Love how the ads promote that you need a watch to go workout. If you need a watch to motivate you to get off your lazy bum that's incredibly sad.

It promotes that the watch is a great additive to your workouts.

Getting to see the exact distance you have run, the calories you have burned, the next set you need to push through, exc. - all while skipping, pausing, playing your music, audiobooks, podcasts, and not missing a beat is a fitness lovers dream.

Agreed. I honestly forget that they exist. It's when I walk into an Apple Store when I think to myself: "Oh yeah, I forgot they make these." Never see them out in the wild. And they just look ugly (imo).
Since watch OS2, I've been seeing plenty of them "out in the wild". Of course our anecdotal evidence means nothing.

Yes, and I didn't like it one bit. To each their own, but facts are facts -- that is a chunky watch. Frankly, I think the Casio computer watches from '80s look better. At least they can pull off the retro look.
I've got several Swiss watches that are chunkier than the Apple Watch, and I love 'em. The Tissot T-Touch Solar Expert Pro is one of my favorites.

Fair enough. But you probably can't deny a lot of people ran out and bought these things because after all, it was APPLE and therefore it must be COOL!

I have heard that theory before. I am a bit skeptical people will slash that amount of money for a device that more then likely will end up warped in a case. I have tried quite few smartphones and always come back to iPhone because the issues I have had with Apple products in general are quite minimal. I respect your opinion on thinking people buy these things because of the Apple logo, I personally think people do trust Apple on making quality products (obviously not perfect)

  1. Apple releases product updates that are deemed "boring"
  2. People say that Apple's ads are terrible
  3. Apple is the most profitable company in the world
  4. People say Apple just has good marketing
They're doomed, I tell ya...

I didn't buy mine until they put 'em on sale, and at 62, I couldn't care less about appearing to be "cool".

I agree that if your phone is in your hand most of the time, a watch is superfluous. For the rest of us....
[doublepost=1481366381][/doublepost]

Quite true for me. The fitness stuff is totally useless to me. The Apple Watch has many other reasons listed elsewhere to justify it as a "wanted gift".

No one needs information every second about everything. But we use smart phones because we like information to be accessible. It's also why some people wear watches. The Apple watch makes some information more accessible. And it makes some junk texts *easier* to ignore, or other trivial texts easier to respond to, allowing you to take a longer break from the barrage of info.

The Apple watch will give you time and weather. And it will not *increase* the notifications and reminders -- it will merely make them less intrusive.

You have a Rolex knockoff that gives you the weather?

I concede that a Rolex knockoff will make people think you can afford a Rolex (at least some people, for a while), if that's what you want it to do.

I have a friend who bought an Oris mechanical chrono knockoff. It took me a few seconds to realize it is a quartz watch and none of the chrono functions actually work.

Muh PowerBook G5 with 5 USB ports!!!

I understand why Apple makes ads. I don't understand why ads deserve articles and discussions on this site.

And no, I'm not an Apple Watch hater. I use Series 2 myself with pleasure.

Apple Watch ads only exist for one thing....

Apple-Bonds.jpg

That's generally why all ads exist.

So that loads of people criticise the ad and the product in it as if they know better themselves.

Hardly exact. Read an article the other week about how inaccurate they all are and when it was put to the companies they were basically agreeing just in a roundabout way. Quick google and looks like the Apple watch is way out:

Good lawd, give it a rest. Arguing with you is like playing chess with a pigeon. It'll just knock over all the pieces, **** on the board, and strut about like it's won anyway.
Well, when you come to the park with a $10,000 chess set, and there's no one in the park to impress except us pigeons, and you challenge a pigeon to a game, what exactly do you expect? I guess it stings to lose a game of wit to a pigeon.

why would anyone ever buy this thing? it's a tiny screen for your iphone that looks so stupid on peoples' wrists. it's reminiscent to the zack morris brick cellphone from back in the day.

i mean, maybe if you could do anything useful with it that didn't require your iphone attached to it i would kind of see the point? maybe?

when i see people wearing those absurd gadgets they all look like people begging to tell anyone they can find how much they love apple, but they don't realize that absolutely no one cares. i honestly feel sorry for them.

Based on your posting history you clearly have no interest in adult conversations. I'll end this "discussion" on your note and move on. If you were mature you would spare us all by doing the same.

Happy Holidays!

It's amazing how much people can keep their envy inside before bursting at the 'proper' time, funny actually

Many reasons have been given. Maybe you missed them. Mine are listed in message 50, and include apple pay, quick dispatch of brief texts, unmissable calls and texts, and control of the audiobook and music player.

It's big enough to read short texts, tell time, and control the audio player. And it doesn't look stupid to me, but taste is personal. A *big* screen on one's wrist would look stupid to me...

it's reminiscent to the zack morris brick cellphone from back in the day.

When there is an analogous alternative to the admittedly overweight Apple Watch, people will not buy today's Apple watch. But right now there isn't, and the Apple Watch -- as is -- serves many useful purposes for me.

i mean, maybe if you could do anything useful with it that didn't require your iphone attached to it i would kind of see the point?

Well, you can tell time without the iPhone. But I am rarely without my iPhone nearby, so this doesn't bother me at all. I much appreciate not having to fumble in my pocket for everything.

Some people see what they want to see to rationalize their own decisions. I like the Apple watch even when no one is around to see me use it. And I've listed specific functions I appreciate that do not require validation from others to be real. But I admit that I did enjoy impressing cashiers when I first used the watch for Apple pay -- wow, that's cool was a typical response. Sadly, it's common enough that they've mostly seen it by now.

The Apple Watch classifies as a "Thing." Regardless, its wearable technology and its a great device for fitness and convenience. No one here stated its the "Future." But don't deny it's not a wanted gift for the holidays or in general for that matter.

It's not really a great device for fitness or convenience when you consider the price. Sure it does what your iphone does, and does what a fitbit can do, but what else can it do? For the current price I won't touch it.

And about the future comment, Timmy aka Captain dongle head said it was "revolutionary" and would change the way we live. I think it's a ok device though, maybe on day I'll get it if I haven't left the Apple eco-system.

Hopefully Tim just retires with all his dongle bonuses and someone like Craig federighi takes over.
