I find these ads AWFUL...they also dont reflect real life....its too cold to play football on the video (never seen something like this and you can get Hypothermia - there is a guy with shorts lol), Apple Watch is not that fast to check activities and they forgot to mention you have to bring the phone if you want internet connectivity.....iPhone 7 ads are also TERRIBLE (with terrible music too) in my opinion.
Here, in the north of Russia, I used to play football for 5 years in winter time (from -10 C up to -28 C) while I was studying at university. It was obligatory. And it was OK and we had a lot of fun.

Macrumors and all other internet websites are full of paid freelance trolls.
It's almost impossible to try to have a constructive criticism or a discussion in here anymore.
The professional trolls have taken over. The internet marketing and influence war is the new cold war. From politics to brand competition, this is the way you try to destroy the other guy. By shouting out pre-recorded bs over and over again, until there is a sheep herd singing along the same bs post after post, day after day, week after week,… Until almost everyone just spits the same blind bs even before some product comes out of the factory.

Now, just wait for the next troll comes along and replies to this comment with the same pre-recorded bs. "Ahaha, an Apple fan boy calling sheep herd to the next guy. The irony. The irony."
3…2…1…

bye Macrumors

You need to visit 9to5mac where people seem to congregate to blindly praise Apple. Sounds like more your type of site.

the Apple watch is cool just wish battery life was longer
Nah, I'd be happy to give up battery life for a thinner watch. I charge mine daily, and it's nearly always over 50% at night.

In fact, the battery was a bigger frustration for me with my previous watch, which had more than a year's battery life. It meant a periodic trip to the jeweler, usually a week or two after I noticed it wasn't keeping time anymore, and then hoping the jeweler didn't give me a dud that would die in 6 months (which happened).

Wow! Actually the most nonsensical Metaphor I've every read on the internet. Well done. Slow hand clap.

Thanks for noticing. It was nonsense, and entirely apt in its nonsensical context.

There was a time when companies PLACED ads. Where does the new ridiculous lingo of "sharing ads" come from?
Agree. When I see the words "Apple shares", I always think it's gonna be about their stock price.

Apple Watches are not going to become a thing, Apple. Stop trying to make Apple Watches a thing.

Stop trying to make people believe you know s h y t
[doublepost=1481474426][/doublepost]These 'commercials' are stupid. In a vain attempt to be clever, they completely miss the mark. Where is Shirley Polykoff or Mary Wells Lawrence or Fax Cone or David Ogilvy or Bill Bernbach? Music doesn't save the day every time.

What's the use in liking anything about Apple Watches when most people cannot even get one (a Series 2)! Apple promises availability in early October, then pushes availability dates back 11 times since announcement. Now availability has been pushed back [again] to after January.

So much for ads trying to get people to purchase for Christmas presents... they don't have any Stainless FOR PURCHASE in time for Christmas... or New Years for that matter.

Apple's "Reality Distortion Field" rears it's ugly head once again. Shame on you, Apple!

The 'reality distortion' part isn't the lack of availabily, it's the part that made you think you actually wanted an Apple watch in the first place.

Don't get one. Then you can save yourself not only the annoyance of waiting for the watch to become avaialbe, but also the annoyance of realizing, once you have it, that you spent $500 on this nonsense.

I was tempted to get one, but believe the coolness will wear off. I may just get a fitbit charge that displays text and calls which would be enough for me.

When there is an analogous alternative to the admittedly overweight Apple Watch, people will not buy today's Apple watch. But right now there isn't, and the Apple Watch -- as is -- serves many useful purposes for me.
There are plenty out there that are 4 times better, and look great too. The only problem is that they don't have an Apple logo on them, so iFanboys won't get them.

It's strange how Apple people look at other smart watches (which do a ton more) and think, man those are stupid. They might be stupid, but the Apple ones are even worse. People are so blinded by the Apple logo that they just buy them anyway and convince themselves they made the right decision.

First one must be a Northern city to have snow, although the chances of them keeping the watch and not be stabbed would be pretty slim
Yeah, I must admit it's tricky living up north and wearing an apple watch, I literally get stabbed EVERY time I leave the house to walk the whippet. I've taken to hiding it under my flat cap so no one can see it.

News for you: it's illegal to report false numbers in a public company.

More news: just because you don't see Apple Watches in the wild, what do you say to the people who do? Are we hallucinating? Year one, I was the only person I knew who had an Apple Watch. Very much like the first iPhone. Year 2, I'm seeing them on wrists everywhere which happens to coincide with the sales reports.
The iPhone only really took off with iPhone 3GS. Until then, it was panned by many who are of course now eating their words and deleting their blog posts.

At last report the Apple Watch was 5% of the wearables market and sales had dropped 70% year on year. That really isn't a big thing.

It doesn't matter if its illegal to report false numbers, Cook didn't give any numbers, Apple has never given any numbers for the watch.

Honestly, you should get out and meet more people.

P.S. After owning one since the launch and wearing it every day for the past year and a half, I couldn't live without my Apple Watch. I leave my iPhone 6 Plus in my pocket and keep track of information on my wrist. I use it to control my home, I use it to make payments, I use it to make appointments and stick to my schedule, I use it to get Siri to remind me of things when I leave home or arrive at the office or pass by the grocery store. It inspires me to stay active and get fit.
Hello, I'm Pedro. You've now met someone who loves their Apple Watch. There are many more of us.

There were people who loved their Newton..

I'm still trying to figure out how to get news headlines, heart rate and the weather on my Seiko Velatura kinetic.

This may shocking to you but this is also why Apple exists.
Yeah, because all the other corporations are in it for fun.

Well, the Apple logo means it works with the iphone I already have. So, sure, that influences my decision.

