My iPhone 11 128 GB really takes the best selfies so far(& it’s stage lighting, Animoji options), compared to my my Note 9 or Mate 20 Pro....I never take solo motion videos...

I am more than satisfied with its overall camera capabilities, the display was awe full initially but my eyes got trained enough to ignore the difference between QHD AMOLED against 820 P LCD. With Dual SIM 4 GB RAM, WiFi6, IP 68, Wireless charger, A13 (my Note 9 Wireless charger works like a magic)

I really feel value for money and I am convinced that this is the maximum I can pay for any top class mobile($850).

What is your evidence more money would change the outcome of the MacBook or that Slofies took any dollars away from other initiatives? What credibility do you have to call this a bad decision?
Not sure what you're responding to, because I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other regarding whether they should have spent their Slofie R&D budget on something else. I simply stated that someone sets the budgets there, and it *is* a valid argument that if they choose to prioritize spending more money on the R&D of the iPhone Slofie feature, that it may mean spending less on R&D for something else.

Apple’s results confirm their strategy is working, Slofies and all.
This is another poor, but often repeated, argument. Just because Apple is currently very successful, it does not mean that every decision they make must therefore be beyond critique. They were making lots of money, even while sticking with their Butterfly keyboard decision, yet they changed course on that.

Well Apple has been sucking for the last couple of years, so sorry people aren’t all cheery about a slowfi!

Today I cursed Tim cook’s name again, I wanted to show a family video but couldn’t because I didn’t have a dongle! Thank god someone had a laptop with HDMI to save the day.

So I could care less about slowfi, Tim can shove it along with his dongles.
I hear you. I’ve been all-Apple for years but I’m eyeing a Lenovo to replace my ageing MacBook.

In the end, you just have your own personal opinion on the importance of features and the state of current products.

Apple’s results confirm their strategy is working, Slofies and all.

It gets so old for armchair CEOs to sit there and say more money spent on your favorite product would somehow change it. Maybe you just don’t like Apple anymore. Other people do.
You don’t have to be an armchair CEO to know that Apple laptops suck in the ports department. You just need to look around.

Critique all you want, but post evidence. Their strategy working is evidence their strategy works. When you serve a billion people, there will always be dissenters.

And butterfly keyboards are an example of overreaction of a vocal minority, which is why they stuck with them so long and still sell them.

Changing course on technology is just the nature of the business.

Worst marketing term ever.

i don’t know ... “blow-away” seems pretty much up there and is STILL used (MAC Pro announcement on stage).

difference of opinion.

my concern since before this feature is ... how do I properly and effectively disable slow motion on my iPhone 8 since iOS 11 when I purposely did NOT enable it yet it ruined so many once in a lifetime events like my cities 1ST NBA Championship celebration night?!

It’s sort of sad what this company’s marketing thinks it needs to do to keep the iPhone “relevant.”

what’s sad is:

you, me and many more mature users “just don’t get it”!

Apple knows exactly what features the majority or their iPhone purchasers want and love - youth and features just like this.

to my mind only 1 major blunder of a feature Apple has offered in an iPhone that was somewhat recinded andsince barely mentioned in their support articles: Wi-Fi Assitance!

I like all of them pretty well, but the first is the best, imo.

I tried this feature once, just to see what it was like, but it’s not really my thing. But I can definitely see how it could be fun for others.

Right on, brother! At my niece’s wedding was a photo booth. I absolutely denied taking photos together with her. Felt so good to reject her. I watched a parade of narcissists taking photos of themselves! So much cringe! No one needs to take photos or videos of themselves! Absolutely no fun on my phone, that’s for sure!
So your niece was getting married, and wanted to take a picture with you, which you took great pleasure in denying?

I’m not sure that proves what you think it does.

Sure, Apple has plenty of money and could choose to spend more on R&D for other areas (MacBooks, etc.) while *also* spending R&D money on things like this. But, generally speaking, companies allocate resources based on the priorities that upper management sets, and they sometimes make bad decisions.
Which products do you think are suffering from a lack of R&D spending?

I love how other members like to chastise Apple, yet they have the most strategic marketing in the smart phone industry that really demos what the iPhone camera is capable of.

I truthfully believe that others just can’t stand Apple being so successful year after year, amongst all the negativity, Apple always comes out on top.

Again, there seems to be a misunderstanding about my post, as I was not suggesting that I personally thought that any particular area was suffering from a lack of R&D spending. But since you asked...

I haven't really thought much about it, but if you want me to give you a couple of my opinions on areas for improvement...

1) I would say that the iOS UI is not one-handed-friendly enough. Moving up in size on the phones has made that much worse than what it once was. I think they could benefit from really rethinking the UI there, and also recommitting to offering a smaller (but not cheapened) iPhone.

