Hopefully, we'll have some more insight in the morning. Maybe some friends of anyone who works at the 5th Ave store could provide us with some juicy info? Milk 'em!

I'm assuming you all who are thinking it's nothing but a "How-To" video shoot is just kidding. This is a MAJOR production. And if you read back a few pages or even the link on the front page of MR, you'll see that we've established that the production crew is part of a commercial/music video production group known as Anonymous Content which is apparently working on an Apple spot.

Does this mean it's necessarily pertaining to the 3G iPhone? No. Does this mean it's probably something big that should be exciting nevertheless? Yep.

June 3 rumor

idk id this has already been stated, but isnt apple supposed to have a HUGE back to school sale starting june 3rd, which is like 4 days away. Coincidently its also a tuesday. Now if apple were to shoot a promo video, or do some in store signs, etc, they wouldnt do it on the weekend, friday and saturday are too busy. Sunday/Monday is probably cutting it close. So tonight seems like the most logical night.

Also in terms of what they're shooting, all the guided tours have been inside, with a black background. The only outdoor commericals have been those "real" people talking about the phones.

im hoping its 3g, b/c my used iphone expires on ebay in 8 hours :)

edit: someone asked for it, ebay auction id # 330238645841

Yea, I also doubt it is a "how to" video. In the how to videos I have seen they never needed that kind of equipment. They needed a HD handy cam and a guy to talk in front of a white sheet.

I think we may be pushing it to say it is the 3g iPhone this is being filmed for. However I do believe this is a commercial.... but for what? Who knows. My logic is why would you spend so much money to film something that will be seen once at a conference? So it is a commercial for sure. But for what?

Are there any unique feature within the 5th avenue store? I have never been.

Call Them?

Anyone think about calling them? I did and am "the next call to be answered". I am still waiting but it keep s saying you are the next call to be answered every 30 seconds or so. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure that the handy cam and guy in front of a white sheet fall into Apple's usual production values.

The 3G iPhone is going to be HUGE. If this shoot has something to do with the new iPhone, I have a feeling that Apple is going to pull out all the stops production-wise, don't you?

The iPhone is getting a release on Mars. Loosely affiliated with the RED product promotions. Keep in mind that if you buy one of these, it could break your eardrums. The new martian version is made to be used around the sound deadening sands of the Valles Marineris. Because of this... never EVER use the speakerphone feature on Earth or Venus. It's quite possible you'd kill yourself and any living thing within 1400 miles and those are just the immediate effects.

You know what's really funny? Those guys in the picture appear to be looking at the monitor for the camera. In other words, had the shot been taken from there that couple is walking in the street, we might have some idea of what they were shooting. Oh well.

It's probably just the video where Steve Jobs announces his systematic grand plan to take over the world, starting with putting an iPhone in the hand of every single person within reach of a 3G network and ending with the world being the most user-friendly, efficient, and ergonomically designed place in existence. :apple:

Well you get my point. They don't shut down one of their biggest 24 hour stores for a "how to" video or a video to be shown at a conference. They need this investment to turn into cash!

Yea, I wouldn't doubt this being the 3G iPhone or another new device. I just can't put it together in my head what the commercial will be like. My question is why do they need the store.... hmmm. Time will tell!!!!

I've worked on a few conference videos where the graphics budget alone was in the tens of thousands. And I'm talking things that will definitely never be seen again. Not even on my reel unfortunately.

Yea, but this is costing more than that.

This is project cost + store being shut down. Who knows, 100k could be put into this thing said and done.

I don't see how this could be for an ad thats airs on the 9th, they could not possibly complete post work in a weeks time. It usually takes at least a month for editorial, color, sound, etc.

It would be great if I were wrong.

Like I said... this is for the martian release. According to their calendar, it'll be an August 10th airing of the commercial.

I've been sitting out here across 5th Ave for about 2 hours, and all I've seen them do is water down the sidewalks and practice some crane shots of a fake security guard standing in front of the door. One of the PAs said this would be the last shot, but who knows. They've been turning the big white Apple logo on and off for awhile, too.
Actually, it looks like they are starting to pack up, now.
The crane is compacted and they are turning stuff off, and it looks like the water truck is packing up too. Time to leave, I guess.

there is ANOTHER possibility, this could be a filming for a movie. A movie that will come out next year perhaps, featuring the iphone3. or they could be redecorating the store maybe to match a new color theme that all apple products will incorporate. but i believe the most likely story which is that christmas is right around the corner. thank god iphones fit in stockings

It's store related, stupid!

There is nothing about the iPhone, that needs an Apple Store as a background. But start thinking about it.

Apple stores are getting massively international. AFAIK There are currently several stores in differing countries, that are under construction (e.g. Munich, Rome, Paris).

So why not shoot a commercial about the brilliant shopping experience in an Apple Store. Just because the US of A has them (and you know the concept now), doesn't mean the whole world knows the concept.

I imagine nothing but that. A commercial, stating that Apple stores are the ultimate buying experience.

And Steve will present this ad when giving his WWDC speech. Something like:
"As you know, the Apple stores have had a tremendous success in the USA. <insert graph of shop # and graph of customers # here> We are expanding that to other countries as well. <insert Europe map here with current and under construction Apple stores> The buying experience and service in our stores is unique. We thought, we bring that into an ad. Now et me show you"

- Intro: Apple Store light going on, glowing Apple
- camera walkthrough down the staircase
- shots of different spots with explanations mixed with very happy customers

That's it. End of the story if you ask me.
