, i enjoyed it!

Yes, he was a regular on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. Alum meaning Alumni of SNL. He is doing more movies these days.

If that gets you an ever increasing following and sales then it sounds like it's a good way to go (if someone is thinking that's where they are going).

I think they were pretty aware - there were several tongue in cheek references to innovation, like the one about the blur when selecting split screen apps (I think that's when it was).

Let's first remind ourselves that this was for developers. They theoretically look for and at different things than users.

It wasn't new APIs that impressed be, it was all the little interface tweaks, but nobody seems to share my enthusiasm! I was a little drunk, maybe it wasn't as good as I remember.

Were they real cats? That's pretty bad if so. It's not super awful, it doesn't hurt cats that much when you do that, but they certainly don't tend to like it once they're grown up (it's fine for kittens), and those were big cats, presumably that makes it worse for them.

Yes, watch again. IME cats don't like being picked up that way (kittens yes, by their mothers). I would have had no problems if they each had had their own handler.

I saw this and loved it except for the part where they mistreated the two cats.
Shame on you Apple !
It only encourages more people to do this - no matter how little.
How would it be received if instead, heavens forfend, he held up two struggling babies and said "Black or White"

Shameful.

'Mistreated' cats by holding them up that way? Get real!

If you're lighting cats tails on fire - okay - be up in arms over that.

But to go overboard with THIS!?!?! It just creates a mockery of the entire situation. To suggest it's the same as holding up 2 human babies this way? Wow.

When people equate the simplest small trivial things to something bigger, it makes many people completely disregard the issue, and is probably the OPPOSITE of what you want. Cry wolf when there is actually something to cry wolf over, not something trivial like this.

A lot of people are happy about those tweaks. Just as a lot of people just overlooked them and don't realize that they are even there or what they would really mean for them (and of course there are some that truly don't care about them and aren't that happy).

OK, bet you will laugh like a drain when someone mishandles one of your pets.

Yes, watch it again.
Does that really identify what's real or not these days? Sometimes it's clear, other times it's not that much. I'm not saying that's the case here, just saying that simply watching and making a call based on that doesn't always mean that's what it actually was.

I wasn't laughing at the cats being held that way - why would I laugh when someone does it to my pets?

The video was meant to show 'weird people' and odd behaviors - and the guy holding cats like that was a weird person holding the cats in an odd manner. I wouldn't consider it 'mishandling', only odd.

And I wouldn't consider it something 'cool' or 'funny' to do. Where did you come up with that?

And if those were HIS cats, he can do that. Just like I can put a halloween costume on my dog if I want. Both things are 'odd'. My dog probably hates wearing a halloween costume MORE than those cats like being held that way. So, am I 'mishandling my dog'?

Yes, the cats didn't like that - watch again. Mishandling yes, mistreatment no.

Did the cats object - yes.
Is that mishandling - yes, IMO.

Oh really. Bet you they were stage cats rented for the occasion.

PS. I wouldn't handle my cats that way.

I wouldn't handle cats that way either.

My whole point is that this is not abuse, mistreatment or mishandling. Just odd.

If I saw someone doing that to their own cats, I would just think to myself 'what a weirdo'. If I saw someone lighting cats tails on fire, I would go up to them and intervene.

If I saw someone doing that to a cat _I_ owned, I would intervene. I don't want my cat being picked up that way. I would tell that someone 'don't touch my cats!'.

That was not only the best opener ever but one of the best short tech videos of all time. As someone who tries to understand the artistry of Apple designers and engineers, it made me think, laugh and even cry. Anyone who is a fan of Apple, their products and business should memorize every single word in it because it is the soul of Apple, like it or not.

Did you forget the satire tag?

I'm afraid I didn't like this opening at all. I didn't find it funny. I wasn't entertained; just irritated. I was relieved to get to Craig Federighi's presentation. Now he was funny, entertaining and engaging to watch.

Sorry I can't be more positive.

Please have a beer, a whisky shot, a wheatgrass juice, an herbal tea or something to chill. Look up surgeons that specialize entomorectalotomies while you are at it.