2) I think they should offer a combined iPad / MacBook, similar to the Microsoft Surface Book concept, but where the detachable touchscreen would switch to running iPadOS when detached, and would serve as just a dumb high-res display for OSX when attached to the keyboard.

3) I never liked the square Apple Watch. The round-faced Google Watch is a better aesthetic. I don't need the screen to convey maximum information. It's a secondary device, and more of a fashion statement. The square display still makes it look like a 1980's Casio calculator watch. And they need to loosen up their control of the watch faces and let 3rd party developers produce custom watch faces.

Right you didn’t make a comment re: a specific area, just in general:

“it *is* a valid argument that if they choose to prioritize spending more money on the R&D of the iPhone Slofie feature, that it may mean spending less on R&D for something else”

That’s why I asked which products you thought might be suffering from a lack of R&D. Personally I think there’s plenty of R&D money 🤷‍♂️

1) Unless you restrict the area of the screen that can display touch targets, I don’t see how you can get away from the fact that the size of iPhones that customers want are basically two-handed devices. Maybe Reachability could somehow be improved? re: a 4” display, the market has spoken; few want them.

2) If Apple decides to transition MacOS to its Ax ARM chips, Apple could do DeX right, and those who want USB-C on their iPhone might finally get what they want. iPad Pro could do this now, 99.999% chance it’s already running in the lab, with iPad or AirPlay for display.

3) square is a design choice, and I disagree Watch is more of a fashion statement. No third party faces is a business decision, subject to change.

Ugh. The ads are (slightly) funny, but the fact that this is actually a selling point says a lot about where Apple is at. Also says a lot about why I used to be a rabid Apple fan and frequent the forum nonstop whereas now it's almost the opposite.

Ode to the Haters

Apple releases a 16" pro-class MBP with keyboard that everyone was clamoring for.

The haters kept hating.

Apple releases a powerhouse pro-class workstation Mac Pro that everyone was clamoring for.

The haters kept hating.

Apple releases Slofie ads.

Surprise Surprise...

The haters kept hating.

Let's put some context though.

New Keyboard:
Apple released new laptops with garbage keyboard years ago, denied for years there was an issue, COUNTLESS people had to deal with Apple Service and pay to have their keyboards fixed (which was bloody expensive!). THEN, Apple acknowledges that there is an issue, rereleases the keyboard but with the icondom to fix the issue but still gives people free repairs as still people have faulty keyboards!

Then Apple releases a new keyboard ditching the faulty design but all other laptops they sell still have the keyboard of death.. yet haters should be happy because one laptop in their lineup finally ditched the faulty design.... sigh

Mac Pro:
How long was the update? Come on... it was insane! It's not like the last trash can Mac Pro was a marvel that was standing the test of time.... I completely understand why Pro users felt ignored for YEARS AND YEARS!

So Apple finally changes after almost tech mag, blog, and site bashed them. But people should forget how bad Tim Cook's products were this decade? He has built his reputation, now let him live it!

Was going to say something similar. I have a 17 yo daughter. Neither she nor her friends like all these stupid things from Apple. I ask her whenever things like this come out. She laughs and says nobody she knows would be caught dead using these stupid things. And this is coming from a goofy girl and her goofy friends. They aren’t the “serious” type (except for grades in school)

But the adult cheerleaders in the room just don’t want to hear it. Some, simply because the AAPL stock they hold.
I don’t care one way or the other about slofies. If you want to make one, be my guest. I don’t see myself using this feature, but I’ve taken iPad photos in a pinch, which is something many people here believe shouldn’t be allowed. :)

As far as AAPL goes, I’m up over 86% since my January 2019 investment. I’d like to see a bank give me 86% annual growth plus quarterly dividends.

I don't know where you grew up but since when kids are running around $1000+ devices in their pockets? And is that really the kinda thing you want from Apple? Look at Catalina etc.
Do you really want Apple to spend time and resources on this useless gimmick than something more pressing?
Anyway, you have different view than I do so I guess we won't agree on that :)

These nonsense for you, makes kids very happy...Apple is about everyone, not just for you

I dont want to be negative but man if you try a huawei or a samsung they now feel light years ahead of the iphone any iphone
I just tried out the Note 10+ and Pixel 4 XL for a while before moving to the iPhone 11 Pro Max and I wholeheartedly disagree.

Lots of kids are ruining around with $1,000+ devices. It’s pretty common.

This was the beginning of the end as Apple making serious computers for serious people. This is absolutely disgusting behavior from a CEO and co-founder. This was a so-called visionary.

Instead of chastising UI designer Mike Matas for wasting resources, Jobs shipped it! Sickening that people use computers for fun.

Disgusting behavior? You’re living on a different planet.

In my opinion, taking slow-motion videos of yourself is not conducive for a healthy society with responsible citizens. I take great issue with this ad campaign and this gimmicky feature. It’s cringe beyond anything.