Maybe there's an alternative watch-phone combo that will do the things I love about my Apple watch, like Apple Pay and so on, but I haven't seen one that is more visually appealing to me, let alone one that compares to an Apple Watch the way a modern phone compares to a Zack Morris phone, which represents far more than a factor of 4.

Could you give an example of a watch you think looks great and is 4 times better, and explain where the factor of 4 comes from?

There were people who loved their Newton..

And those people were proven right! Behold, the iPhone.

The Newton was ahead of its time and had to be taken on a path from a new beginning to gain acceptance, to gain

Despite some remaining kinks, Apple Watch works really well for what it's intended and it's anticipating a future where our computers move from our pockets to our wrists like they did from our briefcases to our pockets.

What is needed is a new paradigm to do what touch did to overcome the complexity of a cursor and keyboard UI which couldn't be reliably be ported to a small screen. It's becoming clear that voice and AI is that new paradigm. With voice, the size of the device becomes irrelevant.

Right. Measured just before the widely anticipated announcement of a new watch. Sales on these things is cyclical. Comparing the sales just after a release to those just before kinda skews things.

Thank you. I was just about to say the same. The iPod was the wildest success in Apple history at the time, completely obliterating any idea of competition, yet this is what its sales looked like:

If you were to measure iPod sales at its peak after the introduction of a new iPod and then measured it a couple of months before an expected announcement of a new iPod, you'd think that sales are tanking and that Apple is Doomed™.

Apple Watch is about to have its best quarter ever. This is year 2 and I've already been seeing many of them out in the wild from non-early tech adopters. Give it one more release to really hit the mainstream. By Apple Watch 5, your grandma is going to be wearing one.

Not sure why people are content with a vague guess of their heart rate, how's that useful? If that's important to you get something that's accurate.

That's where we're different. I'm not sure why anyone would want better than 5 or 10% accuracy, which is basically what a paramedic gets with a 10s count.

And the apple watch is much better than that if this report is valid: https://9to5mac.com/2015/05/08/apple-watch-heart-rate-monitor-accuracy/

Not that I ever check my heart rate, but if I were to, I'd be happy with 10%.

I am sure it would be a great gift if you had ordered it a few weeks ago. Right now these things are way too hard to find to be a Christmas gift.

I see them pretty often out in public, myself. But granted, I live in the DC metro area and commute often. I think that's one of the "use cases" where the Apple watch makes sense. It's great if you're trying to catch a commuter train and perhaps have to switch to a metrorail light rail system or a bus after that to get where you're going. In those situations, you often have your phone in a pocket and may have your hands full with tickets, a laptop bag or what-not -- yet you need to be alerted to upcoming appointments and estimated time to leave, in order to get there on time. Pulling your iPhone out and unlocking it just to check those things isn't too convenient.

I really don't get why they're "ugly" either. With all the band options and multiple color choices, people really should be able to put together a combination they find attractive? But like everything -- that's subjective.

All that said.... I agree that no amount of marketing is going to make these things a "must have" that everyone you see starts wearing. I mean, not unless they start selling for about $20 or come free with every iPhone upgrade. They're just a "nice to have" accessory for an iPhone, at the end of the day. People who were going to spend money on a fitness tracker/band anyway can probably justify buying one, as can people who are on the go a lot. (I like being able to respond to text messages while I'm in the car by just tapping a response from the watch's menu, like "Sure!" or "Not right now..." Otherwise, I wouldn't really be able to answer any of them at all until I'm done driving. Not going to text and drive in any tradition fashion!)

Agreed. I honestly forget that they exist. It's when I walk into an Apple Store when I think to myself: "Oh yeah, I forgot they make these." Never see them out in the wild. And they just look ugly (imo).

There were people who loved their Newton..

They also had 90%+ of the profits... As usual...
Cook disputed those numbers btw and that was in the quarter before the release of the new product (16 months after the initial product release).
The devices the Apple watch is compared with are like $50 bucks and have 1/10 the function, that's like saying the Lexus competes with the cheapest Kia.
The Iphone has about 15% of the global marketplace and the Mac has been under 10% for ages.
What part of the profits does Apple have... 80-95%!

Commercials for products that aren't available for purchase. Awesome.

Why don't they have commercials for airpods too?
I also thought the same thing...too funny because it's just like Apple. Full of stupid people

I visited an Apple store just to see if one is in stock. Everyone around the watch table said, this is typical of Apple. Make limited quantities so they can build this imaginary hype.

Right, can't imagine the Series 2 sales are going to make much of a dent in that but we'll see.

Right, not sure how that equates to it being the next big thing though. On Cook and the numbers this was the same guy who thought that tablets would be outselling PCs by 2015. I'll wait to see the numbers ... oh wait we won't see them will we...?!

Really? Are they a "thing" were you live? Here in Australia, I have only EVER seen one person wearing one, and that was an employee at an Apple store. They are nothing but an overpriced, ugly, useless piece of junk.
[doublepost=1481505729][/doublepost]
I've honestly never met anyone that truly loved their Apple watch...

You've met someone that owns an Apple watch?! Wow, I'm still waiting for the day.

Great, you said its already a big thing, now you seem to be saying we should give it time?

Nobody said it was a "big thing". It's a thing. The person I was replying to said that "Apple should stop trying to make Apple Watch a thing" and I said that it already was. It's on the same trajectory as the iPod and iPhone were before they became mainstream. Neither of those started as massive hits. Both the iPod and the iPhone became mainstream in their 3rd generations.

Yes. Really. I was the only one I knew who had the first generation but over time I progressively started seeing them more and more. Now I see them everywhere.

They may be useless and ugly to you but plenty of people love their Apple Watches. I take great utility out of mine. Now that I've grown used to what it does for me, I wouldn't go a day without wearing it.
