The advertisement symbolizes the feeling of euphoria you get as you just tune out and jam to your favorite music after a stressful day. The HomePod is an experience and it is amazing. In love with mine.
Could you not argue though that that is what music does. I’m just saying the ad didn’t make me think that a HomePod was required for this. In fact, if I wasn’t an Apple nerd I’d probably be left wondering “other than being a speaker that can play my music, what even was that? Seems pointless. I’m going to listen to my music”

I smell new-old bugs in mac/iOS:

So that's where Gerhard Richter got his inspiration from.

First, I was thinking, gee, where I live everyone on the misery train is listening to, playing with, or otherwise enjoying their smart phones. Where are these losers? Then I noticed that this ad for something I don't need or want is going to be 4 whole minutes long and I was done with it.

The adverts is missing her neighbours banging on the walls and ceiling shouting at her to keep the noise down, or maybe now they could tell Siri to turn the volume down themselves?

Also, to make it more realistic, Siri should have replied “don’t understand ‘playme sumethin yulelike’ “

The middle bit was amazing, truly unique and beautiful and well worth the money and Jonze is a God. However, they should have gotten rid of the bit with the HomePod and sadness. Seriously it's a niche product hardly anyone is interested in but is getting the kind of air time that a new MacBook or Mac Pro should be getting?

I don't get why they are pushing it so hard because Siri is hateful, it's expensive and if you bought a bluetooth speaker in the last 5 years or are vaguely interested in music you already have one.

I'm at the point with voice assistants where I ACTIVELY AVOID them AT ALL COSTS! I don't just not like them, I don't buy anything with a voice assistant and prefer to never use or disable them. Cortana anyone?

I liked it as a thing, but as others said, didn’t really compel me to get a HomePod. Or even fully understand what a HomePod is/does

They're selling the enveloping music experience, and you can't get that kind of experience normally from a small speaker that size anywhere.
So, they've done their jobs if anyone thinks such a small speaker can give you that kind of experience.

Best commercials are aspirational and are about selling an emotion rather than a list of spec.

Specs need to be processed, need more attention and they've got more blocking them from being understood and accepted as worth while (you normally can't do it during the commercial, you need to do more research first, it's just one more datapoint).

Emotions bypass this, they're selling how it will make you feel. That's personal but someone can immediatly understand it and apply it into their lives.

So the Homepod is for clinically depressed people that want to feel like they live in a dreamy home (alone), by buying an unnecessary piece of equipment?

Nice visuals and sound though..

All I see is people loving the advertisement; not going "Wow, I need the product". If the point of an advertisement is to sell a product judging by the replies so far it's failed.

Or maybe the people here are not the public for this kind of thing. There is another world beyond tech sites.
Jadded techheads and spec jockeys are the anti-thesis of the public for this kind of publicity.

Speakers are never necessary, they're not food, so your comment is pointless.

A lot of people after a long day need a break and music provides this kind of escape. That's litterally what if provides and why people listen to it.

Wow. This is so insightful. I missed the conversation with her doctor about how she's clinically depressed. I'll need to watch it again ;)

I guess this is par for the the course nowadays; no one can have a bad day without being "clinically depressed".

Wait a minute you NEED an Apple Music subscription? You can't just play local music from your computer or iPhone? (is it cumbersome to do so??)

Siri on the HomePod is very good. I never have any issues.

I didn't really care for the ad that much but I know I am not the target market for the ad. However, my daughters (both in their early 20s) would probably like it a lot.

If you are not Apple Music subscriber, the HomePod isn't for you...
