Couldn’t help but think of Interstellar the whole way through
Agreed.

Really? All I got was that if I bought a HomePod I'd be sad and lonely with a digital companion as my only friend

That's EXACTLY what I thought. The video made me feel sad. Apple took her money that she could of spent on a holiday and going out to dinner with friends! She looks very lonely in it. I'm not a fan of Apple's adverts these days.

The advertisement symbolizes the feeling of euphoria you get as you just tune out and jam to your favorite music after a stressful day. The HomePod is an experience and it is amazing. In love with mine.

I thought that, that was the idea of iPod, iPhone & AirPods - music for your travel/journeys!

One of the most memorable Apple ads I've seen in a long time. I still find it relatable even though I have no idea who the dancer is, don't plan on buying an HomePod, and not interested in that style of music.

They should have released the ad when HomePod launched or debuted it during a big TV event such as Sunday’s Oscars.

Or maybe, perhaps, she had a bad day at work and needed a good song to cheer her up?

So much projection going on in this thread.

All I see is people loving the advertisement; not going "Wow, I need the product". If the point of an advertisement is to sell a product judging by the replies so far it's failed.

The best ads are the ones that don’t overtly try to sell you anything.

Job #1: Make people aware of the product. Mission: accomplished. This is the kind of video that will be shared even if it’s “supposed to be an ad”.

Job #2: Associate an emotion with the product. This ad makes you feel good and that gets embedded in your mind, filed right next to “HomePod”. Whenever you see the product again or think of it, it invokes that emotion. For a number of people, that’ll eventually lead to a sale. The best part? You think you made that decision all by yourself, not influenced by an ad.

From the comments I must be in the minority but I found the music and video irritating. Both were jarring to me. The last thing I’d want when I come home from work is to be irritated even more. I’d want something relaxing.

Indeed, the idea is that the HomePod can cheer you up when you’re having a crappy day. Nobody implied that she was lonely or unhappy with her life situation.

Oh you mean that expensive paper weight I purchased while traveling that doesn't work in hotels? ugh
Why would you expect it to work in a hotel? Even if you didn’t know anything about captive portals it literally has “home” in the name.

Also if you were technical enough you could get it working.

Seriously? That's quite a narrative you stirred up. Apple took her money that could have been otherwise spent on a holiday and dinner with friends... Jeeez.

Well, if you equate visuals of her being alone in her apartment and listening to music with thoughts of being sad and lonely generally, with a digital companion as her only friend, that maybe says more about you than the ad. :p

I don't know - she looks quite smartly dressed, has a swanky little apartment, and so can probably afford to go on holiday too.

She didn't look lonely at all - she'd just come home from work, and stuck some music on. how on earth do you get from something fairly innocuous and typical as that, so some narrative about how she's sad and lonely, and somehow been conned out of her holiday fund by Apple is quite something!

I liked it as a thing, but as others said, didn’t really compel me to get a HomePod. Or even fully understand what a HomePod is/does
It is a sad fact that others will never experience what the HomePod brings because of their expectations.

The video is a great example of what you can experience with the HomePod (with less Special FX, of course). All it takes is to say: “Hey Siri, play...” and you’re in music bliss...complete with that thunderous bass in such a small package!

Awesome video indeed!
