FAM is not a sci-fi show. It's a Mad Men'esque show with Sci-Fi elements. It's a serious drama, not a genre thriller. You are obviously not the audience for that show. I happen to fall squarely in the audience for that show and love the drama as much as the space hijinks.

You might be right, but as a period drama it's weak compared to Mad Men. I loved Mad Men! FAM is still interesting enough to keep me watching, but barely.

Apple is in great company with the likes of HBO and Disney - if you think once a week is wrong, don't say Apple doesn't "understand streaming." It is you who actually doesn't understand streaming when you stop to think about it.

I much prefer the once a week release format. It helps build hype and helps me actually enjoy the content, unlike the binge garbage that Netflix has promoted.
Well your obnoxious know-it-all attitude aside, it is a pretty common thought to a lot of consumers that one of the great things about streaming is being able to watch a series whenever you want and I mean this has been said by many people. So it isn't unreasonable for someone to express their discontent when a streaming service decides to not do this and instead adopt the legacy television station model -- when it is unnecessary. So if the idea is to annoy a, I'd say, majority of your viewers then yes by all means "It makes sense."

Look I know why Apple is doing it and I'd bet it has more to do with their lack of content than anything else and in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter that much. I do not like this model either so for people like me the actual release date is when they finally all have dropped which is weeks away from their release. I have not seen Mosquito coast yet, I've been waiting for all the episodes to become available, not a huge deal to me lots of other stuff to do but I am not watching it as they come out which means I'm one less number for views. It'll eventually count but not till weeks later and there is a possibility I might just forget it was on.

So anyway, yeah Apple has its reasons to have a weekly release schedule, but having a preference to have it all drop in one go doesn't mean you don't get streaming and it is also an acceptable statement to say that Apple doesn't get streaming when they deny one of the fundamental reasons as to why so many people enjoy streaming.

I think the space developments are amazing launch pads and what if’s to the drama elements in FAM. You get character development and plot points that could never come up in a typical drama, and certainly not in Mad Men. I prefer FAM to Mad Men for that reason - I find the space setting way more interesting than the advertisement industry setting.

These shows are always good for a laugh. Just picture it another way. With the combined forces of the US Navy, Marines, Air Force and Army against the Roman Empire. Heck they flattened the Iraqi army like it was nothing and the tech difference was much closer than an alien invasion would be.

Not that there'd be anyone to fight. They'd flatten any military forces from orbit and receive surrenders from all nations in less than a day.

Of course I take the view that aliens would have no interest in conquering earth anyways. Any automation and artificial intelligence would be way beyond the capabilities of humans. So, slave labor is out as slaves would likely be more expensive to maintain. Resources are out. For such an advanced space fairing civilization. There are far virtually limitless resources in our solar system let alone the galaxy. Our humble planet wouldn't be worth the time.

Really, all we'd have to offer are exotic plants, animals and spices. So, flattening the place or risking us destroying it with nukes wouldn't make much sense. I have a hard time even picturing our planet as a food source. As our proteins would likely be totally incompatible. Plus their tech and available resources all over the universe would make such an expedition extremely inefficient compared to some sort of farming in space.

No, I was referring back to what the original poster wrote with his “know it all” attitude stating that Apple “doesn’t understand streaming.” I adopted his tone to show how off base he was.

The plot centers around an unknown extraterrestrial threat invading the planet, with multiple storylines taking place across different locations around the globe.
So it's just real life then, right, with the whole US Government UFO report from last week?

It's interesting how little anyone wants to talk about it. The military just came out and said "Yeah, we've seen these things every few weeks for the past 20 years. They have multiple characteristics that exceed the theoretical limits from known physics, we're not building them, we're pretty sure they're not built by humans, we know they're real, they seem to be evading us while simultaneously observing... something. Us? Other life? Our planet?"

They don't want to say it's aliens. People say we need extraordinary evidence to say it's aliens. Uh... how much more evidence do we want? If we saw these things on Mars, would we not accept them as evidence of sentient life that isn't human?

I get that, but this trailer also shows the aliens interacting with humans and causing nose bleeds and cities to be destroyed. So, a closer encounter of a kind then where we’re at in our timeline/reality.

Everything you say is true. I’m looking forward to it anyway. And maybe they’ll surprise you.

A couple of favorites on this theme was the 80’s V that had the ridiculous premise that the aliens needed Earth’s water. And then Avatar where an advanced species (Humans) decide to fight giant aliens hand to hand with robots/exoskeleton suits. The premise is that we don’t care about their planet but just want a unique mineral. Ok then, nuke it from orbit to be sure.

Apology then, hard to determine someone's intention through the written word alone. Though I didn't get that vibe from the quoted commenter.

For sure, I like the shows. Well for a while as they usually get too ridiculous. Falling Skies was good for a couple seasons. Until they just started pawning the aliens left and right and I think someone got some magical powers or some such idiocy.

Speaking of V. I liked the newer series and hated that they ended on a huge cliff hanger. I think a watched through the original when the new one came out. It's been so long. I can't really remember.

I never watched Falling Skies. I might have if I’d known that it had such a Boston/Massachusetts theme (according to Wikipedia anyway). I think the reason I didn’t watch it was exactly because it sounded ridiculous and I probably didn’t have TNT anyway.
